I have probably listened to this whole series more times than I've sat and watched young guns. Beautifully done. It makes me feel for billy. He was nearly the youngest participant in the "war", yet had nearly all the blame placed on him.
"It almost doesn't seem real....but it was." This sentence captures so much if what is intangible and mystic about this era of history. Such a great way to finish the legend.
It really is hard to wrap your head around the fact these were real people and events that really happened....imagine going back in time to see how things like this truly went down and how different the truth behind the legend is
I've seen all the Billy the kid movies every one of them this series that you put together was greater than any movie I've ever seen I don't know why they don't make a movie out of this. It would have to be an epic tale and epic movie equivalent to Ben-Hur thank you so much for the detail and the description was absolutely superb I felt I was there. Again thank you so much.
Absolutely stellar series 👍 the political shenanigans and crazy unfair judicial goings on is remarkably no different than today! Enjoyed this tremendously. Learned much. Did not realize the wide scope of the Lincoln County War. Too bad Billy didn’t drift off and disappear like Butch Cassidy did and live to old age- but seems he loved the Maxwells Daughter and the rest is History 🇺🇸 thanks for this great series! My love for Oral story telling came from listening to my Grandfather tell story’s of his early Days in Indian Territory just after the turn of the century. I have a few old tapes from 1955’ and 1962’ of my grandpa telling stories. Still listen to them from time to time.
Just wanted to say thank you for this. Really fantastic retelling and puts you right in the action. I think there is a lot to Billy that hasn't been told.
You guy's do such a great job. I really enjoy hear all your documentaries. Please keep it up. Billy the Kid has always and forever will be my all time favorite cowboy. I've been all over New Mexico. Everywhere I have read where Billy has gone. Thank you again
I am impressed with the quality of your story telling, you flow so eloquently between stories, tieing each to the other, weaving a mental picture as you go.
Yes sir. To bad alot of people don't notice it. To many folks have their heads in the clouds among other dirtier places. People won't notice how corrupt this faction truly is until it affects them personally. Alot of people don't question anything, they just follow the blind crowd.
I enjoyed this series on Billy the Kid, a lot of it I already knew. I didn't know Paulita was possibly pregnant. You also went in depth on some things I knew a little about and it cleared some things up for me. I love your channel, I am a history nut and I am especially interested in the Wild West history.
That was great.. Thank you from Australia.. I found myself looking this up after watching the recent series here on Stan.. Great voice and great story teller..
It's never been proven that Billy the Kid had a kid right? Has any historians tried to track down Paulina Maxwell's family tree to see in fact that she did have a child by Billy
I don't know why he didn't just hide in old mexico for a few years and change his appearance as much as possible. Paulita supposedly said she would have married him if he asked, and would have gone with him. Maybe that was his plan, but Pat Garret killed him before they could flee. Who knows
very good, however the cemetery was not washed away, only some of the original headstones, all bodies are still there, just dont know where any of them are so yes it is basically a monument but somewhere they are there
They rode for hours to Fort Sumner then sit in the orchard for another few hours in the orchard and decide to just leave? out of silent boredom? After all that time they just decide they're going to walk away now? After being alone in that orchard for hours they hear voices. They've been in that spot for hours and saw nobody approach that area but never heard anyone before that in a few hours either. They see a man wearing a wide brimmed hat, possibly a sombrero, and a vest. Well you are in a Mexican camp and that was their hat of choice and I guess only Billy wore a vest in those days, not just men in general. So you wait to see him go in the house but not to see who the other voices were that was with that person? What if Billy had been part of those other voices in that orchard that you were hearing and was somebody else walking into the house? you didn't think that would have been dangerous to blow your cover and put yourselves on display at that time? Because it was a man it had to be Billy? Ok, they watched the guy with the sombrero go into the house. Garret goes to Petes room. Then Billy "approaches from outside on the porch" when he sees the deputies then backs into Petes room? Which is it? Is he inside the house or outside on Petes porch?
It wasn't the kid. Garrett was a coward. He was scared of Bonney. He did kill someone but it wasn't the Kid. Garrett made a deal with Bonney or something. Too many sightings of Billy after his death caused Garrett's book to fail.
One he said it was Billy the kids voice he heard plus they examined the body after and also they would have continued trying to hunt him down if it wasn't they wouldn't have just let him go
So… what happened to Billy’s pinky ring?… and why did Brushy have/wear one that appeared to to quite similar?… one would presume that it would have been something that was used as proof of Billy, maybe something that was handed to Paulita Maxwell as a keepsake… one should actually wonder what happened to the ring and why nothing of “Billy’s” personal effects were ever made public… it really is a legitimate question.
Great story apart from the part when Pat supposedly shot Billy.......The person Pat shot was not billy and was shot in the face with a shotgun, he was a Mexican who was obsessed with billy and imitated him and Pat could not face another mistaken identity murder and lied just like he always did.
Personally, I would not be surprised if Brushy Bill was Billy the Kid. Given his very detailed knowledge of the Kid's life, his knowledge of how times were back then, and given that he, according to the lawyer who interviewed him said he had tons of scars, both bullet and knife scars, many that matched areas Billy was known to have been wounded in, I would say that regardless of what critics might say, the case that Brushy Bill was Billy the Kid is stronger than the case against him. Will the truth ever be known? Probably not, as one history truthfully said: "From history, you don't get positive, conclusive, evidence."
Just as I've posted on other videos on this channel it's bizarre that for thousands upon thousands of years life was generally the same from riding animals to battling and killings were normal but the time life really started to change was in the 40's when the ufo crash happened in roswell. We started Amping up on absolutely everything technological, weapons, pharmaceutical, knowledge has increased 10 fold. Plus there is so many people and we're all jammed together like rats in a cage instead of being spread out all over earth and it's all by design.
sounds like a good story teller to me with good sounding music rush to print. But Brushy Bill autopsy is proof evidence and his story's did match. although at 90-91 years of age the human mind is not as good when it was in its 20s and 30s there is always someone throwing stumbling blocks out there. Mr bill corrected some of those gunfights story's.
@@mikegrey5663 no that's a lie he Never said he rode with the James gang. And the Kid was from Texas. There is alot of records and varified accounts. Couldn't have said it better , man that was an beautiful ending.
Nothing mystic about it imo.
Yes that was a great line
Truly a great series. You spoiled us with 10 quality episodes. Thank you and well done.
Thanks for the most convincing, compelling, and more than likely, the most truthful version of the saga of Billy the Kid.
It really is hard to wrap your head around the fact these were real people and events that really happened....imagine going back in time to see how things like this truly went down and how different the truth behind the legend is
I lived in southeastern New Mexico. The series was so vividly described that I felt I was a witness to all the events. Thank you.
This was awesome!

Absolutely excellent!
Excellent work absolutely great and enjoyable.
Meticulously-researched series - congrats to the writer/narrator and the entire production team! 👌👏👏🙌🙏
I could listen all day. We need more! Thanks for an awesome podcast
Love this podcast. Well written and very descriptive!
Best Billy the Kid account I’ve heard yet far’ there were not many if any stones left unturned!
Excellent series.

"I keep eighteen dimes in each barrel. You ever see what $1.80 will do to a $40 steer?"
What's interesting to me is why is it so important to know about Billy? What does it matter?
👏
Well, on to Tombstone!

Sounded like Ole Bob had been asking for it,,,,,,,,,,,,Billy gave him both barrels,,,,,,Sweet Revenge
Thanks very much 🙄
Not a word of Jose Chavez y Chavez. He later became the marshal of Los Vegas, slapped arnd Bob Ford
Billy got a rotten shake. Very unfair how he’s the only one who paid for all that went on during the Lincoln County War.
very good, however the cemetery was not washed away, only some of the original headstones, all bodies are still there, just dont know where any of them are so yes it is basically a monument but somewhere they are there
Wasn't Brushy Bill actually Billy the Kid?.....died in 1949
That was completely debunked. He doesn’t even look anything like him.

sad story. i wish roberts was billy. Any news what happened to billy's girlfriend and his expecting child?
It wasn't the kid. Garrett was a coward. He was scared of Bonney. He did kill someone but it wasn't the Kid. Garrett made a deal with Bonney or something. Too many sightings of Billy after his death caused Garrett's book to fail.
I always thought that pat didn't kill Billy to. Billy was to smart in my opinion to go down like that.
One he said it was Billy the kids voice he heard plus they examined the body after and also they would have continued trying to hunt him down if it wasn't they wouldn't have just let him go
Hey Chris is it true that somebody snuck in after they buried Billy and engraved the word pal's ??
no, just young guns movie script

I don't believe Pat Garrett's version.
I heard his girlfriend was pat garrett’s ex sister-in-law, not paulita maxwell
The story of Billy being shot by Garrett doesn’t seem realistic at all.
I could take the building apart to get out
Great story apart from the part when Pat supposedly shot Billy.......The person Pat shot was not billy and was shot in the face with a shotgun, he was a Mexican who was obsessed with billy and imitated him and Pat could not face another mistaken identity murder and lied just like he always did.
