The "spooky painting" in Rhome is a real painting called "Woman Of The Rain" by Svetlana Taurus and its supposedly really haunted. Look it up and it has that kinda spooky vibe.
Probably, but from my own perspective it looks like a creepy one eyed alien or something. Which would be creepy if not for the fact the top part looks like a cowboy hat, so any of the horror of it is taken away.

The game was wonderful. However I personally felt weird about the plot. Why exactly the woman was tortured this way in her afterlife? She was a hardworking and successful member of society in a loving marriage. Overall, a nice lady. She asked all the right questions and acted appropriately in the situation. Is it because she was a little snobbish and enjoyed kitchy art? Well, that's a dumb reason And why John was so negative towards her? He seemed bitter and it felt strange overall

And the parents had just moved to America, so they weren't familiar with the film series or that Chucky wasn't actually child-friendly. 😅

Hello John! I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning of my freshman year of Highschool and today I graduated! Thanks for sticking with me and helping me through some long nights! Here’s to many more years
It's always very impressive when someone speaks a language online that isn't their first language, but, damn, it's never intimidating when they try to be scary when they have such accented English. Am I the only one who thinks that? You can tell that they're not confident in their English so the lines typically aren't delivered that confidently + they probably have never done any acting or voice acting. Again, it takes a lot of bravery to speak a non-native language in front of native speakers, let alone on the internet. Never give up, if you want to speak the language, I mean. Most people won't make fun of you and are just impressed that you're doing it at all.
Yeah something about broken English in a horror game takes away from the experience, but that's something for us Americans (who only need to/care about speaking English) to get over. In most other countries, It's extremely common to be fluent in more than one language.
@@brittnyevans6232 oh for sure. I spent my entire high school career learning Spanish, but lack of confidence in myself and the fear of getting made fun of (anxiety) made me never use it. I graduated in 2010 and my Spanish ability is literally just gone now
@@anthonyconde7604 honestly, you're definitely right. Like I said, the lack of confidence in the delivery of the lines is definitely what takes it from scary to cheesey. Native English speakers can have the same things happen if they're just not confident as well, though, something I've noticed from native speakers is OVER confidence in the line delivery and then it gets extremely cheesey.
@@EdwardoLover i'm not a native spanish speaker, my mom spoke to me in spanish but obviously it didn't stick and instead i picked up english faster, i took spanish 1 and 2 in college and a good amount of words stuck but i still get nervous talking to our spanish speaking customers at work, i'm a cashier and the many times i've studdered over my spanish numbers makes me very self-concious because i feel like they're judging me or mocking me for stumbling so i feel you
Also sitting down here in the comments waiting for John to give the following games a try. - Ginkgo - Missing Children (Chilla's Art) - Bendy and the Dark Revival IJoey Drew Studios Inc.) - The Supper - No one lives under the lighthouse - Alisa (Casper Croes) - Spring Cleaning What other cool recent horror games can you think off the top of your heads that you hope John will eventually play?
Rhome was really cool visually speaking and the voice acting was pretty decent as well but i feel like the "you died and youre in limbo" gimmick is outplayed. not to mention the ending came very quick and felt a little rushed but the fact that its a free game with presumably custom assets and cool gameplay elements more than makes up for it. kinda reminds me of anatomy/control/NaissanceE/haunting of hill house. dont know if anyone else got those vibes
Rhome is the best adaptation of Jacob's Ladder and Juken Jigoku's visual filters are a big shout out to the visual filters of 80s-90s Japanese Horror movies. It's plot of having to find keys is a reference to the Japanese cultural taboo of the number 4, because the number kanji for the number 4 shares the same kanji for death. The Japanese write around that taboo by using the katakana for 4 instead and the Japanese education system is quite hard and conformity is key in the student dynamics. You stick out like a sore thumb and you'll be shunned by your peers. P.S: the High School asset model is present as the main hub in Yandere Simulator.
It's not the kanji of the number four that's the same as that of 'death' but the sound. 'four' and 'death' are read as "shi" in japanese; they're homophones. There is another reading for the number four - "yon" - and that's what they usually use to get around, you know, saying the number without confusing it with death
"Really tired today. I should go to sleep in 'My' Room" *Protag arrives in bedroom to sleep only to find 900,000 other horror game protags and half the House Party cast also in 'their' bedroom* "Your" Room, Riiiiight, good joke protag.
I love how in the alternate universes of these games their professors always have A) made the exams, B) have them made well in advance, and C) decided to leave their answer keys just in the unlocked school buildings.
HQ Knocking. John welcome back What a treat. I love it when he does 3 random horror games. Thank You. Awesome to see that the stream reached that amazing goal.
Best Friend: If a bad indie horror game isn't a key hunt simulator, odds are it's a survive the night against an unthreatening enemy. Whoopidty doop. Rhome: Oh man, that was such a cool game! I actually want to go through that one myself to get a look at the visuals first-hand. The voice actress did a great job too, though I think some of her lines could have been cut to help the experience. Pretty minor nitpick nonetheless, I loved this one! Juken Jigoku: It's funny because I could kind of get why leaving doors open would trigger the teachers realizing someone got into the school at night, but just leaving one open? What a silly condition either way. That's probably the only reason I'll remember this game. Congrats on smashing your charity goal! Big thumbs up to everyone who helped out, whether via watching or monetarily!
Not only should you have your mother make some foods you used to enjoy, you should get the recipe from her lol Nothing more nostalgic then a parents cooking
If I was a millionaire, I'd build a house JUST like HQ Residential, then casually infiltrate John's social circle, invite him one day for dinner, and watch him despair as he comes in.
The first game would be significantly improved if it had background music in the form of the track "Pretend Best Friend" by Terrorvision on an endless loop...
Wow that second game was really freaking cool especially for free, gotta give respect for a game that pulls through with a relatively unlikable protagonist and causes you to empathize through the environment more then the actual dialogue, I really enjoyed the part where her husbands art was looming over her as a visual metaphor of her guilt and regret after death. Thanks john for showing off a story I probably never would of experienced otherwise.
1. HQ Residential is the closest thing John has to an archenemy by now! 2. Rhome was a game I would have happily payed for. The architecture student in me LOVED the house design, even if it's ridiculously large for two people. The whole wall gimmick and those scale puzzles were fun ideas as well. Hell, even Hailey's dialogue was way better than the usual stuff we get!
This is gonna sound weird but I'm watching the 2nd game right now and I'm weirdly relating to it?? Idk how to describe it but I sometimes have nightmares of my house where the layout and everything is the exact same, but stuff is kinda rearranged and it's extremely unsettling? And sometimes when I'm in those rooms of my house I start imagining them as they were in my dream and I get so creeped out because its my house but.. not my house? I dont know how to describe it but I feel like the main character lol.
I liked the video before I watch it (as I always do with John) He isn't the biggest or the most financially dominant TH-camr...but he is just the most normal. I fell like when his videos are on it's just one of my mates playing the game and not some big time TH-camr. Being honest with the fact I struggle so much with anxiety and what comes with it...these videos help me so much. Thanks John your videos really do mean a lot
I honestly loved Rhome so much! It was so well done, from the environments to the visuals to the voice acting... I don't know, something about it intrigues me a lot!

It's so sad that devs can't seem to come up with something better than: 1. children and their toys are scary, 2. The twist is you're actually dead or 3. zombies. A serious lack of imagination going on on the indie horror front, at least story-wise.

@@brittnyevans6232 oh for sure. I spent my entire high school career learning Spanish, but lack of confidence in myself and the fear of getting made fun of (anxiety) made me never use it. I graduated in 2010 and my Spanish ability is literally just gone now
@Schnitzel lmaoooo that's fuckin' funny dude😂😂
@@EdwardoLover i'm not a native spanish speaker, my mom spoke to me in spanish but obviously it didn't stick and instead i picked up english faster, i took spanish 1 and 2 in college and a good amount of words stuck but i still get nervous talking to our spanish speaking customers at work, i'm a cashier and the many times i've studdered over my spanish numbers makes me very self-concious because i feel like they're judging me or mocking me for stumbling so i feel you
Hey John, can you give me your twitch password so I can stream on your channel tonight?
*the return of GUYS*
AHHHH! GET BACK BEAST! go back to the hellfire!!
Hey Guys, It's Kirk!
Schnitzel was he holding out on us?!?!
An architect's version of hell: Her own creation being turned into a nightmarish maze
John' version of hell: HQ Residential
Also sitting down here in the comments waiting for John to give the following games a try.
- Ginkgo
- Missing Children (Chilla's Art)
- Bendy and the Dark Revival IJoey Drew Studios Inc.)
- The Supper
- No one lives under the lighthouse
- Alisa (Casper Croes)
- Spring Cleaning
What other cool recent horror games can you think off the top of your heads that you hope John will eventually play?
Super marius 55
Routine by corpsepile- the same guy who made the open house!
When you think you'll go to sleep early, but then John drops three random horror games
Your name almost had me for a second.
I feel like Rhome might've been hard for you to play so soon, but I'm glad to see you got through it. Beautiful game, too.
I think Rhome is both “roam” and r-home “our home”. Cool game!
56:06 Weird coincidence but Rhome was making me think about Kraven Manor with its sections of the manor that you can move around in a puzzle.
Yes! I remember the movable scale model being a key element of Kraven Manor's early hype.
Chiizu right, my understanding is the hiragana symbol for 4 is acceptable, it’s how you pronounce it
@@chiizuholic
Oh. Thanks for correcting my mistakes. Chizu-san. It's been so long since I practiced and applied my Japanese Studies knowledge.
Pleeeeaaaasse never stop making videos, you're so awesome and funny!
Speaking of Visage, it is about time they made another story.
Yeah
They're aiming for the full release to be some time around Summer 2020, so we don't have to wait much longer, i guess.
Couldn't make it to the charity stream, but I'm super happy the goal was met!
"Really tired today. I should go to sleep in 'My' Room"
*Protag arrives in bedroom to sleep only to find 900,000 other horror game protags and half the House Party cast also in 'their' bedroom*
"Your" Room, Riiiiight, good joke protag.
I love how in the alternate universes of these games their professors always have A) made the exams, B) have them made well in advance, and C) decided to leave their answer keys just in the unlocked school buildings.
HQ Knocking. John welcome back
What a treat.
Not only should you have your mother make some foods you used to enjoy, you should get the recipe from her lol
Nothing more nostalgic then a parents cooking
Imagine any Horror Game character getting arrested for leaving any doors open by the Police in such universes
already watched this live but i’m watching again because the stream was so much fun! thanks for being such a good person john
Omg John is here to cure my quarantine boredom! ☺️
Shout out to the House Party house lol
If I was a millionaire, I'd build a house JUST like HQ Residential, then casually infiltrate John's social circle, invite him one day for dinner, and watch him despair as he comes in.
David the doll seems as terrifying as the kid named David from the books “no David no!”
The voice acting in Rhome was really good. It messed with me in some spots. Hearing her scream really pulled at the heart strings.
So happy to see a new one of these from you John! Made my day!
“Just cause it’s not good doesn’t mean it’s not art!”
Truer words never spoken sir, truer words never spoken 😂🤣
Thanks John. Love watching these vids after work!
The first game would be significantly improved if it had background music in the form of the track "Pretend Best Friend" by Terrorvision on an endless loop...
In the second game John really gave me an "eat the rich" vibe. Just me?
eat the rich? what does that even mean
Fuck yeah, HQ Residential House has returned! My favorite reoccurring John character next to Guys.
I played Rhome a few months ago and I really enjoyed it. Glad you did too John!
"the ball's huge... the ball's gigantic" please john
Rhome is literally the plot to beetlejuice. The dining room even looks like Delia's
Lol that jump scare got me. I nearly through my phone .
The first one around minute 9? Because same. I actually cussed out loud...I’m glad my mom wasn’t around 😂😂
Yes it was lol
Lol same I wasn't paying attention then when i turn to see what was going on i got the jump scare
ok glad I’m not the only one lol
Me too .I was laying in bed & watching .It appear & i didn't even.notice that i am covering my eye with pillow .That scared Me XD
“This isn’t real, right? Walls don’t just appear in a house.” Well, maybe your husband just got back from Walmart. I’m removing myself now.
Nothing better than starting with good 'ol HQ Residential house.
I love how you can tell when John is genuinely impressed with a game
i remember this reminds me of that puppet from goosebumps
yes!!!!! Ty
Slappy.
Are you going to do Rusty Lake: Samsara?
This is gonna sound weird but I'm watching the 2nd game right now and I'm weirdly relating to it?? Idk how to describe it but I sometimes have nightmares of my house where the layout and everything is the exact same, but stuff is kinda rearranged and it's extremely unsettling? And sometimes when I'm in those rooms of my house I start imagining them as they were in my dream and I get so creeped out because its my house but.. not my house? I dont know how to describe it but I feel like the main character lol.
I liked the video before I watch it (as I always do with John)
He isn't the biggest or the most financially dominant TH-camr...but he is just the most normal. I fell like when his videos are on it's just one of my mates playing the game and not some big time TH-camr.
Being honest with the fact I struggle so much with anxiety and what comes with it...these videos help me so much. Thanks John your videos really do mean a lot
It's almost like John got haunted in his own house.
Completely new level of immersion.
I'm so happy your fundraiser exceeded the goal (again!) for another worthy cause!
I honestly loved Rhome so much! It was so well done, from the environments to the visuals to the voice acting... I don't know, something about it intrigues me a lot!
Rhome was one of the more beautiful games I've seen! There's so much detail put into the architecture
I just realized that John's beard is growing back fast @_@
David, Is Broken!? Thank you for doing this charity stream, John! the Ultimate YT! EDIT: john, Sinks above the counter are called "Vessel" sinks - They are really cool looking and I have seen and installed them in all types of material, like wood, granite, ceramic - not the cheapest sink you could buy lol
HQ Residential House is the Rattata of horror maps, man.
Would've loved to have seen the stream.
28:54 Did John jut make a Calvin and Hobbes reference?
john’s excitement at seeing hq residential house >>>>
I love how absolutely shocked you sound, "There's a ball, an apple, and a DONUT?!"
It's so sad that devs can't seem to come up with something better than: 1. children and their toys are scary, 2. The twist is you're actually dead or 3. zombies.
A serious lack of imagination going on on the indie horror front, at least story-wise.
The first few jump scares got me 😂 and I’m a sucker for horror 😂
Me going to sleep at 12 am... John uploading a new video... My brain :ah shit here we go again
The voice acting in Rhome is so good and realistic 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
