My own history of being a consumer of YT music videos is about 2-2,5 years old as I accidentally stumbled on a video of Geoff Castellucci singing Misty Mountain. Being a huge Tolkien fan( the books, not the movies) I took a listen and was instantly hooked. Progressed from Geoff to VoicePlay and then the rest is history. I can't for sure say which reactor I decided to subscribe to first. It was either Mortius or Peter Barber, but it was rather simultaneously happening. During my musical journey I've developed an affinity for bass voices and acapella alongside power metal like Sabaton and the soloworks of their guitarist Tommy Johansson, who has a great tenor voice, covering all kind of genres, making much of it metal in the process. I would never imagine Mortius reacting to power metal, but was pleasantly surprised to see him discover the musical talent of Tommy Johansson. Seeing several of my favourite reactors cover both acapella and Sabaton/Tommy I feel that I'm not that weird to like both those musical genres. Great interview, as usual to be found on your channel. You always come up with interesting guests.
1) Thou also said root beer, but he also said how weird it was. 2) I really appreciate Mortius's approach to analysis of A Cappella. Thou is great at specializing in chord structure, Peter is great at vocal technique stuff and music production, Elizabeth Zharroff is great at analyzing the voice all-around, and Mortius is great at showing the creative decisions in each arrangements. So fun to hear y'all geek out!
That song Mortius was asking about is "Vive la Compagnie," and from an Internet Search, it looks like it dates back to 1844. It's actually one of my favorites. 💖🎵 I am a fan of both ginger ale and root beer, BTW. Those are the spicy flavors (though if a bottle of each is put in front of me, I'll probably go for the ginger ale first). As for Mortius's special talent, I'd say it would be to intuitively able to pick out all the moving parts in an arrangement at once, without losing track of any of them -- like being able to track the movement of several balls while they are being juggled. And that's not something everyone can do.
Thanks so much for having me on!!
love u guys too ❤️
I'm subscribed to both of you and glad of it. Love you both.
I like you both !!!
