High Elevation Solo Camping at 1600 - [ Vic High Country ]

- There's not much better than a High Elevation Solo camping trip in the Vic High Country, while watching a thundery storm brewing over the distant mountains ranges.
Not only was there a storm brewing over the mountains, i had a storm brewing on the campfire. Campfire cooking at it's best
I had a nice piece of steak and steamed veggies for dinner, and all prepared on the campfire.
Campfire cooking is the best, while out camping.
High elevation camping, with my swag rolled out on the Alpine snow grass with a small snow gum providing me shelter for the night and thrown into that, i also had stunning mountain views over looking Mount Hotham and patches of snow still remain from the Winter snow fall.
Im not sure it gets much better than that.
Gee wizz mate, ya had me jumping out of my armchair wanting to head off up there !
You just can't beat some quality time in the high country mate !
Cheers 🤠👌
That’s a top spot mate for some quality time.
Thanks mate for your feedback
Cheers Tim
I was the driver in the Troopy who stopped to say hello - amazing spot and was great to see you up there.
G'day Rich,
That was a top drive along the cliff tops and down onto the beaches.
I'll go back next year.
Thanks mate
Cheers Tim
Where about did you camp mate
It's a shame the fires destroy all the bio mass every few years, leaving only fire tolerant Eucalypts (weeds) covering the mountains. That was all once covered in Gondwana rainforest like Lamington National Park and Parts of Barrington Tops.
Yeah some of the fires in the high country have been pretty brutal over the years.
It would be great to think we will see less and less wild fires.
Don’t think that will happen.
Cheers Tim
How bloody beautiful buddy. I just came back from my trip and by Gee's it's was a mission one car of the edge on Brock's road went down there to see if they were alright before calling in the ambulance gave them comfort until they had arrived just glad everyone was alright couldn't of been a lot more serious.
Gee mate, doesn’t sound good at all.
But so glad to hear that everyone is ok, which is the important thing.
Cheers Tim
Just found your videos and think they are great. Turning 60 soon … is it safe to camp like this for single females? Thanks, scenery is fantastic.
Thanks Kathy for your feedback.
I’m glad you enjoy the videos on my channel.
Camping solo, you have to make sure you can handle any situation that may come along.
Maybe don’t go so remote for the first few solo camping trips and see how you go.
Cheers Tim
Hey Tim happy chirstmas ,Do you like the set up you have ? I bought new Isuzu mux wagon. Think do similar keep it kiss just swag table n chair n awning cheers kiwi 🥝
Thanks mate.
It’s hope your Christmas was a great day.
Yeah mate, I really like my setup, works really well for me.
KISS is the go, less hassles.
Cheers Tim.
Fantastic views Tim, what a spot! I like your cullender in the billy for the small veggies, Im going to try that. I did hope you would grill that steak rather than fry it tho?? keep up the great work.
Gday mate
It’s a great spot.
Very relaxing few days.
The veggie steamer works really well
I’ve made a video how I made it if you want to check that out.
I like my steak cooked either way.
I’ll grill the next one for sure.
Thanks mate for your feedback
Cheers Tim
Magnificent.
Just came back from the 4wd and Camping show in Perth. It was full of all the fancy gear and you could spend thousands and thousands on all the unnecessary gear.
You have the all the gear you need for camping. Food, shelter and a view.
Yeah mate, the Melbourne show in August was filled with the same high priced gear.
I’ll stick with my basic, simple camp setup.
It works well.
Thanks mate.
Cheers Tim
All those expensive pimped up 4x4’s then you look in the carpark and there is not one
Just getting away from the household & town AC emf field is worth a trip into the sticks , think clearly for a while
Absolutely mate, it's just what is needed some times to get away in the bush and relax.
Cheers Tim
Mate love your videos. Btw where did you get your steamer apparatus from ?
Thanks mate.
I made a video on how I made that steamer.
Check that out mate.
Pretty easy to make.
Cheers Tim.
Love the time lapse vision, keep ‘em coming.
Have you tried Brussel sprouts pan fried with soy, sesame oil, garlic and bacon , bloody magnificent!! Pays to quarter the BS’s before pan frying.
Looking forward to your next adventure!
Gday mate,
I do like to capture a few time lapse, sure adds to the video at the time.
I must try your cooking method of the BS, never tried them that way.
Sounds wicked.
Thanks mate.
Cheers Tim
Hi Tim your diesel fuel you use in winter you have it mixed is that straight from the pump or is it you own special blend cheers Tony
Gday mate
I always mix my own anti freeze for diesel during winter.
I’ve got a few videos about how and why I mix my own diesel during winter.
Cheers Tim
Nice Camp Mate
Thanks mate.
Top spot.
Cheers Tim
I now know why you have been trying to get rid of all that extra weight off your truck. To cater for the 200kg of cast iron 😂
Yeah, cast iron is heavy, but i will never stop cooking with cast iron.
It's so good to cook with.
Cheers Tim
Where did you camp in the high country - was it Dimmicks lookout
Up near Blue Rag mate.
Cheers Tim
they say its called the high country because its high, and its out in the country
That pretty much sums it up mate.
Cheers Tim
Is that spatula a concrete pointing trowel with the tip cut off?
I ran my bricklaying business for nearly 30 years.
When I closed it down a while ago, I couldn’t throw away my last trowel.
Way too many great memories, so I cut the point off and it’s now in my camp box.
Cheers Tim
Have you camped at devils hollow ?
I’ve been out there, but not camped.
Cheers Tim
hey, I just wondered where you get campfire cook stands from? thanks!
They are hand made mate
Not from a shop
Cheers Tim
@@timbates4wdadventures ah gotcha that's what I thought! Damn I want one too! Haha
great video, thanks for sharing. Mate is that a plasterers trowel with the end cut off? What a great idea
Thanks mate.
Nah, I ran my bricklaying business for nearly 30 years
When I did my last job, couldn’t throw my trowel away.
So, I kept it and cut the point of it and it’s now in my camp box
Great memories with that trowel lol.
Cheers Tim
@@timbates4wdadventures Such a great idea and you even use it to help tip your billy up! So many uses with something that size, well done
@@AseanNomad thanks mate
It’s very handy
Hey mate is that an Akubra you're wearing? can't tell what model it is. Great video, cheers.
Could smell that steak as soon as it hit the pan.
Haha lol
Great cook up it was.
Cheers Tim
Hi Tim,love your videos, inspired me and my mates to go high country over Xmas,is it ok to take a camper?want to go from Mansfield through to Dargo,or is it to rugged for a camper? All the best.
G'day mate,
Mansfield through to Dargo can be done with a trailer, but i wouldn't recommend it mate. Getting to Dargo after Wonnangatta, the tracks are very steep in the dry, in the wet they would be impassable.
Im picking up my first camper trailer tomorrow for some of the longer trips for next year.
Thanks mate for your feedback, im glad you enjoy my videos mate.
Cheers Tim
@@timbates4wdadventures Thanks Tim,appreciate your feedback
@@brettrobinson2730 no worries mate.
G’day Tim, great spot. I’ve got the same trusty old Burke and Wills Redgum swag. The made in Oz ones from years ago. Still going strong. I notice yours has the canvas base like mine. Do you put a tarp under yours to stop moisture coming through when it’s on the ground? If not, do your blankets end up getting wet? Cheers Stu
Gday mate
Yeah I have three B&W old school all Australian made swags.
Mine are almost 20 years old.
Not sure what the new ones are like today.
If the ground is wet on setup, I’ll throw a small tarp on the ground first.
I’ve never been wet inside it.
Great old swag.
Thanks mate for your feedback

Thanks Tim. Bloody ripper. They’re a great swag.
@@stuainsworth3432 they are mate.
not watched this vid before tim, great camp mate. wish november was like this here on orkney, scotland..lol.. might i ask which akubra hat is the one you wear mate ? ive 2 snowy river ones and a really old one, (no idea which one} tatty but my favourite.. cheers mate, food looked fair dinkum...
A well cooked steak 😵💫
Thanks mate.
It was really nice.
Cheers Tim
Mate; I was gonna dead set blast you on how long that steak was cooked for; but in the end; each to their own. Looked like a rippa spot though. Nice and simple set up. Love it.
Cooked perfect for how I like steak cooked.

What a beautiful location for a solo camp, the steak looks great how did the 'Fart' balls (Brussel sprouts) work out?
Nice one mate✌
Thanks mate
Cheers Tim
That site looks gorgeous. I'd love to camp somewhere similar in the US right now, but it's getting too cold to really enjoy it. You're transitioning to summer, but it's transitioning to winter here in the US. Where I live, it gets cold with snow only falling every few years. I have to run an electric heater in my bedroom because the vent for the HVAC ends high up on a wall, and there's barely any insulation in the walls. Stay safe out there, Tim.
Yeah mate, we are coming out of Winter into Summer.
We didn’t really have a winter this year.
Very little snow and rain.
Summer is forecast to be very dry and a high bush fire season.
See how it all pans out.
Thanks very much for your feedback all the way from the US.
Cheers Tim
@@timbates4wdadventures Glad you've had a safe winter. Dry conditions with a fire danger level on the high side makes camping less fun because you have to pay more attention to your fire than normal, if you can have one lit in the first place. Hope your summer goes well.
Cheers,
Colton Magby.
@@ColtonRMagby thanks mate.
I just hope we don’t get the summer that the forecasters are predicting.

Love that setup in your utensils tub mate, with the plates and knives in the lid. Is that a custom jobby or can you buy them somewhere?

Appreciate your expertise, guised inhumble, down to earth simplicity Tim. A great relief from all the 'tech gear' noise.
Thanks very much Bec.
Simple camping is just how I like it.

Tim, try cutting Brussels in half a light fry them in salt and pepper with some garlic paste for something a little different.
Anyone know what brand of camp boxes he had with the plates and knives on the lid?

What camp spot was this? Beautiful view's
on ya Batesy... showing camping how it should be !
unlike all those "other influencers" with their latest unnessesary gadgets.
I still reckon you're the best in the game !
oh, just one tip !... me reckons you could've thrown some milk and butter in to the pan after you removed the steak, could've made one magic Diane Sauce
Only suggesting !

I do enjoy the simple life when it comes to camping.
I appreciate your feedback mate and the milk and butter tip.
I should try it out.

Open tracks in the VHC and still looks chilly. Currently 32c here in Brissy mate!
Stay well!
Thanks heaps mate.
It was a chilly night, sure wasn’t in Brissy temps. Lol.

Sensational cookings. Camping on high country is a smart way to escape from the summer heat, flies and mozzies😂 We live in Canberra and Kosciuszko region is where we’d go camping during summer.
Thanks mate.
It was nice and cool uptop compared to the low country.
Cheers Tim
Absolutely top shelf old mate! Can't beat a solo camp in a such spectacular setting that you have to clear the mind and body from the hustle and bustle.
Keep up the fantastic work 👍

That’s the first time I have taken them on a camp trip, won’t be the last. Lol.
