Reduced Engine Power and 4 codes on a 2018 Chevy Malibu.

- This Chevy Malibu has the 1.5 Turbo engine. It has the following 4 codes
P0121 Throttle position sensor performance
This code was repaired by changing the throttle body as in the video. Check engine light came back after I posted the video. The codes were
P0236 Turbocharger boost sensor performance
P0299 Engine underboost
P1101 Intake air flow system performance
I asked the owner to remove the front bumper for me in order to diagnose the these codes which could be caused by the turbocharger boost sensor that is located behind the front bumper. He was suppose to do so and call me. They did not want to remove the bumper because it is an aftermarket one and it will never sit correctly after taking it off. I told him I wasn't gonna work on it until he does so. He used my repair direction and hired a parts changer to replace the sensor for him without any diagnosis on the circuit. They were lucky!
These codes also apply to other GM 1.5 Turbo engines like the 2017 Chevy Equinox and so on.
The video also includes a how to replace a throttle body on 1.5L turbo charged Chevy engine.
after doing so you need to do "Intake system learned values reset" and "Throttle body idle air flow compensation reset" - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Did you figure out the problem?
Brake vacuum pump will fix this issue, when you pull out the old one you may have to take the valve cover off and clear remnants if it has broken 😩. That is a mess of a job 😞
When mine had the reduced power, it was the electronic throttle position which is on the gas pedal on a 2018 Malibu. They replaced my pedal, which came with the sensors and its been fine. There's a special warranty for this problem so it needs to be taken to a dealer. They will fix it for free.

They don't always fix it for free. Most pats places know the issue and have the pedal. It's only a couple screws that hold it on

@@tekeylia it's not that expensive for the pedal. Almost most times with even the forums you look at it's the pedal. I could be driving down the road and all of a sudden it says reduce power. I had to pull over, shut the car off and wait 10 seconds then restart to reset it. It has not done it since I changed the pedal

@@Cedricjrlitnow there are many reasons behind this reduced engine power message on the dash. Did you scan the car? Any codes?
@@DallasAutoDiag Codes are PO420 and PO299. I’ve changed the throttle body and the wastegate solenoid check engine light is still on. And is hesitant on driving when stepping on gas says engine power is reduced

@@DallasAutoDiag the problem was with Airflow sensor Plug harness. Cut off under the clothe tape , replaced and fixed . The check engine wnet off . Thank you .

This happened to me while driving home. I was trying to pass a car and out of nowhere it felt like the car was struggling and CEL came on with message. Car stayed at the speed and could still maintain speed but it felt like it needed to work harder. Going to try this today!

I have a Chevy Malibu 2013, the car is running good but I have a engine symbol on the dashboard. Got the diagnostic report from Autozone and the codes are as follows - P059 - Active grille air shutter performance, Active grille air shutter A performance /stuck off / Secondary DTCs : P0013 Exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valve control circuit, P069E : Fuel pump control module requested MIL Illumination, P0AC4 : Hybrid powertrain control module requested MIL Illumination. Just go to autozone and ask them to do a scan on the car. Then when they do tell them to delete the code cuz you just replaced the part.
U shouldn't need one. After I replaced mine, my check engine light went away once I started the car.

Very helpful I have a 2018 Malibu with my check engine light on but they said my battery was completely dead but the car was still cranking up and I was still driving it. Replaced the battery last year don’t understand how the battery was dead but still starting idk 🤷🏽♀️
I had something like that happen to my car but after they changed the battery and cleared any codes it started running like crap and now I’m having acceleration problems.

Is the map sensor in that same location. Mine only threw one code and recommended changing map sensor.

My 2017 malibu does same thing after I drive on freeway it pops up and if I turn off the car for a couple seconds goes away every Damm day so is it worth the shot to change throttle body

I got a problem with my Malibu 2016 when it comes off at autostop the rpms go up and down for a little bit after that I have to press accelerator like 3 times so it can drive I have no check engine or anything wat can be wrong??
Even if you don't have a check engine light on now, you should scan the car and see if there are any pending or history codes and take it from there. If not, then someone with an advanced scanner needs to look at some live data while its acting up.
My car is now doing this but I know what caused it my a/c compressor is bad and my friend ran my A/C for thirty minutes straight while driving my car because they were unaware my compressor was broke what do you think they messed up on my car particularly ? Please help

I have a 2016 chevy malibu 1.5 turbo and over the weekend i experienced 1 code set 3 times it was P0299. Ive looked everywhere for air leaks and such but nothing. What else do you thinknit would be. It was only the 1 code P0299 and i can't figure this out. What do think i should do?

Watch this hopefully you gonna have some understanding. These codes are not easy to diag.
Check vacuum pump if you have a hard brake pedal they go out alot I have a 17 chevy malibu 1.5 turbo that had a bunch of codes that didn't say anything about the vacuum pump but my pump was bad and broke off in the valve cover and took my cam timing off so my car would not start and had reduced engine power

I did it myself watched TH-cam video and got it fixed
I have a 2020 malibu 1.5L had the vaccuum pump fail. Replace pump, opened valve cover to remove shattered pieces replaced gaskets for pump and valve cover. Retimed camshaft as well. Also replaced camshaft position sensor, both vvt solenoids, and the breather hose with the 3 connections. Used home scanner to clear codes
My issue is that car is still getting reduced power mode. And scanner is showing several permanent codes which i understand are called PDTC. All of the codes are related to vaccuum pump failure. Also all the codes are what i had before replaced failed pump.
How do i remove these codes? Do i need to run drive cycles. If so what are the parameters for a drive cycle and how many cycles are needed?
My advice is to find a good technician to diagnose it correctly for you and stop guessing.

Car is fixed…….2800 dollars later. Vehicle was showing codes due to camshaft having a chipped lobe from when the vaccuum pump seized up. While technically fine the missing chip was messing with the position sensor making it throw codes and therefore reduced power mode. I took a job out of state and had to start after my previous comment so i put the car in the shop and got the camshaft replaced.
When i worked on it before and pulled the fuel rail the seals for the injectors were old and brittle and needed to be replaced, dealership couldnt order just the seals so i now also have 4 new injectors, coolant flush and a couple other small things they did that come with these 2 jobs.
So yeah, 100 dollar pump cost me about 3400 dollars. My pump went bad in the worst way possible.
Did you mention how many miles were on the vehicle that would be nice to know

I recently got the engine power reduced message on My 2018 Chevy Malibu . The car kept turning off & it wouldn’t accelerate. I was told that it needed a new turbo . Do you think that’s accurate or would it be the throttle body ?
I don't think a bad turbo would make the car shut off. It would just reduce the engine power. There might be something else.

If it’s not that I’m sure it’s pcv valve which cost thousands at dealer i got the p1101 code sometimes but after I somewhat cleaned the throttle it hasn’t come back but car still drives horrible most of the time I get good days

Maybe you have a bad accelerator pedal position sensor. Maybe.

I'm looking at a 2016 Malibu from the dealership. It has a P0299 code. The dealer stated "Low voltage on the battery caused the code. The battery has been charged, and the code has not come back". Is that a possibility? Or is that just a used car salesman trying to make a sale.. Thank you!
What size of engine? Give me vin.
This code does not trigger because a low voltage. If low voltage then they can let car run to charge battery and then erase the code. Then drive for over 60 miles to make all emmision monitor pass. This code is a part of the turbo charger system. It could be very complicated to diag.
@Dallas Auto Diag I told the dealership I want it inspected at a chevy dealership (they're a locally run place) and if it comes back with no major issues, I'll buy it. But I want that to be checked out by an independent dealership
@@beegekhaos3171 don't do that or take it to a mechanic shop. There are people like me do pre-purchase inspection. Google them and hire them. I usually charge $150 to do a full scan, 360 visual inspection and test drive.

Mine has engine light reduced and the sign that means the roads are slippery. What do i do to fix it
Scan it and see what codes in it
Take it to a dealer. Tell them to change the electronic throttle position, there is a special warranty for this problem. When mine went bad, traction control kept coming on, which is caused by the the other sensor. It's on the gas pedal on a 2018 Malibu.

My engine reduced light comes on on my 2013 Chevy Malibu every time I go at least 2 miles and my engine light is on as well today I drove it and my gas pedal seem very Sluggish like it didn’t wear speed up while on the freeway… the engine light comes of and on at times the auto shop telling me where I got it from saying they change the sensors but also my air bag light is on

It's too complicated to do by yourself. I would advice to find a good tech near you and let him look at it.
I wish you could’ve showed a video before you fixed it on how it sounded before you fixed it I have a 2019 chevy malibu and it sounds like it wants to start but doesn’t turn it went out while I was driving
Your issue sounds different than this video. This car I worked on ran and drove. It just had check engine light

You don't suppose to open a electronic throttle manually like your doing it throws off the calibration and that car has a turbo problem either its crack and boost port or the flap not closing all the way inside the turbo your not going to get a check engine light because you keep in the car below boost go above 60mph that check engine like gone come on

I’m having the reduced engine power problem now and it’s messing with my rpm’s also, idk what the problem is and I don’t have any close mechanics and I’m sure as heck not wanting to pay a crap load of money for it if it’s a simple fix. I hope it’s the same issue from this video because that seemed ratherly easy
I have a 2016 that did the same and it is the accelerator pedal it is not the throttle body. There is a lawsuit and other things on the Malibu about this issue, just Google it and you will see all the people saying it
Once I was contacted by a local guy that saw this video. His vehicle had the accelerator pedal position sensor. It could be other things that trigger the same messge.
Mines did the same last night come to find out I ain’t have oil in my car, got a oil change and it went away
