    I built the Star Trek 5 version of this as a kid. I painted some parts before building and as a result the pylons would droop. I stuck some old bike spokes in them to help hold them but then installed the pylons on the wrong side. When I re sprayed the Primary Hull edge the paint over sprayed onto the base and gave it a look of stars. Happy Accident as Bob Ross would say.

    I am going to buy a second one of this. I assembled one of these 30 years ago when it was released by then in the Star Trek VI box. Five or six years ago I assembled a Reliant with my own custom light circuit and now I am eager to assemble the Enterprise kit to put in its company.

    I built several of this kit 30 years ago and the Pylons connecting to the Engineering Hull is its BIGGEST Failure and weakest point on the model to support the Warp Nacelles. One bump or drop and those small connecting points will break and then good luck with super glue, cement glue, gorilla glue and then trying to repair them. They got it right with the 1/1000 scale kit!

    This model kit and Monogram's U.S.S. Voyager kit were used to create the USS Jupp for DS9. The Enterprise provided the neck, saucer, and nacelles. The Voyager kit provided the Nacelle Struts.

    Lake Monster Details (formerly Don's Light and Magic) makes replacement/accurized parts for this kit. You can spend lots of money upgrading this kit.

      @@R_T_Ralph Don passed away several years ago. Lake Monster Details, a new company, is producing some of his old line.

    They should have made the pylon cinnection mire robust. I had the Star trek V version and I can confurm that the pylons sag over time.

      some other versions of kits like this use a brass rod, or any type of rod that can easily take the weight over time.
      A simple glue in place should make the model last for years longer than expected.
      My blakes 7 model used this, however titan find molded the pieces with rods inside, but should easily incorporated into this enterprise kit.
      i think they thought, back in 1979 when this was originally made, that plastic doesnt need help, but we all know, its a brittle material, specially when having a space battle with another ship.

    Is this is a new striking of the kit? AMT/Ertl had a version without all those stupid panel scribes, they used to call it the old "Smoothie". I never was able to get my hands on that one. I spent hours sanding down every surface and finished with a complete wet sand to an absolutely smooth surface. I understand the original 537 was a kids kit but with the continuing interest in TMP Enterprise I thought they would have upgraded it including fixing up the many other deficiencies?

    Has Round 2 ever fixed the nacell pylon problem?

    The thing that always killed me is how they put the delta on the side of the enterprise freakin upside-down

    looks very much like the original release (not a re-tool, yes?)...decals are improved...

    • @R_T_Ralph
      @R_T_Ralph  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      they may have tweaked a little, but the bottom of the model and the decal sheet look like the major new things.
      its a familiarity on this model that will be good for me to build, as ive made loads in the past

      no, i never made that one.

    That is incorrect the model had textured paneling already printed on it.

      I am 51 this year.
      Ive been making this model for a while.
      Yes, its not perfect but it is what we have,
      The original had a smooth surface and was called the smoothie, and is exactly the same tooling as what we have today. just modded.
      Its still a great model, but it would be amazing to have a 1:350 model kit to work on.
      I have one finished already and is a brilliant kit.

    • @brienwhite4936
      @brienwhite4936 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@R_T_Ralph that is what I'm telling you it did not have a smooth. I got the first one when it first came out. It had a textured surface. Today's models are smooth so that you can use decals to make it look like the model that is in front of you . This model is closer to the original. It may be the original mold

    How do I reinforce the pylons so they don't start sagging?

    • @R_T_Ralph
      @R_T_Ralph  ปีที่แล้ว

      you could get some brass rods and glue them in place, should help.

    • @benjohnson8175
      @benjohnson8175 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I'll try that. I owned this model before years ago and the pylons kept sagging. Threw it in the trash. Bought this new one to do better on it.
