In this furniture makeover, I transform an abandoned torso of a china cabinet into a liquor cabinet... with 3D shutter doors that pop out!
Louver doors with slats that pop out is something that I've wanted to attempt for a long time, but I just never found the perfect piece to try it on... until I ran across this. I found this top half of a china cabinet on the curb. Not only was it entirely solid wood, but it was also in amazing condition, so I knew it had big potential to be transformed into a high quality piece. I decided to turn it into a liquor cabinet, hence the wine bottle silhouettes on the doors.
Going into this project, I knew it wouldn't be easy; the markings and cuts would have to be precise in order for the slats to be spaced evenly across all three doors. It also turns out that cutting and sanding 135 slats with extreme care is quite time consuming (I think I spent 2 whole days just sanding all the edges). The chinoiserie leg design was also one that I had never built before, so that was a new challenge on its own.
In the end, I'm very pleased with the outcome of this project, and with this video I hope to share some of that joy.

I don't know Andy, I'm running out of new words to express my thoughts. This piece is not only beautiful art, but is intelligent design. That's even before you begin the work!!! Completed, it's a one of a kind masterpiece matched only by your previous work. I do hesitate to use the word 'work' because the video displays joyful crafting. You, my friend, are a joy to watch as you create. Thanks.....🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

I am in the exact same position as you. I am in awe of his work, style, production quality, the power of the silent approach and vision. My words don't seem to be enough to describe it. I think we should try though, so here we go: THAT'S BLOODY LOVELY!! Apologies for the vulgarity but sometimes it is needed!!

You say that you're 'pleased with the outcome'? You should be ecstatic! I believe that I've seen all of your vids & they leave me with my mouth hanging open. This one tops them all! The DIY Wife could learn a lot from your legs & skirting -- really. Hand sanding 135 teeny, tiny slats for painting & in between coats -- you get the 'Glutton for Punishment' Award. But honestly, it was worth it. The piece is breathtaking!

I love the way your mind works 10 steps ahead to get the end result that you envisioned at the beginning. Like...all those notches for the slats...and "I'll use nature!" I mean, who thinks that way? YOU, obviously! ;-) And all of the pieces to make both concave AND convex bottles on the fronts. Not only that, but the photography you have to go along with it all. To you it might seem "natural," but to us mere mortals, it's kinda mind blowing actually.

You have given new life to an old piece of furniture that’ll now get at least another 2-3 decades of life it it’s looked after. Modern, you are a total nut with tons of patience. Good to see Pepe guiding you through this. The black on that oak is wonderful, almost like a cerused finish, but cerusing would have been too much. Talk about ELEGANT, you need a very fancy house to put that thing in! The music was a nice touch. Just when I think you can't amaze me anymore, you outdo yourself, THANKS. The bottle thing is a tiny bit trite, at first I thought is was just like a big wave that went all the way across the front of this. But still, WOW!!! Maybe Chest'er has met his match?

OK, first off, how do you only have 57k followers?!? This is some really great work! I will be using the paint mixed with sealer trick myself. One word of caution...keep an eye on that plug you made for the hole in the top. Using green wood is nice, but it will shrink as it dries out and could split. Can't wait for your next video! Keep up the great work! Oh, almost forgot...beautiful editing and camera work too. The beauty shots at the end are fantastic.

I wish you would have shown how did you installed the glass shelving and the lights. 😔
Other than that, it is a stunning piece. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Well its not a redo/up-cycle project with out a few unwanted bugs in the finish and sock mitts for easy application. Super nice project, a pleasure to watch. As always thanks for sharing your wonderful work!! :)

You are a 'True work of art'!! Congrats to you on a fine piece of work and your patience. I am especially impressed that you did the slot cuts so perfectly with just using a table saw (I didn't even know that it's possible). And I also loved the piano music at the end 👏👏👏❤❤❤x100
