I have hunted Cape buffalo in the Zambezi valley, about 28 km east of Kanyemba in Mozambique. I hunted in August when the conditions were fantastic.
It was a successful and uneventful hunt - no wounded animals. I took my animals with. .375 H&H.

Insane, those Buffalo are seriously dangerous. And calling the bears into close range and going after the hippo, YIKES!!!! Only crazier would be using a bow. Anything goes wrong the possibility of dying is high but it's what makes it exciting

I did talk to a guy who runs a safari in that meet in some of that money goes to the Village of wherever those animals are at so the meat doesn't go to waste
Actually a lot areas are suffering from elephant overpopulation. In that case they eat other species food away, wich can cause the ecosystem to collapse that other animals and humans rely on to survive. Its all about balance. But I understand the frustration, hunting is needed though, it finances parks and reserves, prevents people from poaching by feeding villages in the area. I Could go on, the list for hunting arguments is long, but there are also many negative aspects about the hunting industry and hunting itself, dont get me wrong. Being hunted is no fun to say the least, but its everyday life of almost every animal on this planet. Humans created weapons that can sometimes end animals life quickly and almost painless, I would prefer that more than a pack of predators, if I would be an elephant.

Is that a 458WM/Lott double? Just curious, why not a 450/400 or 470? Either of those would certainly be more plentiful than a 458.

Actually Hippo are one of the most dangerous animals in the world hipos have killed 500 humans per year and elephants killed 600 humans per year

Yes. Most of the meat is given to locals, with some prepared for the hunter at the lodge. They aren't wasted the way trophy hunting of the past could sometimes be.

Why use sticks to shoot at the very close bear, surely just adds to inaccuracy if the shooter is hindered by the stick, less than 30 yards, shoot off hand.

I've done lots of dangerous things throughout my life and I don't know why anyone that does dangerous things..... tries to make it safe. Why don't you just stay home and live your life in safety and leave the dangerous stuff to people that enjoy the thrill. When I die I don't want anyone saying " he was always safe" .

Just as with everything else. To manage the population. Take the excess. Hunting fees pay pay for ALL the wildlife management. And fund most of the local communities economy.

Part of the hunter's fees go to the locals to fund schools and buy medicine. The meat also goes to feed to locals and one elephant can feed hundreds of people. Also the elephant population needs to be controlled at times, because sometimes a trouble elephant will destroy crops and eat everything in sight, leaving no food for other animals. Many times a rogue elephant will push over an old tree just to show dominance or to vent frustration. Other times a group will push over every tree in an area just to get a few leaves off each one.

Why not using a scope ? ? I ve got a Sako Deluxe in .375 and those factory Iron Sights are way OFF ! They need re regulating and Zeroing on a range OR fitting new Express iron sights to the barrel like on there Sako s Safari Model which includes an Express sight ! That cost you a good Buffalo and " IF " seen wounded and not found be a Lost and expensive Trophy Fee !
Scopes are not allowed in the most african countrys for elephant hunting. You have to come close before you shot

Why such drama over a non killing shot, misplaced as you called it. It is what it is. It happens even to the best of pros. Well crap, everyone there is at risk of anything happening from any animal and its their job tracking. Quit putting responsibility on the shooter because bad shot. I love how after they shoot one of these magnificent creatures, they always say "what a beautiful animal" and caress it like it were some kind of house pet.
Thinking an animal has to be a house pet to be admired and appreciated is rather odd thinking. These animals will be enjoyed for decades to come and the story of the hunt will be passed on for generations. Your house pet will just be another rotted corpse in the ground.

I will say I’m a hunter and a lot of things could be hot and eaten and do whatever you want to do with it but I don’t think the king elephant should be hunted…..
I understand your sentiment. I lived in South Africa for a time and had friends in Zimbabwe. In order to manage the herds and keep the habitat healthy, periodic culling was necessary as part of wildlife management.

yes you can, highly regulated and very expensive (40K }, pays for the up keep of the reserves in Africa . the African elephant population is growing everywhere ( ~ 5 % p/annum) there are regulated hunts.

Its game managment, take out the oldest bulls that cannot breed so the younger bulls have a chance to increase the population. this method has increased the elephant population and stabilized it . The Indian method of Elephant conservation has failed with an 11 percent yearly loss of population
