    You mention that you don't get Ghoul Gang in standalone, but you can have it, if you want. One of the ways to play standalon is to follow the small 'standalone' box they provide for each scenario, but you are allowed (and is how standalone is described in the rules) is that you go through all the resolutions of the previous scenarios and choose the outcome you want. Obviously this is increadibly tedious which is why they provide the box. But for some scenarios where you want to do the cool thing that the set up box doesn't allow, you are free to choose to do whatever you wantgo through all the resolutions of the previous scenarios and choose the outcome you want. So when it says that Randolph is dead, you are completely allowed to choose another resolution so he isn't dead. I'm not sure I can impress on you just how tedious that is though, and almost no one actually does this because of it.

      The Arkham Cards app makes this somewhat manageable. Or just ‘eyeball’ the setup parameters. The most important part is to have a good time.

    Bryn about "Night of the Zealot": "this is probably the only one where there is an ending i would rather die than get". - Oh! For Suuuuure you would also rather die than beg Alexandro for mercy, right?

    Our group has not gotten to the Forgotten Age - how would you recommend I run it (have the expansions). Should I incorporate 'Return to Forgotten Age' when running the base campaign?

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nah, I think I'd just run it base Forgotten Age still. Most of my plays of Forgotten Age recently are without the Return To.

      @@PlayingBoardGames Thanks - maybe I'll work these expansions in after we've played them all in just their base version.

    Mine aligns quite with your rankings, I think particularly Travis'. I would put Dunwich lower, though. What you said about ECC and the Conductor is also true about the Experiment and Hunting Horror. They are just "monsters of the weak", which don't align with a cohesive story. Circle is my second favourite campaign, right behind Carcosa, but I agree from a pure narrative point of view, Forgotten Age is just better. I agree, that Innsmouth is too disjointed hence it's not chronological order. It provides a great scenario intro with "The Pit of Despair", but they allowed upgrading after that scenario, breaking their rule for the following ones, so it seems an arbitrary gimmick, and except for "In Too Deep" (which echoes the second half of the source material very good) most later scenarios are kind of boring from a narrative point. Dream Eaters I like quite a bit story wise, but I don't like the gimmick with two half campaigns. I like to play more scenarios with my characters. It allows for cool stuff, though: my favourite is the Stone Trapdoor. Edge is quite cool, but "Fatal Mirage" really filler material, and the story could be less verbose.

    Carcosa fail text is good on the penultimate mission too. Just asks "You've met with a terrible fate haven't you?"

    Zealot: 5
    Dunwich: 7
    Carcosa 10
    Forgotten Age 8
    Innsmouth 4
    Scarlet Keys: 7
    Hype level for the four I haven’t played
    Circle Undone (7)
    Dream Eaters (7)
    Edge of the Earth (5)
    Hemlock Vale (9)

    Iirc.. The black onyx clasp interacts with a location later.. no, I don’t remember which (so it’ll be one with random locations)… it happened the first time I played it.. but not my RttPtC run..

    Wow Very different rankings here I would probably put my rankings as
    1. Edge of Earth
    2. Forgotten age
    3. Path to carcosa
    4. Innsmouth
    5. Dream eaters
    6. Dunwhich
    7. Circle
    8.Night of the zealot
    Just goes to show how different motifs arkham has and how many different ways you can tell a story!

    I’m sooo excited for scarlet keys! Glob trotting, agencies, action, magical relics that make people into scps and have formed a secret cabal! Is the red clock a scarlet key?!?! B

    My ratings look quite a bit different... then again, I was very disappointed with the dream cycle's storyline. The ending I got just made zero sense to me, to the extent that I posted online to ask about it and they still couldn't explain how to interpret it. And having just 4 scenarios to develop each storyline made them feel so, so rushed.
    1 (top) - The Circle Undone
    2 - The Forgotten Age
    3 - Edge of the Earth
    4 - Carcosa
    5 - Innsmouth Conspiracy
    6 - Dunwich Legacy
    7 - Night of the Zealot
    8 - Dream-Eaters

    Wait, how long did it take for you to realize he was the custodian?

  • @davidja1336
    @davidja1336 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I’m a Travis clone - same order for me. Bryn, if you like Metroid, you really need to try Dark Matter! Speaking of which, Justin, would you put any custom campaigns in your top half? Leaving aside their mechanical aspects, I think both Dark Matter and Cyclopean Foundations are solidly top 5…

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We're starting our Dark Matter playthrough after our Survivor Run finishes!
      That's a great question that I'm not sure the answer of. I view them as different things, which doesn't really make sense, but it's how I am. I like the storyline of all of them though, so they'd rate well if I did rate them!

    Carcosa #1.
