I'm a relatively new collector, well returning one, And I gotta say Dave watching your videos has taught me some great lessons in collecting and what mistakes to look out for. Now when I look at my shelves I only put the characters on their that bring me joy otherwise I don't go out and get them. But back in the day I would have been a fool and bought everything in every wave just to have them. So thank you Dave for the wisdom you installed in me and what collecting mistakes to look out for, as you always say money and space is essential in this game. Keep up the good work brother.
I find it strange that people have to "learn" this. Common sense dictates that you don't HAVE to buy everything...and, in fact, SHOULDN'T if space and money is a factor. I always knew this and only buy what I really want. There may be only just a couple figures in my collection that I bought just to have and don't really have any attachment to. Being selective from the very beginning has saved me tons of money in the long run and really prepared me for the price-hikes we're currently experiencing in the action-figure world.
I’m I new collector too, started last month 😂🙈 and I’m I bit overwhelmed. I want so much but money is always a factor and the fact that I have the urge to buy everything before it will be discontinued and I can’t get it anymore 😔 that is my biggest issue. Especially Spider-Man. Why in hell it’s so hard to get an oldschool 90s spidy ? This channel opened my eyes for so many cool figures. Kudos to Dave 👍
@@filipporomano9971 FOMO is real in collecting. Things do sell out and if a huge nerd like me then love so many franchises and characters it’s a bit harder to pick. Like if u just love Batman, ok then just get the best 2-3 Batmen. But I love Star Wars,and I love dc,and marvel , both movies and comics so now that’s two lines in one company. But what I try and do to cut down on some fomo or impulse buying is preorder. 1 have time to think about the purchase and can cancel very easily on bbts or EE and 2 then I am ordering figures I love and want and not because it’s selling out all the sudden or it’s in a new movie or show. Basically so other people opinions can’t really sway u.

@@deadpoolanimation7297 yeah..no matter how much we try to deny it....marvel legends are kid toys...they are cool kid toys....but they are kid toys at the end of the day, and most of the time, they can't compete with higher end products.
@@raykincaid684 agreed, and after you get something like a mezco or mafex when you pick up a cheap plastic marvel legend repaint it just doesn't feel the same

Sometimes getting whole wave or even two for price of one mezco or hot toy is better though. Depending on how many franchises or I.P’s u love. Quantity may be better option, especially if u can’t really afford to fill out one line in a higher end, and when they sell out fairly quick and don’t have a lot of time. Like I am newer to hot toys and Mandalorian is a newer show, so I was able to slowly build a nice mando display buying them as they com out with hot toys and didn’t have to pay secondary prices. But say u want a huge X-men or Avenger display, any big cast of characters. Might want to go for quantity and what’s actually still available and don’t pay scalp price. That’s what I do at least, if I can afford and attain enough for a decent display go high end. If not legends and mcfarlane can build a badass display when done right.
This is an inspiration for me. My collection has grown way too big and I need to make a lot of cuts. A LOT of cuts. You're giving me strength and showing me it can be done! :)
What have you decided so far to get rid of and what is your decision making process?
@@darrenngo3950 It was such a pain to get them, and would be such a pain to get rid of them, and then such a pain to potentially regret selling them or missing them, so I'm in the position where I can't sell a thing just yet, not even duplicates. The first things I'd sell might be duplicate DVDs possibly, but maybe not, and then the next might be books I'm not interested in re-reading, but that is doubtful too, haha and for toys it would be duplicates then first, and then reducing my collection, but really I've never just gotten stuff that I didn't want or want represented in my collection and a lot is very difficult to get, so my main goal is just to have extensive space and to make use of them all on display.
A smart move to do an inventory and be selective with your collection. It's WAY too expensive to collect all the different waves, variants, anniversary figures and now HasLab. A large collection takes up a lot of space to properly display too. It's big $$ just to collect Marvel Legends, but a lot of collectors also buy either; comic books, Star Wars, GI Joe, Mezco, TNMT, DC McFarlane, Wrestling, Jurassic, Neca, MOTU, Mythic Legions and well you get the idea-crazy expensive! I have a collection of DC Universe Classics (which at the time cost $9. each) and I "cherry pick" Marvel Legends based on the comics, not the movies. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Upgrade to Marvel Universe! All the characters you want- half the price. Plus, custom everything is out there. You want Thanos' teleport chair? It's out there. Plus stuff Legends won't touch like the original costumes for Ms.Marvel, Captain Britain etc.
Getting rid of Grey Gargoyle and Whilwind and the Living Lazer!!! Don't do it Dave. I have found memories of those villains in the early 90's Iron man cartoon, and the sega mega drive game Avengers assemble. Whilwind was my favorite.
The Best Loki is the Wal-Mart Comic Book Series version. Thee 👌 face sculpt. That's the definitive Loki.
Sometimes ya gotta downsize to upgrade … a more refined collection but still hard to watch 😆… I could let a few of those go but most are staying in my collection. 🙌

Since Marlena passed away I've jumped headfirst into my collection . It's something to pass the time .
For years Ive called myself a figure "curator" and not a collector because Im a minimalist at heart and Ive never liked them all bunched up on a shelf. And not only is it a money saver but it kills that urge to "collect them all" and its so relaxing to see a new wave and breathe a sigh of relief knowing that youre going to pass on most, if not all of it. Welcome to the club. 🙏

I understand purging the collection if you have doubles or have an upgraded better version but why sell off everything if you don't have a replacement? If you don't like or care about the figures then why buy them in the first place? I keep my stuff that don't fit on display in totes and keep the collection on rotation. Keeps everything looking different all the time and a reason to dust and clean.

Couldn't have said it better, My opinion, but some are the best version so far of a character.
I sell alot of my figures probably like 80% within like 7 or 8 years. Im able to fund the hobby this way and ive seen it grow with little investment aside from what I had years ago. Things become valuable and then things are replaced. For instance I sold The Juggernaut Rogue for $140 a year before they re released it on Retro card with a cleaner portrait. Thats a best case scenario but alot of stuff you lose fondess of overtime.

I understand your struggle, I still have my Toybiz Marvel Legends, Spiderman Classics, Hulk Classic, FF Classics. I just can't let go because it a time period thing for me even though now I almost have two of everything. A lot of them are in containers in my garage.

I sold all my Marvel Legends a year ago. Ended up regretting it. Slowly building a collection again.

Happens to the best of us. I remember starting with Pops years ago then sold off some, upgraded to legends and Neca, then up to mezco, then hot toys now even big PF statues. But having the hobby fund the hobby further is key. In time things appreciate in value sometimes and can upgrade. But sometimes quantity is better depending on how and what u want to display. Sometimes I enjoy more or rather get a whole wave and BAF for same price or even 50-100$ less than average hot toys.
I agreed with everything except original wolverine, juggernaut, 1st appearance hulk. I don't know how you get rid of first appearance characters.i don't know how you get rid of venompool. awesome action figure. BAF can be worth alot of money. i would not get rid of that cap, but i am also an American.

This is why I ONLY collect Marvel Legends. I don’t know how so many of you can find the space to fit so many figures from so many manufacturers, and so many character lines (Transformers, DC, Marvel, Power Rangers, He-Man, Star Wars, Teenage MNT…etc)
David, I can relate with you on downsizing. It boils down to at one time you were so wanting that certain figure or wave then months later you're tired of looking at them or disenchanted by it that "It gots to go". As for myself, I've been collecting then Toybiz Marvel Legends now Hasbro for many years, as much as I love collecting them, there are so many new waves and deluxe figures I want but will eventually have to make room for. Last year I sold most of my carded figures for $2000. I did go through each wave.....picked out a figure or two from it and the BAFs I wanted to build then sold them. It so true like you said, "How many Wolverines do I need?". Anyhow.......great video as always and I wish you a hefty profit on the figures you're selling.

So I was watching the Live Stream and there was a moment of some spicy gossip but the chat wouldn't load so I missed what it might have been! Someone called "Mark Abner" or something, maybe that isn't the name or how it is pronounced, gave 89 pence and maybe wrote something horrific or something? I can only imagine what it could've been, and you told them you would refund them that if they promise never to return?
Haha, what the heck was the story behind that one? Maybe what they said is too horrible to repeat, or maybe it was some kind of a joke? I tried finding what it was in the chat but it wouldn't load it or something, I was curious if anyone else said anything in the chat as well or what was going on there. Anyway, it was a curious and funny or odd seeming moment that I wondered about, one of the rare times where maybe some nasty person comes along to be a disturbing troll or something.
So will Saturday be your regular live-streaming day at around that time? I think it started around my 6:30 PM or so here. How does everyone else always get the notifications? They've been seeming to not show up for me for a while now! I'm curious as to what time in their locations they are receiving the notifications and also what time your live streams begin for them (and where they are viewing from).
I enjoy when you read out the names in the chat of the regulars, since sometimes the chat isn't loading for me and I get to hear about some of the people you notice who are returning. I really like all the regulars a lot, extremely friendly and generous people!
I'd also love for you to someday see if it is possible to make a "Spoilers" kind of series that comments thoroughly on your experience of various things like Boba Fett, the Clone Wars, what you think of Cad Bane, even if it is critical, as far as you've ever talked about any of these things, or other films you've seen like the Marvel ones, it has always been very funny, relatable, and entertaining, and I think that even though a lot of people may have made videos like that already, your audience would love to hear your take in detail and also to get the discussion sort of "officially" started in the comments section under that video, and I'd love to see and hear what other people say and think also under any review videos.
Actually Mark is a collector friend of mine. Being mean and poking fun at each other is how we let each other know that we care :)

Aye Dave! Good stuff here, just wanted to ask: Out of all of these you sure about Spider-Woman, negative zone Spider-Man and classic Morbius and deluxe Thanos?????!!!! 4 guys there, not much! I feel you on the space problem though dude. No regrets vs never back down, never surrender, you don t know the eventual outcome trust me! I ve experienced both. Thats the hard part.....
What do you really “need” answer is probably slim to none. Now obviously characters I love have a leg up but there are times a character I love and a figure I was looking forward to are a bit of a let down. And others I have little to no attachment to, and like u said either bought for BAF, or was at stores hunting some exclusive all day and was just getting itchy and said eh why not. Then I get it home and just fall in love with it. Like newest figures in TMNT toon line, Antrax. Deep cut, I was skeptical but I preorder it anyway last summer and if it came out a few weeks earlier in December might have actually been favorite figure of the year. Also holo iron man, I’m a huge sucker for translucent plastic. So pretty.
I recently sold off my entire collection had a lot of expensive figures over 300 figures total I want to start again but thinking of the prices I would have to pay now it stops me

All jokes and hyperbole aside, it is understandable to get rid of the characters one has no emotional attachment to.

Not to encourage hoarding or wanting people to keep unwanted figures, but is selling figures like Grey Gargoyle or Jocasta even worth it? I've seen brand new Grey Gargoyles in box sell for 10 dollars. Downsizing is not a bad idea at all, but if you like the character and unless you are letting go of a large chunk of them in a lot, I can't imagine it being worth selling it for that low especially online when you have to ship it out. In a few years some of these cheaper Legends might sell for a lot more so it might be worth holding onto them, boxing them up, and selling them later unless you need the money ASAP, whereas figures like 80th Anniversary Hulk and BAF Juggernaut will be worth selling now because their values are pretty good on the market currently.

When I got the notification for this video I thought you were going to stop collecting! I was worried needless to say. I agree with your picks. Unfortunately consolidating the collection is part of the game. I love the select juggernaut the best as well.
About 90 percent of the figures you’re getting rid of I never got because I didn’t want them. I’ve made it may goal to only get and keep the figures of characters that were shown in the 90 animated series of the Marvel shows.

Hey man I understand your thought process with lady deathstrike, but you do have that mezco Wolverine coming. I bought lady deathstrike specifically to pose with my mezco Wolverine, but if you’re posing him with your sentinel I 100% get that. However, I think that lady deathstrike will be a figure that shoots up in price bc of the character’s popularity. Not telling you what you should or shouldn’t do just some food for thought😁always enjoy your videos!!!

Congratulations on the decision I decided to purge my entire MP transformers collection in the summer and I'm still selling them collections are our own and can always grow and sell off that's the beauty of being collectors.

I literally just put 100+ figures in storage yesterday. I only kept characters I love. One day ill rotate them back out if I have more space.
What were the figures you put away? What were the figures you kept out? Who do you think will get rotated out first and why and how soon do you expect to rotate them out? Which do you think will leave to go into storage when the first rotation occurs? I'm extremely interested to hear all about it!
@@aFoxyFox. Hi! Well, the figures I put away are mostly full teams. Like X-Force/Alpha flight/Illuminati/Weapon X all of my Asgard. Or duplicates, I have like 5 Dr.doom/thor/wolverine/magneto/hulk
The ones I Kept are are S.H Figuarts Endgame display/ Age of Apocalypse / Days of Future Past / 1:1 cosplay items / Sinister 6 / Retro gaming systems / DBZ / Star wars black series / Beast wars.
Once I get a nice Camera (hopefully the summer) I will do Toy photography and stop motion. Then I will rotate full teams out and take nice shots and put them back.
Displaying Model Behaviour has put a spark in this old collectors heart. 20+ years collecting!! Won't ever stop!! (my friends are sick of hearing "this is the last figure") I have over 400 lol!!

If you've been researching any cameras, which ones have been of interest to you so far and what are their prices or price ranges if you know? I've been trying to look into cameras also. I currently have a now older digital camera called a Canon Rebel T3i which seems to be alright, but even some of the Canon Rebel T series made after this one are now cheaper due to further updated models, but it seems to do just as well in some regards. There was a video I saw the other day about Digital SLR camera technology sort of stagnating at some point a few years ago so that there have been no remarkable or noticeable upgrades or improvements for a little while and things might be moving away from cameras with interchangeable lenses, focusing on more funding towards easier to use cameras for the mass market of non-professionals or something. I'd love to know if any particular cameras have caught your interest for toy photography or even video making if you wanted to try your hand at that as well, since it sounds like you have a really great collection that could be showcased in photos as well as videos potentially!

Also, haha, in all seriousness, I totally agree, Venompool is a pretty cool looking figure, and who cares about "iconic, essential, one representation", I just love stuff that looks wacky and cool! It doesn't need to be anyone specific, it just needs to look nice and inspire me! Maybe it doesn't inspire him? Who cares if it doesn't inspire him though, it inspired me seeing it there in his collection and having it stand with and against other figures! Argh!

Those are perfect figures to let go of if you ask me. There's one I don't agree with. Julia Carpenter's Spider-Woman. For a moment Parker thought she was the whole reason he chose the color scheme that is the Symbiote Suit. We now know the Symbiote Suit was actually designed by the same artist that designed Julia's suit. Which in my opinion makes her an even more essential part to a Spidey collection.
I'm glad your cutting down some of the figures. I've pretty much sold my complete legends collection and am mostly buying imports and high end figures.
At least the winter guard is still safe, I hope.

Would love to get that Grey Hulk and strongly advise you to keep that Black Knight as he'll be huge after joining the MCU. I don't think Hasbro will make another Black Knight as good as this one anytime soon lol

That is exactly what I've been thinking about, when I saw some different photos of it on Ebay, it actually looked better than I thought, I really liked the nice green color of the skin with the purple, whereas I had not liked it too much based on the official Hasbro sales photos like on Amazon. I started to consider getting it for the beautiful looking colors, but I also don't totally like the design of the character. Besides the beauty of the colors, I'm much more interested in other characters that feel more like characters I'd like to play in a game or against in a game.

I wonder if you guys had a Walgreens on your side of the pond, and more importantly, if you had their exclusive release of mystique, if you would’ve parted with that silver buck, as it could be used with the Lilandra head. That or silver sable’s body is a decent option to use for a lilandra to go with chuck.

I sold nimrod too. It was just a brick like you said. Couldn’t even make him look cool on the shelf. I kinda regret it but really I don’t have any of my figures in a vanilla poise.

Congratulations, that video title really made me react... and watch right away. ;-P Seems I've come to care more about you as my Marvel Legends go-to guy than I thought. So it seems that there were some doubles from another video not too long ago, but quicker on each character. I get most of the purge choices and why, especially when you want to keep your favorite version of a character or didn't really read their comic appearances , but it does sadden me more for iconic important characters with no suitable replacements, such as Ant-Man, the Wasp and Elektra. They feel like a mistake. Probably also for Lady Deathstrike, especially since the Reavers would have been completed this year (I think). But then again, if you don't really care for the Reavers in the first place, fair enough.

Sounds like you should just squish them together I'm minimal poses. And only keep the iconic version of characters. I was able to fit every marvel legends character + some costumes on 1 shelf
