DEFY Menace Tough Everyday Carry Backpack But Is Tough Enough?

  • Thanks for watching!! In this video I share with you the DEFY Menace pack. DEFY is a small company out of Chicago that is making some rugged packs with top quality materials. I found that this pack has an excellent design however the function was lacking. I still think this is a good buy however it does come with some compromises on the shoulder straps and the back panel.

I didn't know it was possible to know so much about backpacks. You're doing the Lord's work.

The 2.0 is almost completely different. YKK AquaGuard zips and a better back panel with more ventilation and contrasted lining. I think they also got rid of that top flap that covers the zipper.

That is a great bag and American made. It is a great company and really offering unique items. Great review as always

I love this bag and this brand. Once you reviewed it, I ordered one for myself. I have some of their other larger bags and I really dig the size of this one, the external bottle pockets, and the other various pockets that are easy to access. Great review! Also, they make some great pouches, too, which I find really helpful for this bag since it helps organize that main compartment. Also, that buckle has the sexiest click!

Fantastic review. Glad I found your channel. For 250 I’m kinda shocked the strap thickness and back venting is an issue. Great looking bag but I can compromise solid features just for looks when I’m commuting daily.

Understandable.. for me I threw this pack in my rotation for a while and eventually I had to sell it. Be safe ✌🏾

Everyone saying this brand is expensive compared to others, most are made in Asia, this brand is made in Chicago. It's like Tom Bihn being so expensive, but that's because they're made in Seattle. Living wages, safe factories, taxes, sometimes it might be ok to spend if you can.

I agree with you. I think that has to be given some consideration when you buy USA made products.. Be safe ✌🏾

I sold mine. Top zipper would hang up when cycling around the corner radius. Too small, couldn’t see anything inside it. Outside pocket needed more dimension. Bottle holders would rob inside space... Built well though! In a few more iterations it will be a sweet bag.

Awesome review. Funny how they like to tout their bags as “over engineered” yet can’t even add breathability to their back panel.

I have the waxed canvas Defy Bucktown. Definitely built better than most, however it doesn’t play real well for daily carry. The Bucktown has #10 aqua guard zippers, and they are super hard to pull, especially the admin pocket. I also think they could stand to add some type of frame sheet to stiffen up the back panel. And the straps! Yea they’re beautiful but horribly uncomfortable. It’s almost like they designed the bag on aesthetics and forgot to take comfort and ease of use into consideration. Probably the most uncomfortable on back feel compared to all bags in my collection. There is more to design than durability. Beefy materials with lackluster execution.

Have you reviewed the Defy Bucktown pack? I've looked through your channel but can't find it. Great reviews, by the way 👊🏻

Menace to Bagciety. In the thought provoking words of Maxwell Smart, "missed it by that much." For two fiddy, you're treading in Tom Bihn territory. Maybe Version 2.0 will bring it all together. Thanks for sharing. One.

No matter how big or small the bag is when your selling at a certain pricepoint i wish companies wouldnt skim on the padding on the shoulder straps. Thats disappointing!

I own this bag along with Fjallraven, North Face, Thule, Osprey, mystery Ranch and others. It's a really well made bag. Better construction than factory made bags and it's hand made I think. If it had any of the aforementioned brands on the label instead of Defy, I think it would cost a lot more.

Does the top of the bag collapse in on itself when you have items on the top pocket?

whad up i watch a few seconds of ur video and went straight to the website wow i have to stop watching ur vids cuz i keep buying bags when i do.!! howewver i did not buy the bag ur showing here i bought the biggest backpack they make 28 to 40l depending on how u roll it. its the defy Verbockel rolltop backpack. 289.00 and i bought the sternum strap for 56.00. tho i bought it on amazon cuz i have prime therefor quicker shipping 2 day. i loved ur pack but i am a bigger is funner always. even at 28l that is too small or me usually but the Verbockel goes up to 40l. i like that ewverything is hand made and from chi town illinois hell yeah. 1050 ballistic nylon. but i have to ask does the 1050 really feel that thick and rugged cuz thats what i love. i own alot of 5.11 rush bags that r 1050 codura and im excited to see ballistic nylon 1050. i love the seat belt material i mean it doesnt get stronger!!! also those cobra buckles are rated for a 1,000 pounds!!! heck yeah. but i have to say im just a white boy from the hood still havent made it out haha tho it feels like home. crazy yeah but its home. but i have to say that not too many of the residents in my community know about kifaru and mystery ranch and the pouches like ur kifaru ultralight pouches u showed here and maxepedition and vanquest etc and believe me im not saying ur from the hood at all but ur demographics with wearing 59 50hats and timbs dont know about kifaru and osprey u know. so with all respect how did u come to love all these products that u really only see a small number of enthusiasts like hunters or military or outdoorsman etc and honestly white folk are the ones u see repping these products?? i think ur awesome as heck bro. i love ur vids so informative and honest and well done. im a hip hop dance teacher and choreographer and part time aveda hairstylist and no one i know has ever heard of my gear. i love eberlestock packs and goruck check em out too!! high end. you would love them both but eberlestocks new website blows. so its not the easiest. they made it worse it used to be well done. also check out tactical tailor high end too but these 3 brands are the best in the business. eberlestock, goruck and tactical tailor and check out the brand new as of may 2020 called the rally pack by pack animal. amazing. i was gonna buy one today but after seeing ur vid just now i just went and bought the defy verbockel instead . but the pack animal brand makes a new pack called the rally pack. this brand just got done with kickstarter and now their a regular store. their rally pack costs 279.00 amazing!! itys 18oz wax twill canvas which is the heaviest canvas ive ever seen on a backpack and everything else is vegetable tanned leather and brass. not one piece of plastic. basically a pack to pass down the generations. even the zippers r waterproofed. its 25l to about 30l or so a rolltop but sexy as hell.but ur vid and the ballistic nylon and the bigger size and durability stole my eyes. i truly hope its as tough as it seems. and dont forget the sternum strap for ur pack it will make it so more comfy and fit better and the defy sternum for 56 may seem spendy but ive never seen a better strap and the cobra buckle on it that is tested for 1,000pounds is so cool. thank you for reading my essay i got carried away and wanted to share thoughts and a couple questions and share some brands for u u will love. be well and stop making me buy packs!!!

how does it hold up to dust ? one issue I've had with my non leather backpacks is they seem to attract dust, and being that they are water resistant they seem to be damn near impossible to clean
