Hey John, thanks very much for playing! Yeah indie horror games are rarely FPS nowadays. That's actually why I decided to do an FPS for the Dread X Collection. I figured probably nobody else would be doing one, and I wanted to help add to the variety. Also I just came off of doing Dusk so... it's something that's fresh in my mind lol. Since it was done in 7 days there were a lot of things that were designed around making sure development could be as quick as possible. I think in hindsight the backtracking was a bit long and the pacing suffered a little bit, but hey... 7 days :). I think I did the entire backtracking segment the night before the deadline iirc. Also yeah, Doom Eternal is fantastic. The best FPS I've played in years.
I like how you use fun, dare I say "silly," concepts for horror. Makes the non-goofy bits that much more effective, and it's a fuller experience when spooky media doesn't take itself too seriously.
Probably isnt even that funny but I was dying of laughter when the suit in the 2nd game said the oxygen level was at 5% and John, playing as a raiders of the lost arc like explorer with a advanced suit began frantically running face first through the swinging blades and rubbing up against the spike traps before passing them all the while his character screaming in agony
@@TheSolBlader Daw, I'm sorry you found the game horrendous Sol :( Is there something we can do to make it better in the future? Keep in mind, we only had seven days to make all the games, and were trying to go for maximum variety for the package :)
@@tedhentschke1 Personally, I enjoyed the different style of the game. Others may not feel the same but people have different preferences. :) The game wasn't so easy as to clear the game in one go, and the checkpoints were forgiving. Thank you for making Carthanc. I loved watching John play it. ^_^
The Airdorf one ruled. Reminded me a lot of The House Abandon from Stories Untold. Was also really neat to see 3D used in one of his games, made the twist even more unexpected
I love how you highlight the small thing you like about a game, I love how you talk about stuff in general. I sense (maybe it's just my dumbass) you changed something... I don't really know how to explain it, but I live for it. Thank You, John for being here.
Summer Night is definitely the champ of the three. I had a handheld Little Mermaid game just like that. Minus the spooky wraith person at the end. Loved it.
Oh, Fingerbones - such disturbing memories. The Pony Factory was a great game! The story cards, the game mechanics, the design of the setting and ponies - I was constantly flinching when the ponies ran at you! The atmosphere, with the color choices, sounds, and music was really nice. That note you read was Winston reading about his parents, Allison and Michael, I presume. Cathanc looks interesting but it needs to have checkpoints. It shouldn't let you fall off the structures when you're in a chase. It had a really nice Indiana Jones feel - I have to finish watching all the movies, but I watched the first one last week and it was good. The voice-acting is really good. The third was the nostalgic horror that Baldi's Basics does so well. The moon's eye and the witch was really nice. The transition to the 3D world and the monster coming to life was really neat! I have high hopes for all those games if the first three were that good.
More for my own memory than anything else but @39:00 really cracked me up when John stood on his vantage point and told the enemy 'Dude, if I was Wile E Coyote, I would drop an anvil on your head right now.' XD
John: _"Why do you keep sh*tting on my - in my mushroom yard!"_ Me: Manure is the preferred substrate in the commercial cultivation of several varieties of mushrooms.
Awesome, thanks John! I'm interested in hearing your opinions about the rest of the games in the collection, even if you don't play them all the way through on the channel. Maybe an edited stream? It's such an interesting game jam/ challenge and I love what indie horror developers collaborate to create. Hope you and yours are well. See you next time!

I swear, it gets funnier every time you say red means scary. Cause it sounds so stupid, but it's also so true. Edit: Summer Night was definitely the best of the 3, hands down.
It reminds me of how i was playing Silent hill 2 and there was one small room with red light in it and all i could think of "red means scary" Of course it being Silent hill the red room was the safest of them all. Still felt spooky as hell so I left as soon as i could
Contemplating how to quit my job and change career paths- John and coffee are still the best stress-relievers I've found. Couldn't have come at a better time, man. Thanks!
Pony factory was a pretty fun concept. It almost reminds me of those early creepypastas where the twist is that they're describing a game like Xorax or Cosmic Destroyer, except this one tried to be like a dark backstory for my little pony with a person trying to make people into anthropomorphic ponies except it goes wrong. I just felt like it got a bit repetitive for a bit too long. The second game had an interesting concept and did nothing with it and forced an annoying combat mechanic with unbalanced enemies and poorly designed platforming. I love platformers but that just looked like a hot mess. It looked fun at times but by the end I just wanted it to be over. I loved the third game I would really love to see more of it. The little twist at the end was really clever
I honestly look forward to hearing you say “red means scary guys!”. Lame as that sounds 😂 it’s comforting humor. Also, I’m not cut out for FPS either.
