Thank you for another great video Taryl! I got in a hurry and used an impact driver putting a new handle on my stihl chainsaw, and stripped a couple of the screws. Note to self... Dont rush! That's usually when you screw something up!
Tarly I would suggest to put blue locktight on to the heli coil insert after yo tap the hole into the plastic Also after you use the correct size drill bit info the plastic try coating the tap with bees wax or a wax ring you would use when sitting a toilet on to its drain hole. Coating the tap with wax will give you a cleaner tapped hole. Just alittle FYI coming from a retired journeyman machinist of 40 years. KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING FROM THE GRASS RATS GARAGE. I'm always learning things from your video's!!!!!@@
Very good Taryl, Thank's! I like the video editing with background music, sound effects, part numbers, and circles highlighting the close-ups! It's very helpful!
I did a bit of research on those plastic screws which are used on a lot of covers for chainsaws and single stage snow blowers. Turns out they are self tappers with the pitch designed not to crack the plastic. They do require a pilot hole. I thought you were going to 1) fill the holes “like your gastank repair video” 2) Drill new pilot holes and 3) Reuse the screws. Cost of repair $0 for materials and maybe 15 minutes more time. But as you said, there’s often more than one way to do a repair. I like these quick how tos. Have a good dinner tonight.
Great idea. Would it help to glue or locktite the helicoil into the plastic, so the plastic threads have more of a chance? I wonder how this holds up with all the vibration....
Great vid never thought about using coils. I’ve epoxied that stuff with some success and sometimes not. But you can’t take it back apart without usually breaking it.
At 1:30 I would prod to see how deep to go and then use tape on the bit to know when getting close to not drill too deep. Love your videos, you guys are great!
G'Day,,,Done this also,,But had a few beyond heli coil,,so drilled bigger and glued in nut inserts,,Got to use the right glue otherwise is will fall out after getting hot,
Is there a metal alternative to a Briggs and Stratton 694039 Plastic Camshaft, like an older model part # or something. Do you have a video on freeing up stuck valves? I've been a follower for years and appreciate all you do to guide us along in our small engine nightmares, LOL.
Actually they work just fine, I made a bottoming drill bit by grinding the tip off and use it like a reamer and gently reamed the hole to the proper over size. Also a little bit of JB weld while putting the helicoil in. I let it set for 12 hours. And it fits tight.
We lub ya, Taryl, but I humbly suggest that it would be better to use a special insert designed for plastic instead. Lots of different kinds are available.
Great information! Almost unbearable delivery 🙄 It would have been an excellent video if it weren't for the adolescent costume & behavior. I know a lot of TH-camrs think this kind of crap attracts viewers, keeps things interesting and fun, but it's just distracting and off-putting. If you have good information to pass along, and this WAS good information, just teach it man; you don't need all the hi-jinx crap. Don't mean to be a downer, just trying to give you some feedback.
i miss these repair videos and rebuilds
Your commonsense approach to small engine repair has saved my ass more than once. This simple fix is a great example. I owe you at least one dinner.
That's awesome, I never thought of using them in plastic, but also haven't had the need.
Great tip, Thanks Taryl!
Nice work Taryl. I always look forward to your videos.

Thanks, nice refresher on using Heli Coils, I haven't had to use them for years, still have a set for 5/16ths.

Thanks for the video Taryl. I have also had good luck in some cases with the brass inserts for wood.

Another fine job by the master
Thanks a ton man! Trying to fix stripped out holes in my plastic intake manifold for my throttle body on my car
I’ve never used a heli coil on plastic or even thought about it.
Thanks for the tip

Mr. Genius heals another one!!
Great video
Great job buddy whoever invented the heli coil was a ok dude lol

good one
Great repair info....with many possible applications
nice job !Thanks

bravo taryl
Omg thanks very much I didn't even know of this tool.. wow. Game changer. I eating stake tonight... dinner is served...
great vid super info thank u
Can you demo how to adjust the adjusting screws on a walk behind lawn mower carbitrator with a Briggs and Stratton engine? Thanks
Much, much better than new.
I've been doing this method with the Toro 22298 or 22198 plastic tanks then run a fat zip tie around the tank.
Thanks!
Great tip. I might have to get myself a heli coil kit just to have it on hand.
Nice video
Good job 👍
Awesome
Great job ,fyi I use red thread locker .on both parts her welcome.
Good one Tarly!
Maybe Stihl should have done this with all the "plastic" screw holes. Would that have reduced or eliminated stripped holes? Great video Taryl!
that would be the right way to do it
G'Day,,,Done this also,,But had a few beyond heli coil,,so drilled bigger and glued in nut inserts,,Got to use the right glue otherwise is will fall out after getting hot,

Good Ideas.👍
Thank you!!
How much torque can you put into a helicoil ?
Man U are TO GOOD> Thanks for showing an old dog a new trick! there's your seafood dinner

Taryl the pragmatic mechanic.
ZZ Top had the manic mechanic, Taryl is the pragmatic mechanic
finally....something I can use.....thanks taryl
Nice! 👍
Good to know. Wouldnt of tried that. Like it.
ez-lok makes threaded inserts which might work too
As a guide I want to place tape around the drill bit up from its tip the depth I want to go.
Taryl, where is your shop? I need a wheelhorse transaxle done. New seals, bearings, and bushings. Please let me know
Podunk
That was good!
Wrap the drill bit with tape to see the limit of depth you want to go.
Magic.
I need those
Genius!!
Teryl, the Mars Rover has a broken bolt and NASA needs somebody to go fix it. You in?
Too Funny , it works on plastic screws . Nice !
do you break that tab off the heli coil before installing it? always wondered
No, after you install it
@@TarylFixesAll The tab is needed to insert the Heli coil

Great video taryl the only problem is there to. Short God bless
And there's your dinner, wooooh, stripped plastic hole, heli coil, wooooh
Anyone know the model of the tachometer Tary uses (the elctronic one)? Thanks! Theres ur dinner!
Meanwhile my local shop would say it’s junk,”Throw it away.”
Just did this to my MS361... easy peesey.
You must use a 9.6 mm drill with these M8 x 1.25 inserts.
👍
I never knew that would work..wow..guess i won't be needing any more taryl putty...lol..
Pretty neat.... I always used bigger screws. Not any more.... this method is so much secure...
Great tip. Should hold until it gets run over by a skidder - lol
I would be very careful doing this, it could crack the plastic and boom more problems lol! JB weld would help to permanently set it in.
Oh ya a wensday snack.
Fun fact you can use heli coils in wood too
Or put a plastic Wire tie
I think adding a bit of epoxy to the outside of the coil would have made this a more permanent repair.
Your hilarious
To be fair, the metal threads of the heli-coil will last a long time. Using a bigger screw will last until the next owner has to fix it again.
of course if it were a sears or poulan you wouldnt be watching this video .there's a video called how to make a boat anchor within minutes.
Taryl makes me laugh.
What's for dinner today
Where's Skipper's ?
Slippers ?
@@williamjackson5942 OK that's who I ment
follow me.... THERES YOUR DINNER WOOOOOOOO

Just use a bigger screw, This taint the Space Shuttle! Nasa would use heli-coil to fix it. :-)))))))))
