@@coloradoboo1071 RV tires are not allowed to be used after 6 years old. That's actually pretty general law in most countries (western). After my car sat for a long while, I put it back on the road in 2016 and got it ready for a fast x-country move. Needless to say, I was pretty stressed with everything else. Fortunately, my years-long specialist mechanic got it road-ready within two weeks, and the shop that put on the previous tires with still-low mileage told me they had dry-rot and needed replacement. Thanks! Ahmed you helped me last winter with my Camry PCV question. It was frozen and whistling loudly on start up. You said change the oil and drive the car longer to warm it up more when possible. Thank you.
Bought my daughter more expensive tires for her car . They were 90k miles . They got to 45k and checked and had micro cracks . The tires were 4 years old . I went to the tire store place for the warranty and said the tires were to old . I asked the manager why pay extra for a higher milage tire if age declines a warranty ? He said it's only worth it if you drive many miles . For my daughter driving 10k a year it was not worth paying the extra price for a higher milage tire . Now I exclusively buy budget tires . I think they are 40k for the most part but as we know those warranties are pro rated and have little meaning .

Vehicles there for a service ,it’s always good to investigate anything that looks unusual, to me it looks like the work was done pretty good I’d hardly call that a major accident. FYI there are a few sway bars that need to be replaced the Chevy impala mid 2000s is one of them they just break in half the ends crack off them,They are hollow in the ends are stamped flat the salt gets in them and breaks one of the ends off. I’ve replaced a few of them now. All that damage in the back means is that they could’ve backed into something low,If it was pushed in the entire rear end they would total the vehicle out.I had a friend back into a tree stump he did similar damage no body damage on top but damage underneath.
One of my Pirelli P7 tires just lost air for no reason last week while I was sitting in the parking lot. It was made in 2017 but only had 10-15k mikes on it. The sidewall gave up and developed a huge tear. All the air went out in 2 seconds. This was an expensive tire. I realize now it’s better to buy cheap tires if you don’t drive much. I had cheap tires in the past and they performed just as good. The only difference was that the generic brand lasted 20k miles.
If you are buying a used Toyota any where near Chicagoland, make the necessary arrangements to have it inspected first at TCCN.... Wise money well spent.
I wonder if that crashed caused the spare tire to hit the sway bar, consequently bending it some. Also as someone who does the service on my grandma's Ford Escape and her ATVs...I sadly find a lot of mistakes left behind by whatever shops she's taken these things to get oil changes previously. After I saw this, I had to run out to the garage to check my tires. They are 9 years old, but have zero cracks. I wonder if it's because it's in the garage all the time, and the rubber is not bombarded with UV. My original battery has also just turned 9 years old.....It's never failed me in our Chicago winters, so I'll give it one more year. I have to thank you for talking about brake fluid. When I bought one of those testers, I had a reading of 2%. I checked it again a few days ago, and it said 3%....The fluid is clean, but I'll have it changed very soon.
I got ten years out of two Subaru batteries, but I wouldn't recommend trying it. Buy tires and batteries in the spring and early summer when no one is buying them. it's hard to get a good deal when every body is getting ready for winter.
Its amazing how so many purchase used cars based on the exterior and interior and popping the the before purchasing a car without inspecting under the car$$& were some of the most expensive parts are located what you exposed.
Nice educational video! Will keep track of my tires for dry rot.Replaced sway bar? The driver must have driven into a deep ditch or over a large rock and damaged the sway bar. Keep us informed about maintaining our Toyotas.
Actually the rear anti-sway bar on the AE114 Corolla breaks without needing an accident. It's most likely a design fault. This model, however, is for the Japanese domestic market so many people don't know about this car.
I gave up on Michelins after the last two sets I purchased from Costco dry rotted after less than 3 years and 35,000 miles even though my car is garage parked. Service manager at Costco stated that Michelin tires are not built as well as in the past and might be lacking sufficient anti UV additives.
Will Toyota make a catalytic converter cover for or is one available for the new Corolla Cross. In Illinois theft is a big problem. Is there any device on the market to prevent car jacking. A engine cutoff separate fob?. Thanks...
Have you found Michelin's to show signs of dry rot quicker than others? Something I've observed in the past 10 years of working on cars is how quickly Michelins (of most any model) show dry rot sooner by a year or two - regardless of miles and similar operating conditions.
I’ve got a set that’s 6 years old with 73,000 miles on them and they just have some small minor cracking starting. On the other car they are 9 years old and no signs of any cracks. Having owned lots of Michelin tires, it seems odd to me. I thought the ones on that Highlander looked like retreads!
@@TheCarCareNut I have found on both Toyota and Honda original batteries there is little to no corrosion on the terminals. After replacing the battery, especially with Interstate, you can't stop it. I've tried felt washers along with sprays after a thorough cleaning. NoCo cleaner is amazing, especially on the Toyota/Lexus terminals with all the open areas. I've heard dielectric grease or silicone dielectric works and am going to try that next.
Yeah I just had new tires installed and while doing oil change noticed inside label on tire facing outwards. Luckily not driven alot before noticing it. Garage fixed it no charge but had I not noticed it would've ruined $250 worth of tires.
I will say one thing, all aluminum is not the same. The block may be a different alloy than the trans. 6061 for example is much more corrosion resistant than 7071, although 7071 is much stronger and more expensive. Now they may well be the same alloy, but engineers make these decisions based on the cost/benefit ratio. Also, I replaced the swaybar on my car with a thicker one to tighten up the handling, the car has never been in an accident.
Come on they are Michelin's tires... Best tires ever! Seriously all tire rot and after 4-6 years in the hot sun will make them prone to a blow out at high speed. Buy cheaper tires if you don't drive much. I replaced my Michelin's tires at lest than 35K... cause of dry rot. Thank you for a great video.
Bought a vehicle, noticed the rear bumper was missing 2 screws, and the rear sonar was disconnected. Clean CARFAX with no accidents, but that did bother me. Since it was a truck, I assumed someone had a beefy aftermarket bumper and then put the original back on when they sold the vehicle. What are your thoughts @carcarenut?
Regardless of dry rot on the tires ... they were pretty thin tread wise. I would of replaced them already. I don't run my tires down to the last mm's of depth. Those things were worn and even unevenly inside to the outside. All tires dry rot - Michelins aren't any worse than others tire "experts".
Love this a person looking extra careful in finding things and sharing with the owner to be aware - plus being honest !!!

Great clear video, you could see the cracks.
Great video my friend got an 98 Camry le with 363,243 miles runs great always did maintenance Toyota are very good cars for reliability I just have to do the remain seal in the future you can also check the vin if the vehicle was in a accident aswell
Tons of useful information there. Fantastic!
Right, now I need new tires.
This mechanic is unbelievable great I only wish I new him sooner I’m have him check out my 2019 Corolla soon thanks for all your knowledge on your vehicle you work on see you soon Joe postada
you're like Dexter of cars. and i am almost certain the stealerships wont treat a car like you do. good tips. great video as always from you two.
Brake fluid is great at attracting water. We chemists call it a hygroscopic fluid, it attracts water quite easily. Change the bf every 2 years.
Great content - I really enjoy your detailed yet simple description of what you are seeing.
Great info on what stickers tell us, Mr. Car Care. Now I know.
Its amazing how so many purchase used cars based on the exterior and interior and popping the the before purchasing a car without inspecting under the car$$& were some of the most expensive parts are located what you exposed.
I am not surprised they are Michelin tires cracking. Every Michelin tire i have seen over a few years cracks like that
great tip about universal joint. Good luck with your new shop
I am looking forward to your review of the 2025 HIGHLANDER. I learned so much about my 2021 HIGHLANDER. Thanks
Thanks for taking the time to educate us. I appreciate you.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your Toyota "know-how" knowledge with us out there.
Great video as always! The new shop looks really good. God bless!
wow thanks for the tire advice and what to look for when buying a car thanks very much
Nice educational video!
Some GMs have that problem as well.
Wow I'm loving this kind of videos real-life examples and deep explanations
I really like the new shop. Its GREAT you can go under the cars.
Very informative and helpful. Going to check my tires now.
do you like transmission drain and fills at a certain interval, or complete fluid swaps at a certain interval???
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW BUSINESS. PERFECT EVALUATION VERY HELPFULL. BLESS YOU
So good to know. Thanx. Did you notice the manufacture date on the sidwall of the tire?
They must be Michelens. Every five years mine developed cracks.
Thanks...
I’m running out to the garage to check my Sequoia for stickers! Thanks Amd.
Have you found Michelin's to show signs of dry rot quicker than others? Something I've observed in the past 10 years of working on cars is how quickly Michelins (of most any model) show dry rot sooner by a year or two - regardless of miles and similar operating conditions.
Have noticed the same.
They do show dry rot more than others. They’re very nice tires but this is one of their common things
Do you use Toyota batteries when replacing batteries in Toyotas? If not, do you have a preference ?
Hi! At this time I order batteries from the dealership but soon we’ll have interstate batteries which is basically the same as the dealership battery
How often should diff fluid be changed in general on a Toyota?
Great, observations looks like you really enjoy your new shop! I am glad it is going well. God Bless you also. Thanks again!!!
Always great informative videos. As an owner/maintainer if two Toyotas thank you.
As per season when is it better to change engine oil? Before winter or before summer, or after winter or after summer?
Absolutely check the date codes on every tire. 6 or 7 years and start thinking about new ones.
Those tires have a huge chance of separation. Especially in extreme high temperature states.
Love these videos! Great to get an idea what to look for under my car or when buying a used one
Thanks for zooming in & adding lite to the tires! Damn, ur good! Great video! Hi, Mrs CC! 🤓👍
Bought a used 2016, I have to go under it now to look for stickers :-). Thanks AMD!
Regardless of dry rot on the tires ... they were pretty thin tread wise. I would of replaced them already. I don't run my tires down to the last mm's of depth. Those things were worn and even unevenly inside to the outside. All tires dry rot - Michelins aren't any worse than others tire "experts".
Darn Michelin, they give you a 80k mileage tread wear warranty and they always crack like this within a few years.
