  • Spider-Man fans realized Zeb Wells' Amazing Spider-Man run was trash a long time ago. Marvel Comics finally caught on and decided to cancel one of the worst runs in Spider-Man history. Zeb Wells introduced many new characters and ideas in his Amazing Spider-Man series and not a single one will be remembered as good. Wes explains why Marvel needed to cancel Zeb Well's Amazing Spider-Man a long time ago. Marvel Comics cancel awful Spider-Man comic for good.

I'm still shocked that Marvel allowed Mary Jane to date a guy who committed planetary genocide and gave him the Nuremberg Defense to try to justifie his actions.
This run has been absolutely dogshit and I'm still not even sure if that describes it perfectly. Glad this run is ending.

Nick Spencer didn't fail to make a name for himself as Spider-Man writer. At least not due to his own faults. His run was well-written if somewhat overstretched.
But in reality, his run was screwed by the higher-ups, because Spencer wanted to undo One more day and was right in the middle of it when Cebulski, Lowe and their ilk stepped in. Man had his own story ruined completely. No wonder he left Marvel for Substack.

Except for Boomerang being all chums with Pete. That was some dumb f0cking sh*t. Boomerang has been portrayed as a criminal who won’t hesitate to kill in cold blood for like 40 years. Then all the sudden he’s just Petes annoying roommate and Pete’s fine with that? Why didn’t Spencer just create a new character for that role? Spencer isn’t much better a writer than Wells actually. People just go gaga wanting to see Pete and MJ kiss all the time. Slott was actually good until World Wide(he took that way too far)and that crap clone conspiracy.

I was as shocked as anyone that he turned out a pretty solid Spider-Man run for a while after what he did with his Captain America run. I was convinced that he was going to do to Peter what he did with Steve and Sam, but I was happily proven wrong. Marvel and Spider-Man editorial just don't know how to make smart decisions. I may not have liked the way he did it, but I can at least appreciate erasing Sins Past. I'd very much like for them to beg Spencer to come back, right the ship, do what he originally planned to do, give actual fans what they want from Peter, and then move forward. I don't expect that, though, because editorial at Marvel across the board insists on cutting off their nose to spite their face. God forbid they actually listen to their audience instead of sneering at them for a change...

At this point, I believe that not only Spider-Man, but even most of his supporting cast have all become either bastardized or bland versions of themselves.
Peter’s incompetence grows steadily more and more. Mary Jane is a THOT. May is irrelevant. Otto can’t decide whether he wants to be Doc Ock or Spider-Man. Ben Reilly has literally been fumbled harder than I thought feasibly possible. TWICE. Norman is extremely basic and predictable.
With their recent fumbling of Hickman’s X-Men, I have lost all interest, and more importantly: faith, in Earth-616, as X-Men has proven to me that character progression is fleeting and illusionary in the main Marvel Universe.

Peter will thank Lonnie for sparing him and admit he always thought of him as the brother he never had. Zeb biggest mistake was trying to set-up a storyline with a weird flashback and then try to explain the events leading to present time. It never quite fell into place and seem very disjointed. I never felt Spider-Man didn’t do anything egregious. The plot simply fell apart. Zeb should have avoided the flashback step-up and trust in his writing skills to start a story from the beginning not in the midddle.

I just asked the guy at the comic book store if he noticed that, like ivy, Spider-Man had devolved into a non-stop slugfest with absolutly NO backstory. Gone: Mary Jane. Aunt May. The Daily Bugle. JJJ. Peter Parker. The book had devolved into a continuous body-blow fight that resulted in Spider-Man getting pummeled into oblivion with his costume being torn to pieces issue after issue with Peter never once sewing it back together but it being magically returned to its full statis with the turn of a page. Spider-Man sprayed thousands of gallons of web for hours on end without every changing a single web cartridge. He had no place to live and apparently no need to sleep. Just fight. And as you pointed out, he became a guest observer in his own book. What a crock! Oh yeah, I cannot even articulate what the hell happened since Zeb Wells first story (mostly because I didn't care and stopped reading the text a long time ago). Looking forward to a new team and hopefully a book worth collecting because of the story and not the pictures.

The problem i have with Wells' Tombstone is the fact that it's so clear that Wells copied the characterization from the Spectacular Spider-man cartoon.
The problem is that isn't Tombstone.
In the series the team wanted to use Kingpin but they couldn't so they decided to use another gangster type of villain from Spider-man's rogue's gallery: Tombstone.

I didn't like 4 and 5 as much, but those three issues are what I want to read in a Spider-man book, more or less - Peter and MJ together, building a life together through all the bullcrap. They should be the Blonde and Dagwood of Marvel, so whenever I see MJ with another boyfriend (so stupid), it's like reading Blondie dating someone else.
The Wells' run was not fun. I tried to read it, and it just wasn't very good. I agree that Romita was wasted - his art doesn't look that much worse than his JMS run, but it feels so much better in that run bc MOST of that was at least readable (not all, but most).

Robbing Peter of any chance of happiness by making his soulmate not actually love him, essentially have an affair, and leave him for another man damages her character to such an extent being ok with Tombstone isn't going to compare.

    • @valiantparagonvideos2383
      @valiantparagonvideos2383 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@JP-eo8zw Short version, Pete and MJ were moving in together when Rabin attacked. He sent them to another dimension where they meet Paul. Peter finishes a device Paul was working on to go back to their dimension, but it only has enough power for one. He gives it to MJ, but before she can use it Rabin's god Wayep attacks, and to save Peter MJ puts the device on him and uses it. Peter notices that time passed more quickly in the other dimension (one week there was only a day in the 616), and in a rush works with Norman Osborn, steals from the FF, and hits Cap America to finish as soon as possible. He finishes within a couple day or weeks (it's not clear because the story is bad), goes back to the other dimension, and MJ has gotten with Paul while he was away. It's revealed that he was gone for nearly four years in her time, and within 11 months she starts a relationship with Paul. Once Peter saves her, she leaves him officially for Paul.
I say "essentially" an affair because it's not functionally different, but some people object to it. She couldn't break up with Peter because her and Peter were separated, but she does start the relationship with Paul prior to telling Peter she's leaving him. She has no reason for leaving him other than her relationship with Paul, she just chooses him over Peter. This is why everyone objects, because it's telling the reader that MJ's love for Peter is unimportant and unspecial. She just falls in love with someone else and leaves him. Some people try to claim the fake children (don't ask it's not worth the ffort) she had adopted in the other dimension were why she stayed with Paul, but raising kids doesn't require her to sleep with Paul to begin with, Peter would have accepted those kids if she wanted him, and months and months have passed since the kids were deleted and she's both still with Paul and reaffirmed to Peter that she "moved on" from him.
The Short short answer: MJ was left alone with Paul a long time, started a relationship with him and decided she loved him more than Peter. Which is a bullshit OOC character assassination.

In fairness, Reed was out of town so Johnny and Ben wouldn't let Peter take what he needed, and Cap wanted to question Peter because Paul shoved the dead God (the god was killed by the portal device that sent Peter back opening a huge portal, no explanation as to why Paul and/or MJ didn't go through the portal instead) through the portal and it exploded, so Peter buried his suit because his mask was torn for....reasons....

Then came OMD and its even more infuriating extension, One Moment In Time (OMIT). No joke - Mephisto as a red pigeon releases Thug and in pursuit, he falls on top of Peter and causes him to miss the wedding. Later on, during the retell of Civil War, he is hired by the battered Kingpin to again try and have Peter shot, only he nearly shoots Aunt Anna, Peter pursues him, the fat dude gets away while taunting, thus driving Peter to do the new history memory wipe. Ugh. I swear, if he hadn't taken over Marvel media for the 2010's and been cashiered out, Quesada would have given this guy powers and made him a regular 'breakout' villian. Like Paul, he was just kind of there at writer's insistence.

Thank god this nightmare is over. Now if Marvel really wants to bring back readers for a new run on Spider-man they need to hire someone like Peter J. Tomasi , Joshua Williamson , Ryan Parrott, Kyle Higgins or Dan Jurgens who can make this recent run non-canon and start from clean slate.
But will that happen ? Who knows.
Other than that Wes , I don't know if you're a gamer but Capcom just announced Marvel vs Capcom fighting collection which includes all the beat em ups that crossed both companies from X-men Children of the Atom to Marvel vs Capcom 2 New age of Heroes.
And what could be better than this ? Oh how about a sweet blood drenched cherry on top of delicious cake.
And BTW that particular cherry just so happens to be THE Punisher.
Yes , The Punisher is also included in that collection and I can hear millions of Punisher fans screeming with joy and excitement that they can finally play the cult classic beat em up as either the Punisher of the OG Nick Fury.

I haven't read any of Zeb Wells' run on Amazing Spider-Man and I'm so glad I didn't. The last good Spider-Man was Nick Spencer's run on Amazing Spider-Man and most of Chip Zdarsky's run on Spectacular Spider-Man

Im glad Im not the only one who doesn't like the Batman Who Laughs. He feels like some edgy fanfiction character that a teenager came up with. But no other character in comic books currently ticks me off more than Paul. I already hate the idea of another Peter Parker love triangle, but if you're gonna do it anyways at least make it interesting. Paul is just some bs contrived character that was made solely to create soap opera level drama! I'd be able to tolerate Paul if he was at the very least somewhat interesting, but he's not!!! Zeb Well's entire run is such an embarrassment. I'm glad I found you're channel. Just subscribed!

The whole Ms. Marvel death to mutant thing is so annoying. I get that it brings over new readers that are watching the MCU, but copying the MCU is terrible for your characters that have already established themselves within their own universe. It just shows that Marvel is willing to sacrifice good storytelling and any character development for gimmicks and money

This has been the most mean-spirited, disgusting treatment of a character as beloved as Spider-man I've ever seen. I don't think I've seen any other fictional character treated as poorly as he has in any other form of media
This constant need to make spider-man weak and pathetic is telling of modern media's desire to do everything they can to make legacy characters pathetic shells of their former selves because they really do hate the fans.
Thank God this utter hack is leaving, he absolutely won't be missed by anyone

Get rid of the editorial staff, they suck too.

Zeb Welles is a talentless hack. We need to go back. Undo the Civil War, which was a massive character assassination. It made Peter dumb, it turned Tony into a tyrant, and others - into cardboard cutouts.

This was very fun to hear as someone who has been following this run from the get go. Spidey has always been my hero the one I love the most and want to see and read about. But have never really been a pick a book up at the shop kinda guy, bought collectios and volumes but recently decided to finally get single issues...and this was the run I started with.
It might be because of that that I am a little more forgiving then most, yeah all the Paul, Dark Web and Rabin stuff was horrible. Also how they cobbled a lazy relationship with Black Cat that no one really put any effort in and felt like they made just to appease seething fans about MJ and also sell Peter and Cat varrient covers. But I liked some stuff here and there, like Gang War was fun just to see Luke and She-Hulk with Peter. Also despite her cheap death I also like Kamala in the book and Rek-Rap is fun.
So while I am looking forward to Welles leaving the book I don't fully hate it. But yeah want some new writer to take this in any direction.
