I salute you for this, I love the ocean because I grew up on an island, but getting over a genuine fear is a big thing
I didn't realize it till I watched this video. I have never been one to really hold deep emotions towards actors, singers, or other entertainers. I can enjoy what they do and feel they do a great job- but I just did not understand the hype. The mass outpouring for someone you do not really know personally and who would not even know it if you vanished from their fanbase.
Then Robin Williams passed... and it actually hurt. Then Stan Lee passed and one of my biggest dreams went with him- to meet the man who inspired me to draw and want to be a part of the comic book process... As I watch this, Will, I realized I will cry when you are gone. It will mean a large part of my youth will have passed away. Not hearing your voice in music, movies or games anymore will dig deep. Not hearing your inspirational words will send rivers from my eyes- your need to be something bigger and better... it is part of me. Never getting to meet you... I will mourn that.
May all of your endeavors go well, and may you continue to hold that humility, that love for life and people, for the rest of your days. Keep giving others strength! It's one thing you have done in every path you have ever walked! Thank you so much!!

I am In the Navy and when I was up in the Chicago Great lakes Combat Pool for my first swim I felt too much fear to continue when I fell to the ground in a panic. When I came back the only way I past the test was by focusing my thoughts and convince myself and my brain I was safe, Now I serve my Nation on the sea, and will always continue to fight this fear. Hello Will Smith, I had the same fear as you for most of my life. For me, it all started as a young child when I saw the movie Jaws at the neighbors house. Then several years ago, I had a friend ask me to go on a SCUBA diving trip and I said no. The same friend asked me again the following year and I thought to myself if I keep saying no, the invitations will stop. So I decided to go! My first time in the pool with all my gear on was probably the most stressful. I only stayed underwater for maybe 10 seconds and then told my instructor I couldn't breath. Later that same day we did our fist dive in the ocean and I felt like a champion. During the rest of my week, I ended up completing my open water class, advanced open water class, and an air nitrox course! It felt amazing to conquer a fear that I carried with me for so long. I hope you felt the same accomplishment after your dive. Did you end up doing more dives after this? Did you get over your fear? I hope so!

I tried diving at the age of 47 and by 51 I was teaching it. There is nothing more zen then hovering seemingly weightless with the worries of the world above you. FYI, I was born and raised in NYC, I had no time for the ocean either. Now I look for sharks on every dive.

I have a bucket list idea for ya too, if you want. It wasn't on my list either till I got an opportunity to ride in it. But...there's two and the runway they fly from is senic and pleasing. They are ww2 era biplanes with beefed up engines, Doing loop de loops and tricks in a rollercoaster with no tracks...that is some fun.

I like swimming in oceans but- after yoh realize that people have discovered only 5% of the ocean just freaks me out knowing that there is so much more to the ocean then we know
Will, this video meant a lot to me. I went on my first dive at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town South-Africa with big sharks. I was terrified. There was one quote I kept on repeating to myself.
"The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me danger is very real but fear is a choice.”

Will's video is timely for me too, and I am glad you have shared your experience and your mantra of getting over the fear. I have a bucket list, and I am due for some water action next week; I can't stop trembling at the thought of being under water. The more of you and others share their experience, the more I am trying to convince myself I can do this.
@@MaggiesDIY scuba diving has to be one of the most awesome experiences if you get to go to the right place with the right conditions. It can be frightening but getting certified before you jump onto open water will definitely help your fear of equipment failure and having a good briefing about any dangerous animals is the best way to quell any fears of the animals you'll see down there. Communicating honestly will get you through allot of the troubles you might find.
