    Thank you Frank! I'm 27 and had pigeons for about 7 years and love em. I have had rollers but recently got a few race birds from a local fancier. I was getting discouraged with the idea of racing due to how complicated all the various methods seemed. After watching your videos I've gotta lot more confidence

      I keep it fairly simple without putting in as much time as my competitors. I still have plenty of success. So happy I gave you more confidence. This game is not very difficult.

      I am happy to hear that. Many of the old timers that are retired and play with pigeons all day can make a working fancier with a family feel like there is no chance. I like doing less work and still getting big results.

      I came into racing after 45 years with Rollers. I know exactly what you mean in large part because a lot of people seem to want to make racing complicated. Frank does a good job cutting through all the nonsense.

    I built my first pigeon loft 1 month ago. Two weeks ago, however, I released young pigeons for the first time. It was stunning. I am a beginner so your videos teach me a lot. Good luck in your career!😃

    Hi Frank. Given you don't use the dark or light system, when do you pull the 9th and 10th feathers? I assume you do not loft fly or road train them after pulling their 9th and 10th until those feathers are grown back. Thanks

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do not fly the light or dark system. It is tough to see what pigeons are really good racing them on a system. If you fly natural light you can see the real performers. I do pull the ninth and tenth flight. Usually it is best to cut the tiny tip off the ninth and tenth flight when the bird drops its first flight. Two weeks later pull the ninth flight without putting any pressure on the quill. When the ninth flight is grown in over half way pull the tenth. You be loft flying and settle during this time.

      I start feeding my young birds the same as the old bird short distance feeding system about a week before the first race. I would switch to 50% barley during training and feed once a day until they start to leave barley. They will condition easily.

    Hey Frank I have a question who you think would largely have more success a person that buys good pigeons and send offspring to a one-off race or someone who actively races in a club and sends birds in a one loft race?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most just buy good bloodlines and send the babies to One Loft Races. Many have success doing this. Others compete and test their own pigeons and send them to One Loft Races. When you race from your yard, you can see what pairs breed good racers that do not get lost easily. You can then send those babies to the One Loft Races. Both can work but most just breed for One Loft Races and do not compete in a club. I am lucky to race my own and have success in One Lofts.

      Hello, With young birds they race just fine with mixed sexes. It would be too much work to keep them separated but if you could keep the sexes separated it would not hurt at all. Sorry to hear about the sick babies. Amoxicillan usually will help. You can also try Avian Solution the Oregano product. Happy you are treating them individually. So one question only (this time!). Are you using this program on your own teams or just on the convention birds due to them coming in from many sources? I know that you're almost as pro-natural as I am (my Rollers have not even been vaccinated since 1994, but mixing birds isn't an issue in Rollers and I quarantine pretty strictly if I bring a bird in), so I'm curious as to how much of this program you'd be implementing if the convention birds weren't a factor.

      Hi Kerby, I would be taking my own babies slow and not hurting them in the heat of the summer. If I have a sick youngster of my own I will give it Tony's Treasure Tablets or if the bird has a one eye cold or respiratory I will inject with LA 200. I will put a marker band on the bird and will not treat the bird a second time. I use the Avian Solution a couple days a week with my own young pigeons most years. I will also give the Virkon S if things do not look right. About the same.

      It is a good product just too expensive for me. A bottle of Nubiotic will last forever.

    Mr. McLaughlin You don’t motivate Your Birds? I thought the whole idea of getting any Animal to perform well is to do just that.

      Just the opposite with pigeons. Motivation is a fantasy created by the fancier. The top fanciers in the world are not motivating young birds. My hens dominate flying to the perch. If you motivate young birds you may help one but hurt more than you help.

      Some will raise babies year round but most pigeons will stop breeding in the fall and start again in the spring when the days get longer. Just like the wild birds.

    Actually I love this kind of loft setup, natural colors, nothing symetrical. Those "designer" lofts are boring and many of them look the same (just like the photoshopped pigeon pictures). It is comforting to see some sick birds. Sorry if this sounds awkward. 😆But it really helps to see things like that can happen. We all have them from time to time, but most of the videos hide that and the beginners get discouraged. What do you think about the duration of the loft flying at home? How much training do you get on a session at home? I hear fanciers their youngsters fly for hours. Mine never do that unless they meet another flock, mix with that and then they travel a lot between the two lofts. By themselves, most of the time they won't fly more than 30 minutes. But I think that if they do that with a tight flock, with high speed and some ranging out of sight, they are fine.

      I am happy that you enjoyed and my lofts are not good looking anymore but it does not matter. The birds like the building and are happy inside. Snow white spotless lofts are not needed and the birds are not as comfortable. My birds never fly much from this location and never travel. When I lived in the city and in Oregon the birds would travel. A 30 minute flight is perfect. Most fanciers think birds flying for hours is a good thing but I want them to have energy for the races. Seems like your pigeons are doing the perfect amount of exercise without hurting themselves.
