    A fair few errors in the video. No model gets air suspension, they all get the same coil spring and hydraulic cushion bump stops, where there's a difference is the hybrid gets adaptive dampers and a camera to read the road ahead to prepare the dampers for greater or lesser shocks ahead. No mention of Citroën's advanced comfort programme

    • @SneeuwPlank
      @SneeuwPlank ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, also they both feel very similar I hear because the petrol version is quite a bit lighter and should be decent enough without the adaptive suspension.

    Thanks for this. Sounds like it would actually suit most of my and a lot of people’s driving. I was put off at first when I saw 1.2 but with modern materials and engine management, these engines can deliver in ways you wouldn’t expect.

  • @SneeuwPlank
    @SneeuwPlank ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I've been driving mine for about 3 months now.
    First of all, as someone already mentionned in the comments; the 1.2 version also has HYDAULIC suspention (not air) although not adaptive.
    This car spoiled me, as I am now very aware of the lack of pillowy comfort as a passenger in a different car.
    And yes, I LOVE the fact that I have crossed 2 other C5X in all this time, while driving myself. (Belgium)

  • @stevencampbell1150
    @stevencampbell1150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The problem with this is as you observed Nobby, it needs a diesel! A 1.2 in a car that size is going to struggle especially when loaded with people/things. Bottom line is you can't defy physics in so far as a small engine pushing a large car is going to struggle and/or drink the fuel because folk think that if they buy a bigger car with a small engine that it'll be easier on fuel when because of the physics of the thing it won't be the case.

    • @robbie6852

      Spot on. Just look at the last gen X Trail traipsing around with a Qashqai engine.

    • @musguelha14
      @musguelha14 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It doesn't need a diesel, the 1.2 is more than good enough for standard family use.
      Yes, the 1.6 will feel nicer and probably use the same amount of fuel, but this engine is fine.

    • @stevencampbell1150
      @stevencampbell1150 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@musguelha14 I'm sorry but for that size of a car you do. The 1.2 won't pull you out if bed and that's before it starts guzzling the fuel. You can't defy the laws of physics! A small engine in a big car will struggle no matter what especially fully laden compared to the equivalent diesel. Even if it had the 1.5 hdi with admittedly the same horsepower as the 1.2 but the difference is it has more torque to cope with the weight.

    • @musguelha14
      @musguelha14 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@stevencampbell1150 I've driven the C5 crossover with the 1.2 and that was fine, and it's about the same weight. And that was even a manual, so 2 fewer gears and no torque converter to hide the low rpm lag. I bet it's just fine.

    • @ciaranwebb6871
      @ciaranwebb6871 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stevencampbell1150 People have become spoilt. It's got as much torque at low revs as a naturally aspirated V6 from the early 2000s (ie c5 3.0 v6). Yes, top end power is not as high but neither is it in a diesel. it's fine imo.

      I'd have one all day long if there was a diesel option. 600km on a single tank (according to the video) isn't bad by any means for a petrol engine but as a current C5 Aircross owner who comfortably gets around 900km from a full tank of diesel, I'd be losing 33% of my range just from changing over to the C5X. Has seriously made me think twice and stick with the Aircross for the time being (which is a fabulous car either way).

    UK base Sense Plus 1.2 could be acquired through broker for £23k which is substantially less than the price mentioned in the video for ROI. I know as I got one. For that money you get a substantial amount of car, very spacious, attractive, very quiet and super smooth. Seats are comfortable but may be not as comfortable as advertised (but personal preference). 1.2. is capable - relaxed quiet motorway driving, enough for overtaking, not a speed demon and that does not suit it anyway . Again personal preference. Good looking car and unique, not seen another one on the road, so in the car park no missing my car!! My first Citroen and very impressed to date. Can see why it won some awards including Parkers best large family car.

  • @Rapscallion2009
    @Rapscallion2009 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was seriously interested in one of these around 6-8 months ago - I'm in the UK.
    Of the Hybrid models, I did the sums and you never make back in fuel savings what you spend on purchasing it. You might more-or-less make it back on BIK tax if it's a "traditional" company car, but it's a narrow thing. It might be worth doing for the coolth, power and the green and the smoothness of the car on e-power, but financially it basically is a zero-sum game under optimal conditions, so long as you charge it every night and cover the 30-odd miles to realise the fuel savings. If you don't, it will cost you more to run than a straight petrol model.
    The 1.2 seems a bit of a small engine for what is quite a large car, so I was looking at the 1.6 version and Citroen discontinued it in the UK (although it IS still available in ROI). leaving me with just the risibly expensive Hybrid or the rather insipid 1.2. The 1.2 does have the advantage of reasonable fuel efficiency and at 130bhp there's enough power to keep up with traffic but it's never going to be a fireball (but if that's what you wanted, you probably wouldn't be looking at this car at all) - so I'm kinda lukewarm on it again. One thing the 1.2 potentially does have is the lovely mini-v6 sound of a triple, which the 1.6 doesn't (as it's four-cylinder) - so there's that and I do like a nice (muted!) soundtrack to my cars. And it is cheaper to buy, cheaper to fuel and to tax - so there's that, too.
    I decided to leave it and get a used one in 2023. Unfortunately virtually none are coming onto the used market and given than I think I've seen precisely one in the "wild", I don't think the model has sold very well. The used ones mainly seem to be dealer demo models and preorders for which they basically want full price (yeah....no... if that's the deal I'll take the one with the full warranty, thanks).
    I did try to test-drive one but the local Citroen dealers gave me a bunch of flannel about how it had "gone back to Citroen" - so I don't think they had one but just wanted me on site so they could try to sell me what they did have (no thanks, but thanks for letting me know the level of trust I can place in you...)

No 3rd zone AC, no front ventilated seats, no rear heated seats, no window rollers shades... (everything I have on my Škoda Superb now). I don't need a hybrid because it is much more expensive in my country and 1.2 is totally underpowered. Why don't they have 1.6. or 2.0 as an option, crazy? So in order for me to buy this car, I would have to downgrade considerably. I won't do that just although I really like exterior/interior. One more thing, Cx5 is produced in China. I have no idea why we didn't convert to using miles-per-litre or even KM instead of miles. Like most of the world does. It would only take a few months for people to get used to it and make things easier when comparing the UK to other territories - which may explain why the government didn't do this.
