They won 3 Super Bowls and have been to 4 in the current 90s set. It looks very outdated but idk. Hope they bring back the old unis

Facts
As a Broncos fan, I love the fact that both of these guys retired on the high of winning a Super Bowl.
I have never seen John looking so healthy and relaxed.
That 3rd and 18 throw is legendary. Elway was a beast on third and long with his throwing arm.
As a Browns fan watching that game, once he picked up that 3rd-and-18, that's when you knew he was going to take it the rest of the way in. If they couldn't stop him there, they weren't going to stop him.

Everyone knows Peyton is one of the greatest QBs in NFL history. But he may also be one of the greatest stewards of NFL history itself. Seeing him break down historic games/plays with the legends who were involved in those games/plays is absolutely fantastic.

It's hard to explain how good Elway really was. His arm was an absolute cannon, he could make every throw, AND he could run. Montana was great, Marino was great, but neither of those guys were as talented as Elway.
You are so right. If you haven't seen Elway, there is no explaining it. His physical talent was off the charts, his toughness was legendary, but his sheer instincts for the game were unparalleled, as well. You could have everybody in the stadium knowing what he wanted to do, and he'd STILL make the play....even going deep against the prevent defense, which is supposed to be the one play that that defense is designed to 'prevent'....If people really understood who Elway was, they'd be calling Michael Jordan the Elway of the NBA...
John Elway is the greatest qb ever. He took three average Broncos teams to the super bowl and then finally won two in a row.
People remember the SB Blowouts but he too outmatched from a talent abd coaching standpoint in those games. As soon as he got a good coach, he went back to back even when he was older and not quite as mobile as his young days

Elway was the Mahomes of the 80's. His throwing and mobility was off the chain.
But Elway didn't get the hype of a Mahomes back then. Montana and Marino seemed to get more of the media hoopla in those days. Dan Reeves conservative philosophy just wasn't conducive to Elway putting up Andy Reed driven Mahomes-like numbers.

But unlike Patrick, Elway had to compete most of his career in the pre-salary cap era. Little chance against those loaded 49ers, Redskins rosters.

I remember that game like it was yesterday everyone in Cleveland thought we were going to the Super Bowl ,but thanks to John Elway and the drive Cleveland was denied again ,and the city awful quiet the next week!
These little things are the reasons I love Peyton you could tell when he wasn’t playing he was studying the game to get better, always aware of other players games and abilities it’s how you know he loves the game. 2 of the best to ever do it
Elway was one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up. Gosh he was so much fun to watch. Never leave the game early when they were losing

Jon Elway was my first guy of football. Simply the best with that rocket arm, good mobility and tonnes of winning which made me a Broncos fan. Having Manning is just icing on the cake and makes me an even more proud fan to this day.

I became a fan of Elway after The Drive 2 against Houston. The game winner he threw to Rod Smith against Washington was insane too.

I'm not a Broncos fan here. Just had to say it first but I'm a Elway fan. I rooted for him to beat the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII and it ended up being an epic game. This is coming from a Raiders fan. Sacrilegious right! Lol

That takes some stones, brother. But I'll admit as a lifelong Bronco fan, I rooted for the Raiders on Black Sunday against the 'skins. Didn't hate Washington or anything, But I did like Marcus Allen and Howie Long, and wanted 3 Mile Lyle to get a ring after so many years. Even enemies can show respect!
not me I was routing for packers so nfc teams continue 14 straight years winning a Superbowl, but broncos and john Elway ended it.but it still long streak 13 years.
Elway's arm strength and accuracy allowed him to be one of the few, if not the only, QB's to get away with running out of the pocket one direction, then throwing across his body to throw an absolute laser-beam strike to a receiver 30 or 40 yards downfield on the opposite side of the field. That's a throw that mere mortal QB's would never dream of throwing for fear that it would be intercepted.
The first football game I ever saw was this game and this actual drive. I didn't know anything about football but watching this drive n what John elway did I became a fan for life.
As a colts fan, in hindsight, this hurts to watch Peyton retire a bronco. But it is poetic. Born a colt and grown into a bronco.
Love this! Been a Broncos fan since my family arrived in Denver in 1964. I was raised with Orange and Blue in my blood. I was visiting a college friend in Pueblo, watching 'The Drive' in another friend's bar that was not yet open to the public. I recall being so nervous, I could not sit still, pacing the floor with knots in my stomach to the point of almost puking (I had not been drinking). When barefooted Rich Karlis kicked the winning field goal, my knees buckled. This video demonstrates Peyton's competitive nature. Nearly 40 years later, after viewing this game multiple times, you can see the tension as he grits his teeth. In that moment, he was behind center. His reaction took me right back to that bar in 1987, pacing the floor and feeling sick to my stomach with anxiety. I remember the two-hour drive back to Denver listening to sports talk and recapping the game. In the days that followed I recall a news story about a pregnant woman going into labor after the game. She named her son 'Elway'. CRAZY good times in Broncos lore.

He's right, they'll never be another John Elway. I was very disappointed when the Broncos beat the Browns That season. But I was amazed at John Elway's performance. Much like I was amazed at a lot of damn Marino's and Peyton Manning's abilities and performances. It just shows how football smart they really are. And had one of Titans jerseys from the game he lost in Orleans. I was very disappointed that came as well. But it just proves that one man cannot win the game by himself. And that's why they call it team effort. Giving that extra block and making that extra effort on each and every play. These guys really studied the defense as well, and knew what they were doing. And a confidence level was just phenomenal
Im a browns fan. I was at this game right next to dog pound. Elway was a special talent. Unless you were there, people do not realize how cold it was at this game.
I have footage of Elway - Bledsoe and Favre in qb. competition for a Disney show. Elway threw almost every football thru the tires at 20 yards and I think only Bledsoe did it once. Thats special.
Growing up in the 90's, the drive captured my imagination. As a child just beginning to understand football, I asked myself, how could a team start on their own 2 yard line and score a game winning touchdown. Luckily I had Steve Sabol and Nfl films, good times.
Elway did it again against the Oilers with no timeouts in the playoffs in 91.
@@jonmolina948I was at that game we had seats in the upper level where we had a perfect view of the 4th down conversion on the game winning drive. I can still feel the excitement.

I dont care what anybody says, you cant measure "best QB" by Super Bowl wins alone. Elway had the strongest gun for an arm I've ever seen. He was the best at still finishing a play after getting flushed out of the pocket. He could run and scramble with the best of them, he was very smart at reading defenses. Look at the level of success he had with average teams, and then when he finally got a set of actual weapons, he won 2 Super Bowls in a row

When Manning references "That's an Elway cross" (6:26) he is talking about how receivers had a cross shaped bruise from the football hitting their flesh.
Now that is some arm strength.
What a great delivery he had! I'm so disappointed in fans that only want to quote completion percentage stats when it comes to clutch players like Elway. He was the Larry Bird of football for years. Kudos for making this documentary of a truly great moment in NFL history (except for Dog Pounders),

Loved me some Elway, back in the day. Watching that 3rd and 17 reminded me just how strong this guy's arm was.
Reminds me of how ridiculous it is to GOAT anyone from cross-era. This guy didn't have a "feet-first" surrender slide when running, and he WAS going to get absolutely whacked on every throw, without flag. Then again, there were leather helmuts.
He was a quite good one, and you knew Denver was always going to be a tough opponent.

This was painful to watch as a Browns fan ... after all these years, it still hurts.
After downing the kickoff on the two, and after getting the sack, it looked like the Browns were about to fulfill their destiny, didn't it? Crazy how that game turned out. I suppose it was similar to the way the Falcons lost to the Patriots, just inconceivable that anybody could lose something that was so well in hand until the final moments.
When i was a kid & we made a good basketball shot ud say "Jordon!" When u made a good throw in backyard football u said "Elway!"

Hearing John Elway breakdown the final play of the drive, makes me wonder why no television network ever signed him to be a color commentator?! I'm sure he had an opportunity in the past, but, I think he'd be a terrific commentator, as well as Peyton Manning.
Payton manning first season was john elways last season. Everything comes back in full circle.
