    Maybe after you guys tear through The Feast of Hemlock Vale you can do an updated video on this to talk about how the most recent sets have improved or rank?

    I’ve played all the campaigns and their return to’s and I totally get where you are coming from, but perhaps you should of taken in consideration the first time you’ve played each campaign. There is not one campaign I played that I wasn’t super excited to play through. Sure, at the end of the day, we end up having our favorites, but isn’t every campaign worth playing. I’m just trying to put myself in the feet of newer players, this review gives the impression that certain campaigns are super underwhelming, I don’t think it’s the case. To be clear, I agree with a lot of your different opinions on the campaigns, but I would have made it clear from the top that your ratings make sense only if you’ve played everything many many times, as you guys have. For exemple, someone who has just played the core set and then jumps into Dunwich, will most probably have a blast and be blown away on how much fun it is, probably as you all did when you first played it.

      Same feelings here. I'm thinking about buying into this game now that the legacy collections are releasing, but quickly got the feeling that half of them are "not good".
      Does this mean you love the game, but don't? ;)

    • @PlayingBoardGames

      Our thoughts are that if you can't be critical of something you love (and we do love the hell out of Arkham), you're not really giving it the true respect it deserves. Even with what I said about Dunwich in this video, I still love setting up those scenarios and playing Arkham, but I can see the faults in Dunwich at the same time.

    • @RolandIronfist13

      I think it's an odd takeaway considering how they say even their least fave they have played a dozen times, and they did say they loved their first playthrough.

  • @markusschmidt9260

    I agree, that if Constance is the last VIP to morph, and you don't have the time to kill her, you have to burn down the house. But other than her, and we normally had one leftover at most in our recent playthroughs, we are normally fine to just come back to the estate. This will give you the trauma one scenario later, and two extra XP at that point on top. The "run away" option we never choose. It gives you just a little jumpstart at the next scenario and no trauma, but also no doubt or conviction check. But it also should be the most boring option from the thematic and narrative perspective in my opinion.

    • @JannPoo
      @JannPoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, Constance is really the only one you don't want to see again, Ishimaru Haruko is another one, but not really that problematic, Everyone else is just a very minor annoyance. I do think that the doubt path in the final scenario is really the worst one and there's really no reason to ever choose to take the Clasp of Black Onyx, but the neutral path is sometimes a better choice than the conviction one.
      What baffles me more, however, is that they all mentioned this problem in regards of Carcosa, but none mentioned it in regards of TCU which in my opinion is far more guilty of that. Choosing to befriend the Lodge is absolutely the worst of the two paths from a purely mechanical standpoint. There's literally no reason to do it unless you want to end the campaign early. And the worst part is that... story-wise is the most interesting one. So you either make the wrong decision and get a varied interesting storyline, or make the right one and you get the vanilla version.
      Choosing to Accept your fate at the start of scenario 1 is also generally a lot better than refusing it.

I like the explore mechanic, and I've not even played the return to yet, so surely it can only get better from here. And this campaign actually makes Rita a very good investigator, so that just makes it even better.

    It's interesting how people can get such different opinions of scenarios than one another. I find The Dream-Eaters to have 5 scenarios I don't like playing, and sadly, they're the last 5 (well last 4 and sometimes last 5) whereas everyone seems to really enjoy the scenarios for it here. I love all the scenarios in Innsmouth Conspiracy where it seems to have the most low points for you all here.
    Follow up, where would Night of Zealot be for this? I know it's not a full campaign, but it does have a return to box, so it must be a campaign?

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Night of the Zealot would be my #7 if we included it. Only one of the three scenarios I enjoy playing, and it's the campaign I would want to play the least out of all the campaigns.

    Excellent, thanks guys. I think the first time you play any campaign it has so many wow moments (like losing the Essex County Express after two turns with that book with us, oops). I just played dream eaters for the first time and I narratively I really didn’t like it. Managing two sets of decks and bouncing back and forth wasn’t fun. And some of the encounter cards were my least favorite of all time. Plus some of scenarios were just way too long… that being said now Im playing just one half by itself and I’m enjoying it a lot more. The idea of getting 7 scenarios worth of Xp in 3 scenarios is great for trying out new decks too. Personally I think this one will probably benefit more than any other campaign from a return to. Here’s hoping. Either way I agree it’s currently my least favorite ( I havnt played innsmouth yet)

      I didn't play TDE, but I just can't form an idea on it, because of how all over the place the reactions are on this one. At least in the case of TFA people either love it or hate it, that's something I can understand, but TDE has basically all the possible ranges.

    For me: (1) TFA is best. Mind-blowingly good. (2) TCU - equally amazing, but the length of scenarios makes me like it a little less (3) Innsmouth - so, so good. Tons of fun. I just hate the XP spending mechanic. (4) Carcosa - it's good but the 'are you crazy' aspect is a little annoying in terms of not giving you a cohesive story, but still good (5) Dunwich - it's fun but dated and a little too linear, with some very meh scenarios included (6) Dream Eaters - least favorite by a mile. The two decks are a pain, but the biggest crime is the story. The ending you're most likely to get doesn't even make sense. Are they insane or are they rescued? Are they rescued but still insane? Not clear at all. A campaign ending in an unclear 3-liner is a disaster. Combine that with having two different underdeveloped villains and the story is just a disaster. What is the motivation of our main bad guy? No clue. And to make the other one seem so irrelevant.. it's just so unfortunate. Some of the scenarios are really good, but I can't forgive terrible story. Add to that the pain of two decks and it's the only one we don't actually want to replay.

    I didnt like Dream Eaters at all . First, there was not a single outstanding scenario, a lot of pretty normal stuff. The scenario design never gave you the feeling for the story. The story just got the base idea but then it just was enough to keep the scenarios a bit together. You were in the dreamland and it always felt so small (not like in EOTE for example). But the worst was, that you build two investigator just to play 4 scenarios each. I like to play them a lot and see how they level up and so on. Its the only campaign i dont want to play again (soon).

    Undimensioned and Unseen is by FAR the worst scenario in the whole game.
    Its not only long and random, but the better you do in the previous scenario, the worst it will be for you here. AND it basically does NOT matter if you do this scenario or not. At worst you start the next with 5 doom on the agenda? Youll still have plenty of time to finish it. So basically its a huge waste of time :( Its so bad, that it is probably my main reason I like Dunwhich the least

    • @markusschmidt9260
      @markusschmidt9260 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not completely true. The better you did in the previous scenario, the harder it gets, but also the more XP you can get from it. Sure, it's only XP for two remaining scenarios, so not that valuable. But Dunwich is the most stingy campaign on XP, so you likely still get some value from it.

    • @csbsli81
      @csbsli81 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markusschmidt9260 That is true, but thats also a difference of like 3-4 exp for two hours grind? Not sure if anyone is able to do a full clear of 5 of these. Not to mention if you have 5 to clear, and have 2 in play to begin with, this will probably be your hardest earned 5 experience in the whole game :D So, while you are right with this, Im still sad that most of the incentive to suffer through this scenario is if you want a couple of experience points.
