I have hunted over 40 year, small game to deer. With that said i don't see any purpose for hunting elephants. Very intelligent animals with a sense and protector to the others in the herd. A usually quiet and gentle giant. Walking up to almost point blank range to put one behind it's ear or in it's forehead seems more like an execution than a hunt. The elephant was aware you were there but had no ill or threatening action to you or your direction. It just was peacefully minding it's own business and clearly did not see you as a threat. And why would he? I guess there are just some things i feel should never be hunted for sport, and elephants are one of them.

@@HaroldBluetooth-uz1zz personally I wouldn't hunt an elephant, I have no interest in cooking one or paying hundreds of thousands to go over seas and shoot one. However as long as the animals are being properly conserved and the money from the tags etc is going towards stuff like that I don't have anything particularly against it although I think it is weird. My point is that intelligence isn't a basis to not hunt.

They’re not hunting elephants. They’re hunting other big game animals like Cape Buffalo, Kudu, Gembok, Etc. They were just prepared to defend themselves against an elephant, which is understandable.

People carry pistols everyday with one in the chamber, but in grizzly country youre walking around without a bullet in the gun. Never understand it. Also the guide shot before the hunter. Not a fan of paying 25-30k to hunt for someone else to shoot it. Like your dad hitting the pinata for you 1st but letting you get the winning swing.

    • @Muskiehunter92
      @Muskiehunter92 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hahah yuupp. We all know that the story being told will be how a monster grizzly charged them and he luckily got off a shot and dropped it 20 yards from them... I have a feeling the guide's initial kill shot while the hunter fumbled with his gun while shitting himself will be left out of the story, lol.
Heck, I have a feeling most of the people that pay tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands to hunt dangerous game don't really care who the fatal shot was done by, they just want to be part of the firing squad to tell their other rich friends about the hippo or elephant that "charged" them and how they killed it just in time.
With that said, I have seen "some" videos of real hunters that I know are ethical that have had a charging hippo and had to put it down. Their reaction was not happiness and applause, but instead sadness that the situation arose where they had to kill a charging hippo. So much of this nonsense isn't even hunting in my opinion. A western bowhunter going after a bull elk 10 miles deep is a thousand times more impressive... or a bowhunter that is capable of getting within 20 yards of a big wild buck, drawing their bow and making a good shot... THAT is impressive.... because I have done it and I know how freaking hard it can be especially if you are hunting large wilderness and not food plot patterned deer with names. Even close range rifle hunting in the brush for deer takes skill... I'm not crazy about the guys that kill Elk and deer from 4-5-600 yards either... They are often just sittin on a ridge with their gun sticks, sometimes even freaking chairs, talking away with each other with a damn BBQ going and they spot an elk 600 yards away and wack it... Sure you need to know your rifle, but that can be done with a few days at the range and a ballistics chart for your load. Give a newbie a rifle in 7mag or one of the new fancy PRC's and then hand another newbie a compound bow and see who can put a good group together at 600 yards with the rifle or 60 yards with the bow... It will take the guy with the bow a few years to get truly capable out to 60 yards... I guess I just like to see actual skill and some real effort put towards hunting. If you are going to call yourself a hunter at least. Otherwise its just harvesting IMO... which is fine. I have nothing against people harvesting wild healthy meat... I just like to call it what it is, lol.
Thats my rant for the day, Lol...

Actually a lot areas are suffering from elephant overpopulation. In that case they eat other species food away, wich can cause the ecosystem to collapse that other animals and humans rely on to survive. Its all about balance. But I understand the frustration, hunting is needed though, it finances parks and reserves, prevents people from poaching by feeding villages in the area. I Could go on, the list for hunting arguments is long, but there are also many negative aspects about the hunting industry and hunting itself, dont get me wrong. Being hunted is no fun to say the least, but its everyday life of almost every animal on this planet. Humans created weapons that can sometimes end animals life quickly and almost painless, I would prefer that more than a pack of predators, if I would be an elephant.

Part of the hunter's fees go to the locals to fund schools and buy medicine. The meat also goes to feed to locals and one elephant can feed hundreds of people. Also the elephant population needs to be controlled at times, because sometimes a trouble elephant will destroy crops and eat everything in sight, leaving no food for other animals. Many times a rogue elephant will push over an old tree just to show dominance or to vent frustration. Other times a group will push over every tree in an area just to get a few leaves off each one.

If you were a hunter you would know guides are REQUIRED for most of these hunts. The term “Trophy Hunter” is very misleading! It refers to a list of animals that have a trophy fee attached to the species. Those species are the “trophy” animals. But if you’re paying $100k for a hunt, wouldn’t you want the biggest and best you could find? No different than paying a flat fee for a steak at the grocery store. You will pick the biggest and best looking one. There are very few circumstances where you can hunt on your own. Unless you have months to scout IF you find a place to hunt without a guide I hope you have DEEP POCKETS! “Trophy” fees apply and are assessed AFTER you have your”trophy” on the ground! Lion fees alone can reach around $30k! The guides assess the animals PROIR to you pulling the trigger on something you can’t afford! So if you ever decide to punch holes in flesh, hire a guide and save yourself a LOT of hassle and headaches! 👍 Keep them in the 10 ring!

On a ranch in SE Arizona we grew everything.
I was and am accustomed to waking with trophy s or mounts throughout my home.
I've known many big game hunter's worldwide.
Killing a magnificent creature such as this bull elephant I would not do unless it was harming or it needed to provide me or a hungry group of villagers with needed food.People that go out hunters and kill the big five just to get their picture taken have the wrong idea and too much money.
There is a time and place man to have his protein and place food on the table for his family going out with a video camera on a guy that comes is not the way to do it there needs to there needs to be a reason for this.

Hunting big Grizzlies or any other Bear other than Black Bear looks to me from my living room watching videos more dangerous than Cape Buffalo. They are beasts of prey that hone stalking skills to survive. They seem to move faster and have a clawed reach that you're probably less likely to be able to dodge if they get to you in a charge. I don't know if they're more likely to charge than a wounded Cape Buffalo but I'll bet they're more likely before you wound them.
The Cape Buffalo seems to take a lot of shots even some well placed ones but I wouldn't know if that's a riskier trade off or not. Think about this when you take your shot at a big bear of anykind . . . If they surprise you in stalking and nobody shoots them when they're on you they've been known to take their time eating their prey alive.
Anybody that's hunted both feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't hunt one, but I can see why.

    • @siegfriedhorner4436

Have to agree with you. I'm not opposed to hunting for food or killing for self-defense. I acknowledge that there is sometimes great risk involved in hunting dangerous game. But hunters intentionally put themselves at that risk. I've hunted for the "sport" of it. But my attitude has changed. I can't call what is a blood-sport, a sport, which is just for the fun and adventure of it. Or for a trophy.
Nevertheless, in defense, or for a real need for food, I would kill any animal ; including a rogue animal, or to feed a starving population.
In essence, I am not against hunting. I just find it difficult to rationalize, short of an extreme need.
I still have my small arsenal.
Btw, I don't agree that the hippo is an "under-rated" dangerous game.

But man, I did NOT like watching that Big Ol Elephant get chopped down. It just feels Different IMO.

But I do know that I don't think I'll ever support the Hunting Elephants.
I fully understand they can be extremely dangerous and that they DO kill humans every year, but to me they are just such a peaceful and intelligent species and they've always had an almost Mythical or Magical aura about them..... and I just don't like seeing an Elephant Killed for a Trophy.
