    My fav QB of all time, and if he had played in this era with his 90s Broncos, they would have won many superbowls. He would have shattered many records.

    People seem to forget that it takes a good team to win a SB, not just a QB alone. If Elway wasn't on those early Denver teams they would have been in the bottom 5 teams each year. He had an inept coach and below average players surround him because at that time the only way you were going to be good is if you were a big market team that had money to keep players around. Thats why there were only a handful of teams during that era the were really good and won numerous SBs. Very deserving of the #2 spot.

      Reeves was not an inept coach he was above average and and the Broncos had some above average offensive players and some great defensive players during their first 4 super bowl losses. That includes super bowl 12. That being said Elway carried them.

  • @josiahstearns9615

    Ya know it’s pretty neat for me because I didn’t grow up in the 80’s, heck, I didn’t even first get interested in football till the mid 2000’s. And then I didn’t become a diehard until the late 2000’s…
    And that was a time when Denver was in a down-spiral and yet I still chose them.
    Then after I chose them I began to learn about the team, their players, stats, how they did in recent years, and then I started looking at their history, HOF’s, big time games, Super Bowl appearances… Super Bowl WINS…
    And when you’re a kid and you find out that the team you picked has a QB like Elway - you can’t help it but to smile and marvel at what that man did…
    Sure I could have just as easily picked a team like Dallas, Pittsburg, San Fran, or Miami and then find out about all of their success through the decades. Doomsday defense, the perfect season, Joe Cool, the Terrible Towel Dynasty…. doesn’t matter - I love the History of my team and am grateful it included Players like John Elway, TD, Sharpe, Champ Bailey, and now in this past decade, Manning and DT (R.I.P).

      @@rossb.4773 As a coach, Reeves used Elway skills to get to those 3 Superbowls in the 80s with an average team he had. He good success with the Giants, but couldn't beat the Cowboys in 93 for the division title, especially with Emmit Smith. He basically won it for them with one arm. He got lucky coaching the Falcons to Superbowl 33, the Vikings choked. With the Cowboys, he was a backup running back and an assistant coach with Ditka. He got a couple of SB rings from that, because they were a really good team in the 70's. Overall Reeves was a good coach but not great.

  • @ryanevans8566
    @ryanevans8566 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    2:50 - Very lazy of Greg Cosell to include Super Bowl XXI against the Giants among his assertion of "the three Super Bowls where John Elway did not play well."
    Against the vaunted NYG defense, with zero running game to speak of, John Elway put up 225 yards of offense in the first half (and these are 1986 yards, unlike the video game stats of today's game). Unfortunately for the Broncos, this only resulted in 10 points, due to a 1st & Goal at the 1 yard line that resulted in three straight run stops & a missed 19 yard FG, and another missed 34 yard FG at the half. As a result, what should have been a 20-7 (or 20-9) score ends up being 10-9.
    Make no mistake, the Giants were unquestionably the better team, but it would have been interesting if they were put into a position where Simms had to throw, as opposed to having both run & pass at his disposal.

    • @yetz2291
      @yetz2291 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And SB XXII to an extent too. Elway dominated the Redskins to start that game, was making huge throws. Then it was like someone flipped a switch. He was in a tough situation, but yeah, he kind of sucked for the rest of that game. In SB XXV, he was just dominated in every conceivable way by the 49ers D, but still, not many QBs could play well against that Defense either.

    • @RR83y
      @RR83y 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole momentum of the game turned when the refs incorrectly called Clarence Kay's first down catch an incomplete pass. Elway was sacked in the end zone on the next play. Dan Reeves was the worst possible coach for a gunslinger like Elway to play for. Most predictable play calling in NFL history.

    If Tom Shady had played back in the days of WR's being mauled by DB's and QB's being mauled by LB's, he wouldn't have survived his first preseason game. Tom Shady's bread and butter play is pass "interference" in the end zone and his go-to play is "roughing" the passer. If Montana or Staubach or Bradshaw or Elway or Marino or Tarkenton played today they'd be racking up 7000 yards and 70 TD's a season.

    • @iamhungey12345
      @iamhungey12345 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the team one would put him in. Brady with the 1980s 49ers would have success, just probably not the longevity he has right now. Put him in the early 1980s Giants or the Broncos team Elway plays for, Tim Couch would probably cringe and said, "I'm glad I wasn't in this guy's shoes".

    I remember watching that helicopter run in the SB. When I saw it, I knew Broncos were going to win.

    John Elway has already done all the things people are drooling about Rodgers doing. How quickly people forget. Elway was more athletic than Rodgers and a superior decision maker.
    If Rodgers gets 5 SB appearances and 2 SB wins by age 38 then we can start to compare him to John Elway.

      +Ben Servedio I'm completely impartial when it comes to the Giants, I don't like, or dislike them. Eli Manning most certainly has a ton of yards and TDs, but I think criticism of him comes from his very high interception numbers. He has a 1.48 TD to INT ratio, which is certainly not the numbers you see in Elite QBs. He certainly has stepped up in both his Super Bowl victories, making big plays when he needed to, but his decision making in general can be very questionable, as he is a risk taker. Although their playing styles were totally different, Eli is alot like Brett Favre, in the sense they put up huge yards, but were gamblers who were prone to throwing tons of interceptions. Both of them frequently took huge risks, which did produce alot of big plays, but also alot of costly mistakes. Eli is good no doubt, not sure I'd define him overall as being "clutch" though.

      cyrax99 Both of his SB runs are nothing but clutch. In 2011 season he threw a record of 15 tds in 4th quarter, beat Tom Brady on two game winning drivey in that year,one of which in SB. He is not elite but CLUTCH as it gets. I dont understand this list. Elway has the same amount of sb as Eli but he was not a factor in either of his rings. How is he clutch? And dont say The Drive lol

      because the head coach, Reeves wanted to run the ball. that's why Elway and Reeves butted heads and Reeves got fired. Reeves called conservative games until the 4th when it was obvious they weren't gonna win, THEN he let Elway air it out to catch up.

      With that team the broncos had, they were lucky to score 10 points. Nobody was going to beat the 49ers that year, they were stacked with talent. Even Elway said they were lucky to get to that super bowl, but they were in over their heads playing the 49ers.
