Im so happy for you buddy, and wen you wait for something wen you get it you appreciated more i know the feeling, and what brand of boat and engine you got cap?
Hi Capt.... this is one of the best 'how to do' videos on TH-cam... Thank you!.... The last time the mechanic did this on our Yamaha, he broke that nylon nipple when re-installing the lower unit. Instead of me having to get the boat back on the trailer, and taking it to their shop (which is a major pain-in-the-stern ☺for me), he came to my house in a work-boat, dropped the lower unit and fixed it all with the boat on the boat lift. He's a great mechanic, like you!
Wow captain And that's why I don't let other people do work on my boat. Because they don't take the pride of Taking great care of the equipment like me and you will love to do everything overkill to protect our investment But I know sometimes we have to hire people to do things that it's really hard for us to do. Thank you for your awesome comment and for watching. You were the first I comment back to.😁👍
Hi Capt.... for 32 years and with 2 Diesel boats, I did all of the repairs, and all of the Diesel repairs and maintenance. (and I even went to 'Diesel School' to learn how! ☺)... But sad to say, I've gotten older, (old?!?) and now I have to know when to hire professionals to do the things I can no longer do well.... I try to remember, I used to be a Young Dude too! ☺ @@OutOnTheReef By the way, now I go to the "Out On The Reef Boat and Motor Repair School"... It's the best school in the country!

Excellent tutorial on changing an impeller. Having been born and raised in Miami and working there for many years I had many Cuban friends and co-workers. I noticed several things about their English pronunciation . One thing was that “B” and “V” sounded identical when you called Yamaha “Jamaha” it took me back to Miami days. Thanks for your fun videos.
Hello cap. Thank you so much for bringing me awesome feedback and for being a viewer of my channel all the way from Greece. Thank you and have an awesome navigation, captain.👍⚓️
That looks just like I did it 24 years ago on a Yamaha 175, Captain. For Woodruff keys, I start out with the biggest chisel I have and when replacing. Getting that impeller started is a pain sometimes because you think you are going to damage it. In addition, I use Scotch-Brite on the vertical shaft and the prop shaft to keep the corrosion down. ( I used to work part time at several marinas and did just about all of my own boat maintenance on Mercruiser and OMC outdrives, grew up working my Dad's boats which where I learned). Great job.
Great suggestion, Jeffrey. Thank you, and I'm sure you have good memories when you used to work with the dad. And thanks for watching and always navigate safe captain
Nice work. Pro tip I learned from an older gentleman that worked in the outboard racing business. After removing the plastic housing on the water pump. Remove the 2 alignment dowels on the steel plate and you can remove the plate around the woodruff key without needing to take the key out. The hole in the plate is just big enough to slip by it. Saves so much time and no need to ever remove the key, just clean around it.
Very true, captain and the Woodrow key I did not remove it last time. I did the impeller change so it was well overdue. Probably on the next time. I will not change it but if it removes easy. I will change it again because it gets stuck with a salt water environment. And I really like to take that off but I see your point. Thank you for your comment and for watching captain.👍🛥⚓️
The woodruff key is a pita for sure. A tip for next time which has made removal much easier for me is to grind a small amount off the back side (rounded half) that goes into the shaft to make it more tapered. Not too much, just a very little and it does not get stuck too much.
@toddstevens2441 Awesome, captain. I am glad that I have helped. It is a privilege for me to share what I know. Thank you for watching and always navigate safe, captain.
Thank you so much for this video ! I have asked others why my new pump wasn’t working no one had an answer. I even paid just answers, they didn’t know what they were talking about. Then at 14:26 it all became clear. Thanks

For any other F200's owners who put it all back together and get a bad clunk at low RPM's (it sounds like prop chatter, but worse)....preload the the shaft/pinion space by PULLING UP ON THE DRIVE SHAFT while hammering down the metal collar over the plastic bushing / 3 washers. Its a lot easier to have someone help to do this step.
Great video as always. I suggest using Dawn liquid soap while installing impellers into housing. I have twins Cat C18 and they go in like butter. Best of luck and keep on fishing.
Great idea, captain. Thank you for the great suggestion. I will keep that in mind for the next time. Thanks for watching and see you on the next video captain
You should've sanded the side of the new woodruff key down a little bit. Had same issue with my F150. Sanded/filed a tiny amout off the woodruff key and never had an issue since. And use anti-sieze instead of grease on the key too.
As I watched you disassemble the outboard, I wondered if having some Barnacle Buster in a small bowl wouldn't be helpful. It would be the equivalent of spraying PB Blaster or WD40 on metal parts before trying to disassemble them. In this case, soaking it would soften the salt build-up and ease its removal. Congrats on doing your own service, once again!
Thanks for doing this WP video. Will be doing my f150 soon and your demo shows all the tricks. I've done 50 hp and 15 hp but never a motor this large. I hope mine goes as well as yours did.
I am sure you gonna do well, captain. Just make sure you put everything back together. And when you put the outdrive in, make sure the shifter and the speed diameter is fit in place and you shouldn't have a problem. And in the future, let me know how I went. Thanks for watching.
Hello cap. And yes the savings are from $400 to 600 done with a mechanic And doing it yourself, you will do it right. Thanks for watching captain and see you in the next video
Tip I've seen don't know if it's pro though lol I learned to put a zip tie around the impeller and fold the fins to the direction it's supposed to go pull the zip tie to keep the fins in place. You then put the housing down half way to cover the top of the fins then cut the zip tie, housing slips right on
You're right, captain and I went back and changed it to a new one just for that reason for the pizza. Mine, I'm with you on that, captain. And they're very unexpensive anyway And thank you for watching captain
I've melted the housing and impeller running the engine on muffs before. It looked like I ran it with out water...but I hadn't! I had the dual inlet style muffs and the muff rubber had gotten hard over time..and allowed a lot of water to leak around them.
Was going to ask why you run on the muffs. That can lead to many issues like you experienced for overheating if you have any leakage or not enough water pressure/volume. Best to just flush via the flush connection.
Haha, but using the muffs caused the overheat problem in the first place right? Anyhow, normal maintenance should change impeller every few years or sooner if notice a reduction in the pee spray stream. Some folks don't trust the flush port with hose, but after 1400 hours on mine, when pulling out the thermostats, there is very little corrosion, so it must work good enough.
Keep your eye on the harmonic balancer. That’s what went up on mine. Motor threw a low oil pressure light. The balancer hear had exploded and sent pieces down into oil pan.
Thank you, captain, just getting ready for this new season. And hopefully the weather would die down So we can get out there on where we love thanks for watching captain
