Best male vocalist of all time. Glad I got to see them in concert back then.
1983 Japan concert 🎶 the best recording of this song live. But this is great also.
Steve’s voice is like liquid gold. He is known as “The Voice” for a reason. Truly a master of his craft and completely untouchable. When you hear his voice, you KNOW it’s him. You should check out Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever! From the Raised on Radio Tour. Such a beautiful melodic song and his high notes are unbelievable. Great reaction ♥️
Steve Perry is the Voice. Check out Mother Father live from Houston.
I'm 46,,I fellowed them in the 80s. I saw them about 23 times,, even seen Steve Perry break wine glasses on stage by hitting that note with that voice,,,,,
Anytime I'm 56 hit the wrong button,,,, thanks for your time,,,, One of the best bands of that time,,,,
So lucky of you!❤❤❤
Wow!! Not surprised tho’
The journey Man legend perry forever The Golden voice The Big one oregenality absolutely amazing man ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jonathan Cain (keyboards) is the romantic soul and Neal Schon (guitar) is the rock soul of the band.
Steve Perry is (was) simply "The Voice" (I think it was Bon Jovi who called him that).
I looked it up:
He has been dubbed "The Voice", a moniker originally coined by fellow singer Jon Bon Jovi. Queen guitarist Brian May said: "Perry is a truly luminous singer, in my opinion-a voice in a million."
Well put!
If you listen to some of videos where they strip out everything but the vocal track, what Perry has in addition to his technically beautiful sound is his phrasing.
The 80's were awesome for rock music !
Aba ST best cousin high Tucker ma WIFA on vacation. I was gone for 2 weeks. All I could do was play Journey over and over. Obey, all right, I'll pay all right. The LIVE version in Houston, Texas journey.I'll be all right. All right question mark the song is called.I'll be all right.Allright, but that's not being all right without you.I aint.Oh, d***, I get it.Let's get there , right
The 80's " RULE " in Music and Movies.
Wheel in the Sky live in Osaka. Great song, vocal gymnastics by Steve!
Journey with Steve Perry was fire!
That voice is so powerful!❤
The song is about cruising down main street back in the day. Nostalgic
After everyone he knew have grown up and moved on with life.
A great song ! Great artist! Great reaction
Neal Schon is one of the most underrated guitarists, he’s amazing. If you wanna hear some more rockin’ Journey, try “Stone in Love”, “Keep On Runnin”, and “Lay it Down”.
Must add Of a Lifetime to your list! 🥰
Yes❣️
@@kathyscoppettuolo7168 Old school Journey, I love it. I also love Spaceman and Nickel & Dime.
Seen him twice, amazing ❤
@@MarcVanLaere-zr5im Yeah, I’m jealous for sure.
Look, Let's admit it, Steve is epic.
Steve Perry is the only reason I became a Journey fan, I had both Album back in the days Escape and Frontier, he's voice was incredible 😮😮😮
He’s practically operatic with that voice. ❤
There's really something special about this song. I used to play it over & over to TRY and sing along with Steve. He's a national treasure.
This is my number one favorite song, ever. You're right, there is something special about this song. I actually like the studio version better, however.
It's such an underrated song. When I go back to my childhood home, I'm quickly reminded of this song
Look for Rick Beato and his video on this song ‘Still they Ride’
FEELING THAT WAY/ANYTIME - Midnight Special
STONE IN LOVE - Live Houston 81
Yes!
Aah the music of my generation rocked it hard and it shows! Steve Perry’ was the “voice” of my generation. Grateful for that and I listen often to them still and always will.
All songs by Journey are definitely awesome!!🔥🔥 Love hearing Steve’s voice and Neal’s guitar!!🎤🎸
Back in the day when there were no mobile phones. Just people enjoying the moment instead of recording it.
My recommendations are "Who Crying Now" and "Send Her My Love". ❤
As a teenager in the early 80's, driving back and forth through town on the weekend. Living the song.
Love the band Love Steve

Journey w/Steve is so special!!
Super solid performers.
I love lots of music. Rock from the end of the 50’s to 80’s, my favorite. Real music, real musicians, real talent. They had to perform live. We all went to concerts!
Now a days….😝😝😝🥱🥱🥱
Steve Perry can sing. I never heard this song live. Thanks for sharing your reactions.
I’d never seen this live performance. Wow.
Steve Perry is the absolute GOAT. Vocal perfection every time.
Live in Tokyo 1983 is by far the best version 😊
This is great, of course, but the studio version of "Still They Ride" is sublime.
Where would someone get a copy of the studio version?
Such an amazing, reminiscent song. The Escape album dominated 1981. Every song is incredible.
This clip is from their Frontiers tour.
My favorite band from childhood check out Winds of March and Wheel in the sky live 81
Winds of March is one of their best. That whole album is Fire
Please listen to "Still They Ride" live from Tokyo 1983. Steve was sick with the flu, but you would never know it listening to this incredible performance. This one is so incredibly pristine🎤🎶🎵
For every 80's mega rock bands, there's always a lead singer/lead guitarist super duo element. They always complement each other perfectly. This has always been the case with Steve Perry and Neal Schon with Journey.
"Separate Ways," but be sure to listen to the full 5:27 version and NOT the Official Video which, surprisingly, is chopped by a full minute.
Steve Perry was interviewed not long ago, & was asked about his extraordinary vocals with Journey, as well as his tracks from his solo album during the 1980's, his reply -
"Yea I know, what on earth was I thinking? I always thrived to perform my best, but those standards made it so hard to keep up with as I aged".
He has no regrets, however he did emphasize on the fact that during that time they travelled so much, & did so many shows, that he was starting to lose his passion for singing.
In his own words he stated "I lost my passion to sing & perform, I just didn't want to do it anymore".
When asked after leaving Journey if he ever caught himself singing solo & alone any of the music? he replied - "No, when I stopped performing, I stopped completely, there is no hidden
Steve Perry solo rendention without accompaniments on my farm, I literally lost my passion to sing."
Imh that was sad, I think bands in general forget that a vocalist their instrument is their vocals, instruments outside that realm can be easily replaced, strings replaced, & retuned, a drum reskinned, a keyboard replaced, but vocals require a well trained singer, to stretch your limits, but also know when to say when, & a vocalist needs more time to fine tune their vocals,
and a part of that is keeping the passion.
When it becomes all about schedules, & making money, travelling, & ultimately losing any real social reactions, alot of lost time in ones life, the money doesn't seem all that appealing.
I played trumpet from age 9 all the way through my college years. Played professionally and was involved in so many groups and performances. I got burnt out and it stopped being fun. I quit playing and didn’t pick up a trumpet for 25 years. Now, at 48, I’m back at it. But it’s almost like starting over again.
Much like what Steve has done now. His voice is very different from where it used to be. But he enjoys singing again.
It's so amazing to be live. Love Steve Perry so much.❤
One of the great singer/guitarist combos in rock history. Schon has the guitar singing also.
One of my favorites ..
This video is from Journey's documentary called 'Frontiers And Beyond'!! It's very good. It shows about life on the road, not only for the band. But for their road crew as well!!
I believe this was recorded in Philadelphia (yep, mentioned twice in the song) and originally aired over the radio during the King Biscuit Flour Hour. I remember the intro as I had recorded this onto a cassette.
The King Biscuit Flour Hour, haven't heard that referenced in a looong time!
King Biscuit Flour Hour!?! My brain is reeling...why do I know this?? Wow you really took me way back there for the first time since then. Thanks for the memory jolt!❤
@@gerib4234 yeah, it was just a few years ago.
I grew up in an extremely rural part of WA State so live music was hard to come by. During the summer, we spent our weekend at our lake cabin in the mountains. If atmospheric conditions were just right, I could pull in the KBFH show on Saturday night. I about lost my mind when the Journey show came on. Great memories.
Patiently live is amazing, along with Winds of March.
Here is a few fantastic songs “Faithfully”When you love a woman “Wheel in the sky” Foolish heart”the last song in the 80’s Steve did was a good bye to the band & fan’s it is beautiful “ Why can’t this night go on forever”
We've got Faithfully up on the channel! ;)
You will absolutely love the guitar solo rifts from Neal, not to mention Steve's amazing vocals in "When You Love A Woman" and "Lights". Love your reactions!
That voice.
Just one of those songs that I'm so in love with!!! However, I love the studio version as well!!
Classic Journey 4ever!
If you haven't yet, please react to 'Why Can't This Night Go On Forever'!!!!
Yes! My favorite.
@@gayledowden5630 ........ It's always been one of my favorite songs, just like Mother Father.
Some of the unknow songs are my favorites...lol...
@@reneeheknowsmyname6771 Steve can sing the phone book, anything. But "" c
@reneeheknowsmyname6771 I hate it when it replies b4 I'm finished!
But on "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever," everyone has one of those nights. And then there's the end notes. It really shows his range. "Mother, Father" does the same, but in my opinion it comes in second.
TH-cam deleted my reply.
I heard this song is about the roadies and the hard work they did for the band.
Amazing song
Thanks Sam, Phil, Mary, and Sam's Mom! Another stellar review! Love you guys!
My favorite Journey song and they have tons of good songs. Just saw them along with Toto a month ago and it was a good concert
I was in the crowd! Awesome concert.
I was at this show! So many memories!!
Great reaction! Asking for 'Send Her My Love' from this band, once again. You'd absolutely love it
The very best singer IMO
You think his vocals on this video are crazy? Listen to the same song on Journey's Greatest hits live. After he hits that note, the girls in the background were screaming.
This song has a special place in my heart from my first love. I hear it and am instantly transported back to 1981.
Speaking of guitar perfection, how could Neal not be great after playing with the legendary Carlos Santana. You can hear Santana in most of their songs.
This is from the documentary Frontiers and Beyond. It not only followed them but their 70 person strong crew. Setting out on tour, I believe the Philly show had 90,000 people. Check it out. I have a lot to suggest but not sure if you need to be a member and I have been unemployed 8 months so catching up on your channel.
Any Way You Want it (Live 1981) Escape Tour. Not going to regret it, guaranteed!
If you get a chance the Live in Tokyo 1983 is my favorite check it out, thanks...love this song and any song with Steve Perry...If havent done Mother, Father, Live in Houston is also a good one, Wheel in the sky, lights, and stay awhile live in osaka japan also...
Absolutely my fave
Also Stone In Love
And dont sleep on the Band Loverboy
my favorite Journey song. Thank you
I was there!! So awesome.
Best Journey song... ever!!!
Amen. Always my favorite. Don't see many that put it in the top slot
I suggest listening to "Be Good To Yourself"
Just another hit from one of the three top albums of all time…” Escape”.
Please react to "Stone in Love"
just so good!
Saw them in 81 with Loverboy and Josn Jett0!!
First time seeing journey 1978 they where the opening band for foreigner hooked on both bands ever since
NEVER ENOUGH STEVE PERRY! Someone tell Steve that his voice hasn't "aged," it has matured and mellowed like fine wine.
Deen Castronovo does a great job currently, on vocals for Still They Ride. This, and others.
You should do some early Journey, the 1st two albums with Steve Perry.
Yes! The early stuff❣️
This was the last song I heard before shipping out to Germany in 1986. Didn't take long to realize that the lyrics were a reflection of my future.
Now you went and found a Journey song I wasn't familiar with 👍! I'm glad Neil Schoen was able to show his chops on electric guitar in this one. He is an outstanding musician, but frequently takes a back seat to The Voice.
Such an Unbelievable Performance Got to see Journey with Steve Perry 5 times and Wow! Actually this video is a whole Documentary about Journeys organization and how at this time they were polled and were Americas Favorite Band but this Documentary “Frontiers and Beyond” was done by NFL Films it is something you have to watch at the end was a concert that was this
❤❤❤❤ Journey Wheel in the Sky live in Osaka ❤❤❤
It has been forever since he left Journey. A few years he released an album: Traces, it is a concept album with a matching video.
Can't find that you've done "Girl Can't Help It" from '86 live yet. Very uptempo and the harmony is off the charts good. Plus Randy Jackson on bass bringing in the DAWG touch! 😁
I've loved this song since it was released.
Great job you two!
Great reaction.
Kudos!
When you love a woman, o sherry
Definitely El Vox! I noticed this reaction was last month. Great review! So I was listening to this song on Alexa and love how he holds pitch on "chasing thunder."
Me and my sister were at this show at JFK stadium in Philly. The weather was extremely hot. Sammy Hagar, the Tubes, Bryan Adams and John Mellencamp opened for them.
I have never been a Journey fan, for personal reasons, but I know they have a number of fans and they've put out a lot of music and as a musician I can applaud how far they've come since Feeling that way from 1978
I've been a fan since the late 70s. I own every album they have done. I'm racking my brain to think of a bad song and I'm coming up with notta! At least during the Steve Perry years anyway. I can think of quite a few bad ones since Perry left lol. Great reaction guys! Love it when you do Journey/Perry. Maybe check out some solo Steve. GO BOSTON BRUINS!!! 🍻🤟👏
This is perfect.
There's actually an even better live version of this song. And you should listen to Stone in Love.
Great song. Onenof my favorites..
Beautiful❣️Thank you for reacting to this special Journey song, its a real gem and I loved your reaction. If you want a more upbeat song, (Non Ballad) I'd try "Stone In Love" " Line of Fire", "Escape" (the opening song), "Keep on Runnin" "Wheel In the Sky" "Anyway You Want It." (These are all live on the familiar 1981 Houston concert, but you may find other performances out there too. Another Excellent choice would be "Edge of the Blade" I do not think there's a "live" video for Edge of the Blade" but I highly recommend a listen! Good luck choosing the next one....😊Thanks again Sam and Phil, you guys are the best!
Thanks Mary, glad you enjoyed it!
Neil shona started playing guitar with Santana at age 16
Rick Beato's favorite Journey tune.
For video and audio that are expressly a match you could try 1981 ( July, Tokyo ). Perry had the flu ( often mentioned story ).
Studio version is best for me..
Steve Perry has an amaing voice
Seen them in 1980!!!!!! AMAZING ❤
Anybody remember that time Steve had to go into falsetto? Me neither 🙂
Phil, organic grass-fed butter. To be exact 😂 Sam, that color is so good on you! Y'all will find Journey doesn't have even one bad song. You MUST hear the studio version, it's in my top 3 favorite Journey songs.
I agree, no bad songs. Studio version a must too❣️
Definitely react to Faithfully/ official music video. Also check out the high energy song Separate Ways
I was at that concert Escape tour '81' now go listen to there older stuff,Depature, Infinity, Evolution, Escape Frontiers, Raised on Radio, and Trial by Fire, the first four will blow you mind on Steve Perry's range of notes!🤘Yea im Old school.
SP&JOURNEY are better live you can see the emotion. And how much they put into their music with talent and working hard even the road crew where great.
