I think Pauls method worked well, another way is drop them into salt water and ice, I will look into spiking the head good idea. Yes a 1000 reel will suit fine spooled with 2 to 4kg but take your time on the larger Squid. I have 4000 bait runners on my boat so thats just what I use daily. Thanks Guys.

+Martin Nguyen Martin most fish around Sydney are .5kg to 1kg this will cover many species, King Fish and Jew Fish are two larger species that you may find in Botany Bay, Step 1 there are no special spots as fish move about, Step 2 time on the water will bring results, Step 3 knowing how to target and find different species. Good luck. Regards Scotty & Paul

Hey Scott, I noticed my squid jig seems to float a bit - well, it takes ages to sink .....does that matter? Should I put a bit of a light weight on it? Carol
+Carol James Carol my Jigs are 2.5 and 3 its marked on the small metal bib or on the packet, the smaller the number the slower they sink, good in the shallows but in deep water you may need a three. Thanks for tuning in weekly. Regards Scotty & Paul

On your main line you have a stopper knot and a small bead then add the float then under the float add the Squid Jig, this way you can change the depth if needed, lets say you are fishing in 3metres across the kelp beds for Squid slide your stopper knot up the line and set it at 2metres now cast out and you jig will sink pulling line through the float until it stops at the bead and knot. Great method worth a try, Thanks for tuning in remember new clis every Friday on The Hook and The Cook, lease subscribe to our channel and share with your mates th-cam.com/users/TheHookandTheCook Thanks again hoe this hels. With dispatching squid humainly, I thought the head had to be spiked? I was told if you use the method shown her, the head is still alive. Just the info I received.
I hadn't heard that, but as I watched the vid I noticed that the head did not go white when the mantle did. Other vids showing a squid spiked show the head going white as well. I think hyster16t may be right.
It's nice to see how people catch squid in different parts of the world. I grew up catching squid and I've always enjoyed it so much. You may enjoy my channel. I have a couple of videos of how we catch and clean squid in Newfoundland. Seane Rowsell

Hey guys great video. But one improvement you could make is killing the head of the squid as well, otherwise he is still alive. Try karate chopping the neck twice, once towards the body and one towards the head. The whole squid will turn white. Cheers

You will find Squid across Kelp beds over shallow reefs in the Bay, good luck.
