  • We had a 11.5 pound pork shoulder, so I decided the best way to go about it was on the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 for a nice and easy "Set It and Forget It" cook. 🐖🔥

    You can tell this guy knows what he's doing because who else walks around with wood chunks in all of their pockets

    I use the exact same method for the hopper. Alternate layers of lump and briquette with wood chunks scattered throughout. Gives the best of all worlds. Great cook Joe!

      Much appreciated, Guy! 👊 The Masterbuilt is one heck of a machine and couldn't agree more, love to alternate the lump and wood chunks. 👍

    Next time you use the Masterbuilt, put the internal thermometer on the right side. Temp will probably higher. Found early on to flip my ribs because right side cooks hotter.

      Nice! It's a fun cooker with a lot of excellent features. I would recommend the hopper lid mod and the grease catch cover for the heat chamber below the cooking grates. Outside of that, I love how many things this grill brings to the table. Best of luck and thanks for checking out the video. 👌

    Just a bit of a recommendation. Once you're putting it to rest unwrap for 10-15 minutes to release steam & help prevent it from cooking more while resting then rewrap. Great video though!!!

    @Everett -So I have a Smoke Vault that I use for smoking and a Weber Tailgate grill just for regular grilling but I miss me some charcoal and I really want to get one but the reviews on Amazon are full of complaints on assembly/build quality and ppl say the company has lousy customer service or practically none at all. Can you let us know if you’ve had any problems with yours? Also any thoughts on the Z Grills pellet smokers? Nice vid bro, I sub’d and as we say in the Army....HOOAH!

    • @EverettBBQ
      @EverettBBQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had a decent customer service experience but all I did was order a replacement probe. The biggest issue I've had is the lid of the cook chamber does not read as closed because I think I fried the lid sensor. I have glued a small piece of wood to the sensor to fix it. The only other two issues I've had with this machine is the top hopper gets a ton of heat so it needs a barrier to help keep the lid of the hopper from frying. I also have had the heating chamber catch a grease fire from drippings that went directly into it. That one was on me but still something that will happen with all these cookers unless you leave a pan to catch drippings or buy the mod to channel the grease into the grease pan. I would recommend them if you can get a deal on them but at full price, I would not do it. I don't know anything on the Z Grills Pellet Smokers. I have heard some people have had good results with them, so it's definitely worth looking into. Cheers and thanks so much for checking out the vid! :)

    Have you had any issues with coals burning completely out after shutdown? I’ve gone through two full bags in two cooks. I can’t seem to find any information on how to stop it.

    • @EverettBBQ
      @EverettBBQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been able put my hoppers out completely and salvage most of the coals that remain. As long as I remember to reinsert the safety blades that access the fan/cook chamber and leave both firebox door & hopper lid closed, the fire can't get any more air and usually goes out. More often than not, I can create a whole new fire or at least a chimney's worth out of what's left. Thanks a ton for checking out the vids. :)

    How much charcoal did you end up using for that cook?

    • @EverettBBQ
      @EverettBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! This was one of my early videos and I wanted to show my mixing the charcoal in layers. The Hopper doesn't even hold more than a 20 pound bag and I didn't even fill it all the way up, it just looks like a lot from the poorly shot footage. Thanks for checking out the video and happy smoking. 👍

    i normally cut that fat layer off of the top. is that not normal?

    • @EverettBBQ
      @EverettBBQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing wrong with that at all... I usually rip it off when I pull my pork at the end but to each his own. I also like using it as an internal reminder while cooking.... most times, when the fat cap starts to split, your pork is ready to wrap. Cheers and happy smoking my friend! 😁🐖🥓

    The flavor of the meat is what you should want, not the rub unless you don't like the flavor of pulled pork. Also, I don't know how much it cost you to cook the butt but I can say that with a Camp Chef or Trager pellet grill, it would have cost less than $7.00 for pellets with plenty of smoke. It appeared that your fuel to smoke the butt was considerable more. Also, your wrapping of the butt showed that you had not done this very often. Keep with it and one day you will get much better. GOOD LUCK !

    • @nunyabiznatch1465
      @nunyabiznatch1465 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The cost isnt the issue. pellet smokers put out a lesser-quality smoke than this kind of grill and smokers with a side smoker box.

    • @athroop1321
      @athroop1321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nunyabiznatch1465 Yeah, who ares about cost. Pellets don't give the flavor of coal/stick burner. I don't give a damn what you do, it will never be as good.
