Hi, I have same car and have a leak in trunk weatherstip trim. When I removed old rubber trim there was some kind of grease, so should I put grease or silicone or just shove new weather stip in?
Hey Adam, do you alway order new roof drip moldings from Lexus or do you reuse them (rubber strips)? Just found same roof body line cracks, appear to be concentrated near the bolt holes at front, mid and rear bolt points for the rack. How do you water test without getting water down in the bolt holes or reinstalling the roof rack? Temp tape maybe with electrical tape? When you water test, are you using any pressure (ie. car wash?) or just whatever comes out of the hose? Thanks so much for your vids, man!
I clean and reuse the rubber moldings on the roof, often there are a few missing, I don’t always replace them. Just clean everything, then get the flowable silicone… orielys has it. When water testing I use the hose, staying away from the rack bolts until the rack is reinstalled and silicone is allowed a day to dry / cure. I apply the silicone and try to rub into the body seam cracks, then reapply over that. I will say, I’ve only had water leak from the rear wider cracks where the qtr panel meets the roof. The front leaks are almost always sunroof drain related. Once I found a cracked sunroof tray leaking, causing me to replace the whole sunroof assembly. Good luck.
I've seen it on all years. Very common on hatchback style vehicles. Seen similar spots on multiple brands, kia, toyota, honda, etc. Just something to be aware of and look out for. As long as its sealed, you'll have no issues.
I knew I made the right decision in buying my GX from you Adam ! Still breaking necks in charlotte
Thanks man! Glad you’re still enjoying it!
I have a 2004 GX. No leaks at all but this sounds like a good idea to check those two runs down the roof rack and maybe seal them proactively! Thanks!

I’d recommend cleaning the area under each molding. Only the rear quarter molding I use a small amount of silicone around the new clips.
