As I beginner of pvz speedrunning this guide eliminates all of the question in my head and I really thankful about this.I hope some beginner runners start do attemps. If you're a new one please trust me and speedrun this game. See you on the leaderboard
1:14 doctor who reference detected the main tip that I think helped me a TON with speedrunning this game is this: watch other runners. Each runner has their own playstyle and their own way of solving waves. It's really important to see how different players react to different situations, so you can really understand every possibility and solution. Whenever you see someone make a play that you wouldn't have done, think about why they made that play - or if they're streaming, ask them! It's the best way to learn. PvZ is pretty unique in that watching other runners is some of the best practice you can do.
Also, if you are starting speedrunning, don't expect to compete with the top runners as soon as you start. They have played for hundreds of hours. It takes loads of practice to compete. Remember that this should be fun, and enjoy yourself.
And I don't wanna forget to add the daves dialogue can fastly passed with pressing spaces until the dialogue ends I learned it from sasq itself so thank you sasq!
this was a really good video, another idea for a guide is to make one like this, but at a more advanced level that explains a lot of small details and things that you left out like wavepoints, i think it would be a good 2nd guide for people who have been running the game for a little bit and want more general info
Omg man I was always looking for this. I tried to make notes about speedrunning after watching bulbasaurs speedrun and I think I understood some portion of it. Anyways thanks a lot for this vid
So when you mention wave points at around 16:40, are you reffering to essentially "how much" zombies the game can spawn per wave? (Like a basic zombie is 1 point, conehead is 2, etc.) or is this something else?
Should I be flamed because the only reason why I'm watching this, is so I can finish the game fast as possible-? Like- No "trying to get an achievement", I just wanna finish this game as fast as possible
Hey hey dude! I'm a casual player and not at all into actually speed running, I just love watching these sort of videos! Thank you for your work! Just one weird suggestion: the blur you use when you want to focus pull from the game-play to some graphic in front , is really ugly, I think it's a box blur or something like that? Try using Gaussian or some other algorithm. The blur you use is really unsexy and sharp As seen in the first few seconds of the video Thank you and keep up the awesome work
Thank you for the feedback! I didn't even know that there were different blurs until after I had uploaded this video. Another commenter pointed it out to me and I found out that there are better looking ones! I will absolutely be sure to use those better blurs in the future!

There are a few differences in hitboxes (starfruit are not as effective) and mobile is best played offline because of ads. I can’t remember all of the differences off the top of my head but I know of those.
There is a lot of minor differences that favors pc. 1- Zombies takes longer to show up on screen especially screen doors meaning the mobile version is generally a lot slower. 2- There is no hotkey that can be used to skip Dave dialogue or the seed screen and transition between levels. 3- Plant selection doesn’t show all plants at once so you will have to scroll down to obtain the later plants 4- Conveyor belt holds one less plant which is somewhat minor except for zomboss where executing fast cycles is much less consistent 5- Depending on your device, starfruit hitboxes can be messed up 6- No cheat codes like future or dance 7- The biggest advantage mobile has is you start with 2,000 coins and you can see your money at all times meaning money pace is much less brutal here
@@Itheilalistairgaming Some good tips for roof levels in general are to keep pots of cooldown when you can afford it. Remember to keep instants off cooldown too, and doom shroom for 9th waves and the final wave.
RNG means random number generator. These run on a seed which is often altered by your actions in the game, meaning speedrunners can eventually figure out what actions to take in order to get the “random “outcome they want to happen. However, in PvZ you don’t really alter it in that way, you just change the chances by understanding the way some mechanics work. Please do note I could be incorrect. Anyone with more knowledge on RNG in games reply with the right information if I’m wrong.

I have never consulted a strategy guide for PvZ speedruns before. Should I avoid comparing myself to the 27th place runner?
I recommend comparing yourself only to your own past runs. Try improving by your own results, not from others
what category would you reccomend for starting out? any% and other long categories look very daunting to jump straight into
I would suggest either Normal Survivals, or some Individual World runs! Those are both less than an hour!

There are a few differences in hitboxes (starfruit are not as effective) and mobile is best played offline because of ads. I can’t remember all of the differences off the top of my head but I know of those.

6- No cheat codes like future or dance
7- The biggest advantage mobile has is you start with 2,000 coins and you can see your money at all times meaning money pace is much less brutal here

Isnt the type of zombie that spawns also rng?
Yes, but it’s also related to wave points, which is a bit too complicated for a beginner’s guide in my opinion.

okay you can't mention "peashooter global cycle" without explaining it. The term isn't even available on the internet
It's how fast the peashooter fires after you plant it down. It's completely rng, which is why I said you don't have to worry about it as beginners.
