I've owned a 986 for the past five years. I test drove a convertible 996 two months ago. I told myself that unless that (same year) 911 was much better, I wouldn't trade up. Not only was it not much better, I prefer the handling of the Boxster on the two lane mountain roads near me. Yeah, I kept the Boxster and saved having to spend double the money 🤑 as well.
@@papatorr3669 there ya go! I had similar thoughts myself. I own a 986 S. I enjoyed driving my buddy’s 996 C4S, but I wouldn’t pick one unless I needed the rear seats. Then again, my winter car is a BRZ which has equally small rear seats, so I really don’t need the 996.
There was a time the boxter was my fav porsche above the 911. That was when they shared headlights. And it never changed. Since then 911’s can t ‘ake me turn my head. And recent boxters are no headturners eather. Big and fat. Not my thing. Old 911’s or the first boxter. The end.
I drove quite a bit of Porsches and the boxster feels like a forgiving car while a Carrera will not forgive. Balance it's excellent while I wish it had tighter gearing.
I don't care what Clarkson said calling it "the Cockster". First off, it pretty much saved Porsche so no Boxster, no 911. Second, it's not like Porsche hasn't been selling entry level models for a long time anyways. 924? 944? The 968 was a bit pricey but still cheaper than a 911. Plus, it brought us the Cayman. A car that would be a world beater if Porsche didn't protect the 911. I love the 911, but damnit, let the Cayman off it's chain.
Actually, they have let off its chain with the 718 gts, the car is a masterpiece in every way. Probably the best modern Porsche sportscar other than the GT3s.
Loved this video! Although there was a photo shared that had the wrong mention. There is a women’s group called Accelerating Change which was the track photo and it was said to be with Porsche Women’s Global. The next photo is from Porsche Women’s Global. Both are wonderful groups but I wouldn’t want Accelerating Change not to get any credit, they put on absolutely incredible events for women!
I have owned the 986 S, 987 (sports Chrono manua), and 996 4S. My only advice when it comes to buying a used Porsches. Familiarize yourself with former owner if they don't seem like they cared or fell out of love with the car trust me it's going to be nightmare. If they look really sad as you drive away, you got a good lol.
If you're a decent mechanic this car isn't too bad but be prepared for a lot of walking when the transmission goes out or the engine blows up. Proper maintenance is a plus and even for as cheap as they are right now don't buy a 986 without documented maintenance history. Don't go by looks alone. Tiffani has a great smile.

my 986: lim. of 1953, 50Years Spider550, GT Silver, 266HP, man Gear, ... from 2004 and only 50.000km. Schöne Grüße aus Deutschland 👍
The hat adds horizontal aerodynamics.
'ATTA GIRL!! 2001 Boxster S in Seal Gray here... the handling! The brakes! The high RPM howl!
All so VERY ADDICTIVE! Love my 6-speed,.. it such an immense joy to drive, EVERY TIME!
I can't wait to add more Porsches to my collection.
FYI---Pay a little more, Get the "S" with 6-speed! It's just Next Level!
This car is really fun. Don't knock it until you try one.
I have Porsche 986, made in 1997 . The driving feeling is better than in a new one.
I love the Boxster! It was my first Porsche, and I would get one again right now, if I had room for two...
I didn't take anything from this... Engine availability? Issues? specs?
This show is like Magnus just thanos-snapping affordable cars into popularity.
aaaaand the price of Boxsters just went 5 grand up.
Watching this makes me glad I'm a bald headed bloke
My dream car one day is a 911. Seeing this makes me smile as it's demonstrated that a "lesser" Porche is still an awesome car!
I have both (997 and 986). Guess which one spends more time on the road, top down?
@@daffodildeb well if your 997 isn’t a cabriolet, then that’s a given. :P
@@EliasTheHunter What If...they made a GR86 C4S with 300 ponies?
Huh never thought i'd see Rob Zombie on Hagerty.
There was a time the boxter was my fav porsche above the 911. That was when they shared headlights. And it never changed. Since then 911’s can t ‘ake me turn my head. And recent boxters are no headturners eather. Big and fat. Not my thing. Old 911’s or the first boxter. The end.
Cool! I didn't know Rob Zombie and Marisa Tomei did an episode together!
My Porsche is a 986 3.2s , she s fantastique.
Boxster is a very underrated car awsome fun great value for money
my two new heroes, love my 97 boxster tiptronic
The boxster is such a fun car to drive.
I drove quite a bit of Porsches and the boxster feels like a forgiving car while a Carrera will not forgive. Balance it's excellent while I wish it had tighter gearing.

Hagerty: Time to meet your maker
Love my 987 Boxster S.
Is this a video about the Boxster or is it just about the instructor? Wtf
I agree. I can only imagine the uproar if corporate tuned the engine of the cayman to match that of the 911. A Cayman turbo S would dethrone the king.
Actually, they have let off its chain with the 718 gts, the car is a masterpiece in every way. Probably the best modern Porsche sportscar other than the GT3s.
Rob Zombie should have videoed an S model.
It still looks amazing I wonder what the repair costs on it.
Ims and rear oil seals and air oil seperator are not cheap.. and the cam chain tensioners are worse
This guy is nuts.
Had an 01 Boxster base, only lasted 2 years before it spun a rod bearing but it was a fun car though. I now have a 10 987.2 CS pdk.
Literally eating each other’s hair….how romantic
Good one
That's how you get covid.
🤣
Excuse them while they comb their teeth
Fun fact: Its well known that a Boxter will out handle a 911, but Porsche can't embrace that layout because its not their historical DNA.
7:53 Tyler durden in a different context haha
986 was actually my SECOND Porsche ;-)
That hat sticking above the windshield! :)
Great dialog in this episode!
How does hit hat stay on?
Awesome video, I want a boxster!👍🏾
I have an 03 S mint condition 48 K miles. May sell…
Interview style fits this program well. Hope to see more!
Where I live the cheapest boxsters you find are 7k plus it’s ridiculous
I wasn’t aware of any transmission problems with the 986? Could you elaborate?
Had my 986 for 5 years. It’s been perfect.
Once I’ll be able to purchase one, they will most likely fetch like $20k because they WERE the best first Porsche…
They're headed there. More and more S models near that now.
I love how his hat stays on with the top down
I've gone 130mph with the top and windows down very comfortably. Porsche did the aerodynamics right on the 986.
I want a 986 so bad ☹️
if you can find one with the IMS already done and maybe even a hard top? So much value.
The day I listen to his opinions is the day I start driving a Kia electric at Willow Springs.
