Rural communities are taking positive action to protect Zambia's wildlife

In Zambia, the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) is supporting the Zambian government to help rural communities living near protected areas move into sustainable alternative livelihoods and break their dependence on wildlife crime. The initiative, which is being funded by the Global Environment Facility(GEF), is a partnership between UNDP and the Zambian Government and is implemented through the Forestry Department, under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife under the Ministry of Tourism and Arts.
