    I suspect the Bosch will last longer. Would be interesting to see how well they do after a few hundred holes on each.

    They both have a application if I was doing large timber frame all day with the Irwin if I am just punching holes the bosch. The other thing you might want to look at is the bisch will probably do better over all with more consumer grade tools because of the threaded tip.

    Those Bosch are amazing, the bit basically drills itself.

    I have the Bosch. Their holiday pricing is hard to resist. I think I paid a penny less than $10 for a set of 8.

    Irwin unforgivably changed the character of their speedbor bits but not the item numbers. I use them for fine woodwork or used to. Its called bait and switch. The new form sucks!

    Very impressive with the speedbor but the bosch is cleaner and I think I agree with the tie I love my bosch daredevil but I wouldn't mind picking up the speedbor and giving them a try

    I just bought a Bosch 3/4 spade bit to help create a bench out of drift wood. It was fantastic on a ridgid Pulse Driver. I helped create holes for 3/4 dowels to help hoof it together.

    I have the Bosch daredevils and love them except they do need a stronger drill to run them at high speed because the threaded tip on the daredevils can make a smaller drill kick in its overload protection and shut off

    The side spurs on my 1/2" bosch bit wore down and don't dig as good as it used to. I've only used it a few times in treated lumber. Not even used that hard. Bores the hole until it reaches the end where the point doesn't have anything to pull it through. Then I have to push or go the other side.

    I think perhaps a missed feature of the Bosch is the lesser amount of wear on the user’s body after a day of drilling. I own an Irwin Speedbor set and doing rough plumbing work they’ve been wonderful, but I do put a decent amount of force behind them. That said, I don’t use them if I’m drilling through a vanity or cabinet unless I’m very careful to finish the hole from the opposite side (unless it’s for a dishwasher or something where no one will ever see that tear out, or I just use a hole saw).
    I’m curious about the Bosch set compared to a forstner set; the Bosch seemed to be cleaner than the Irwin but not as clean as a forstner, but are they faster? Maybe they’re a good middle ground

    Using those self driving bits will wear down your drill with the larger amounts of drag.

    Is it me or did the Irwin burn the wood when you went fast the second round of holes on speed 2?

    why do i use a spade bit versus a forstner bit?

    • @ToolReviewZone
      @ToolReviewZone  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are great to throw in a drill for tasks like running electrical/plumbing through a stud, where as a forstner bit is good for mortise tenon made on a drill press
