Just changed the oil in my prime at 1309 miles. My tech put it in a clean container to see how it looks. After seeing it, I am a believer of changing out the initial oil early. The engine was used at least 700 of those miles with three trips to the mountains.

Dude, great job! Not sure how you are doing all your research but thanks for sharing the info. I just picked up a 2022 RAV4 Prime and part of the fun for me is learning about the technology in it!
Thank you brother. Eagerly looking forward to your Highlander technical review. Congratulations on reaching the 100K milestone. You are the best. You love and respond to our comments and questions. Very kind of you.
Thanks for answering my question. I called a dealer near by me and asked if either the Prius or Rav4 primes comes with DC fast charging capability and he told me yes, but I take your word that it does NOT.
Hi! It does not. 2 charging options. One at 110 and one at 220 and the owners manual very clearly identifies the charging times from empty at each voltage depending on the on board charger size for the RAV4 primes
My new XSE Prime is amazing. So many plusses. I've owned about 30 cars in my life and surely this Prime has already moved to the best one. In fact the top 4 cars I have owned were all new Toyotas.
Nice. Just yesterday my Toyota sales lady called and said they have two 2023 RAV 4 Prime XSE's allocated, being built, one red, one white. I put $1,000 down months ago to get in a queue and i had first choice. I picked the red one.
I am considering upgrading to this from Prius Prime. RAV4 prime has ideal specs. 42M on EV is great. I am sure in City driving We can easily cross 50M and the dependability of the Toyota Engine. Nothing can beat this combination
Excellent explanations, really interesting. I live in France, and just bought the latest 2024 RAV4 PHEV . Your advices are really helpfull, it will help me to take good care of it. Many thanks.
Hello! Like everyone else here, I want to thank you for this. I just got myself a Rav4 Prime and am enjoying thoroughly. I did learn a lot from this video, BUT - I was wondering if you could do a video to show how to clean the filters for the ev systems? I got the Toyota Care when I bought the car but I want to be able to do a lot of the maintenance myself if I can, but I'm not 100% sure where to go for things like the filters, checking the coolant, etc for the EV system, much less what to actually look for when it's "bad." Hope to see the "where to go to change and check the things" video!
Great News! I have FINALLY found a Rav4 Prime SE without the moonroof option. I take delivery next week on July 18th. The other good news affects this video at timestamp 6:30. Where Ahmed says the SE trim has a 3.3 kw charger, Toyota has made an upgrade for 2023: the 2023 Rav4 Prime now has the 6.6 kw charger on ALL Rav4 Prime's, both SE and XSE trims. Yayyyy! The one I am getting is dark blue, not my favorite color which is white (because it gets really hot in the summer where I live), but I'll learn to love it. I've been looking for one of these since October 2020 - almost 3 years now - and I am going nuts here in anticipation of finally sitting in one of my very own, buckling up, and pressing that "Power" button for the drive home from the dealer. Just 5 days from now! Another comment about Toyota's reasoning for only allowing the Prius Prime / Rav4 Prime battery to charge to 80% in "Charge" mode (time stamp 8:46 in the video). I've read somewhere that this is so that the battery will have some reserve capacity in it to absorb regen braking energy, should you encounter a long, steep downgrade, without the car having to resort to ICE compression braking right away, as soon as you start down a hill. Also, regen braking on steep downgrades at 55 mph, can send as much as 15 to 25 kilowatts to the battery (I've tested this myself on my Prius Prime with the Hybrid Assistant app), and as the battery approaches 78% State of Charge, the maximum regen braking power it will accept starts to drop sharply. Once past 82% State of Charge, the battery will not accept regen braking charge at more than about 2 kilowatts, which more or less renders regen braking on downhills totally ineffective. When you are driving in mountainous terrain, it can be helpful to climb hills in EV mode untill the battery state of charge is at 40~50%, so that you will have plenty of capacity in the battery to accept regen braking energy on the downhills. I've discovered this in my own personal experience of driving a Prius Prime, and I'm pretty sure it applies to the Rav4 Prime as well.
AS Always, You are the best. This RAV4 Prime is at the same level as Higher-end EV like Tesla or Porsche. Not Cheap stupid air-cooled disposable like Nissan Leaf, Renault Zeo, Lupo EV, or Smart EV. The range is now 700 miles or more than 1000Km and basically replaces any diesel. The way it is designed from a mature Prius-style hybrid and excellent 2.5 Dual injection engine. This prius and RAV4 plug-in is not disposable cars like most EVs because the battery replacement is not skyrocketed like Tesla or any EV.
Hi. Toyota Rav 4 Prime on order. Watched/ saved your great vids on them. Please i form re charging cables/ system as we are going to use a 240/220 household outlet eventually. I cannot find info on this. I do understand/ think the charger is already in the vehicle and I will need a proper volt/ amp outlet+cord+car-side plug. This may be of interest to many as charging-systems mightbe needed for other makes. It is all alittle confusing. Thamk you so much for your positive, informative, personable energy ad contributions. Ken
I have taken into account the recommendation to use the gasoline engine with some regularity, thank you! Regarding battery charging, some recommend in fully electric vehicles that the battery be charged to 90% - 95% of the capacity unless you are sure that the next day you will take a long trip, where there would be no problem in going to 100% load. Would it be the same on the Rav4-Prime?
Hey CCN!!! Thanks to you and Professor John Kelly I now have a Rav 4 Prime and it is working PERFECTLY for my needs. Lot of fun too. Big question I cant get a straight answer on. Where is the 80% threshold on the battery? (2021 SE). I use the charging schedule and it charges me to bout 44 miles range. But my engine charging wont engage after 30 miles of range. But I see other people who just leave their car plugged in and get 50+ miles. You see I like to ride my motorcycle in the summer to work and the car will sit in the driveway in the sun for a few days straight. Whats the greatest level of charge I can keep in the battery before I hit that 80% threshold lithium ions dont like?
I love your videos so much. They are so informational and entertaining. I just bought a 2021 Toyota Venza LE and all of your videos have been EXTREMELY helpful regarding the battery, engine, and break in period. One thing i haven’t been able to figure out though is the problem with the maps/navigation. The Venza LE displays an error that says “The navigation app is not installed” whenever i click the “map” button. I’ve tried Entune, Toyota app, and scout GPS, but can’t seem to get it installed. Would you know why this is happening?? :) thanks!
Hi! The LE model doesn’t come with maps but the radio is capable however I haven’t really gotten a definitive answer if you can add it as an option later or noy
congrats on reaching 100k ! your hard work and attention to detail have certainly paid off. I bought a new Rav4 Hybrid (sport) in 2019 Europe, (ireland), and it has been back to the garage on two occasions without success to fix a loud creaking / rattle noise, on the passager side 'B' pillar/door, when the chassis is stressed over bumpy or uneven road surfaces. The dealer replaced the bonnet hinge, and also stripped down the wing, front dashboard, and pillar, to see if it was an issue with the 'welding' between panels, but the noise is still there. Just wondering if the 2019 RAV4 subscribers have experienced anything similar, or could it be related to the 'loose mirror' issue that you have highlighted ? any suggestions or advise would be appreciated, thanks. Daniel.
This video just makes me more excited for the upcoming hybrids. Like the tundra and the 4runner. If they can do all this with a RAV4 imagine what they can do with those.
@@debendragurung3033 Possibly. They’ve proven the hybrid system reliability already but can it be practical in a truck? I think so. I guess we’ll find out. I think we’re gonna be amazed honestly.
@@JayTdub13 Yeah its been very long awaiting. They should have had it by now already. Since the popularity Gen2 Prius which faired excellent in efficiency and realiabliity, we have all been waiting for Toyota hybrid system being adopted to bigger projects. Rav4 and Sequoia are not big enough as they dont deliver much on torque. There is certainly demand of market for efficieny in high torque commercial sectors like the Vans, and medium sized trucks. I am wondering if they will ever get there before the EVs gain into it.
When my R4 Prime arrives in a few months I had planned to keep topping it off with a 120V outlet. I do a lot of driving within a 5 mile radius. But from watching your videos I'm thinking I should just let the battery get to zero before charging it. Also, does the R4 Prime have a setting like pure EV's do where you can stop charging at 80%?
Do you recommend waiting until the electric battery is depleted fully before recharging the RAV4 Prime battery? Or can you “top it off” and plug in after doing a short errand so you always have it at peak capacity?
Great video! VERY informative. I love my RAV4 Prime. I have 12,000 and no issues! I’ve only gone through 4 full tanks of gas so far. Is there a limit (speed wise) while using charge mode? I find that the gas mileage is horrible when using this on the highway. And the gas engine is much noisier while in charge mode I’ve noticed.
@@TheCarCareNut has anyone with a 2020/2021 RAV4 had any issues with the traction control lights coming on, along with the ABS brakes coming on while breaking coming off the highway? Slowing down from 55 down to 25 on the exit ramps. Roads are normal, not wet or slippery. Just paved dry roads with a few bumps and tiny pot holes here and there. Nothing crazy. My 2014 Camry SE HYBRID never has this issue when I come off the highway. Is this normal??.
@@AveiroDan I had something like that happen just once on dry pavement when I went over a super small bump in the road. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Weird. My gut is telling me that Toyota has their ABS programmed with too much sensitivity. I have driven GMs, Fords, other Toyotas, Subarus, VWs and Porsches. The Germans dial in their ABS very well. I have hammered on the brakes in my RAV4 Prime at highway speed with lots of confidence. My Prius Prime pleasantly surprised me with its strong braking as well.
Since it is poassible to charge the battery using the engine, is the battery bi directional? Can it be used to power load or the house in case of power disruption? Is there a need a Vto L adapter included in the charger package?
Hey AMD! First off…really appreciate your channel. I just bought a Rav4 Prime and loving it so far. Do you know if the catalytic converter is easily accessible? Wondering if Toyota has taken steps to deter theft. Thanks for your input!
Thank you! It’s out in the open but not the easiest to access honestly. Somewhat similar to a regular RAV4 and I haven’t seen any of those with thefts yet
What was actually done to repair the dc to dc converter in the recall 23tb07 for the RAV4 Prime? There was a risk of fire issue. Great channel, I subscribe, thanks.
Hi! Overall cleanliness inside and out. Don’t leave food and especially dog food inside. Keep the cowl clean and the engine bay clean. Also spray some mint around the engine bay which deters them
I hope they reserved enough capacity for the battery to wear. From my research on EVs, (Excluding Nissan Leaf, that is a special case) you want to keep the battery between 20% and 80% capacity most of the time. That is one of the reasons I decided to skip the PHEV generation completely. I'm sure Toyota's engineers have thought this through much better then Mitsubishi, Kia and MG (among some others that are for sale in my country) Excellent content as always, can't wait for more. I hope you can do a video on the Lexus ux300e some day.
@@NatureLover-ey5ub that's actually good. Much better then I thought. That and the fact it has no DC charging might mean the battery can life for a good 15 years at least.
Another quick question. My battery tester lets me know what % I have left in my vehicle batteries. (My Tundra has a 3-year old battery that's at 70% so I'm keeping an eye on it.) Do we have any way to see the health on those big EV batteries? My wife's 2017 Prius used to get 60 mpg but getting 55 mpg now so I'm wondering about the batteries.
May the Lord continue to Bless you and keep you too. Congratulations on the 100K achievement. Is there a reason Toyota can't get higher power output on the normal hybrids?
AMD...a big congratulations on the 100K plus subscribers. Always enjoy your vids. Enjoying and learning something new is always a positive outcome. Thanks for explaining the DC to DC converter and the fact that these hybrid batteries are sealed very well. With that in mind...I guess I'm still thinking the "old fashioned way". Would you even consider applying Rustoleum "Rustproofing" underneath the vehicle or some undercoating. Like applying a coat of wax on the paint now and then to preserve it....thought maybe the same for underneath. Just want to take care of my Optimus Prime. Take care and stay safe. JT
Love your videos. I still didn't hear from you about this-- Can I charge my 2021. Rav 4 Prime in my garage? Is it better to have the garage door opened a couple of feet with a strong fan moving air around the car??
It’s very possible and it would then drive like a conventional RAV4 hybrid with more power. But if that’s the case I would opt out for a regular RAV4 hybrid
Hi AMD, just recently found your youtube channel as we are doing research for new rav4 and highlander, love your videos. specially related to toyota. my wife and i both have toyota, mine is highlander 02 with 269000 km and my wife rav4 07 with 245000km. i used to be transmission mechanic so i do most of the service myself. looking to upgrade to newer highlander hybrid models and rav4 prime. are they ok for doing DIY oil changes? and question 2, are they ok to have 2nd set of snow tires with spare rims? any issues or can newer model toyota can have 2 set of tire rims with air pressure sensors? i am guessing the snow tires will lower the gas miles on both right?
I'm curious as to what the 2024 Rav4 Prime XSE with Premium Package 12V battery normal parasitic current drain should be after the car is off more than 1 hour? I measured mine today 6/26/2024 (2024 model bought new in Dec of 2023) and it was stable at 105 milliamps after 1 hour 10 minutes (verified all lights in the car were off by observing it in a pitch black garage). Does that seem normal? Reason I ask is I am adding a dashcam which I have measured at 182 milliamps in parking mode (the dashcam has both a timer setting which I currently have set at 3 hours and a voltage monitor I set to turn off if below 12 V, so whichever occurs first will turn off the camera) and wanted to get an idea of how long I could actually reasonably run it in parking mode off the 12V battery?
Hi. How does the charging work when power is out un expectedly. Do you have to do a hand shake plug in or does clear from the app or does it continue to cahrge
I bought a Camry hybrid and i get so tired of people saying why didn't you just buy a tesla and I say i want a car that is still serviceable in 20 years that isn't over complicated. Looking at that prime battery it's very serviceable as with all the electronic components looks like a mad science experiment that has been clean up i don't recommend just diving into the electronic but I'm sure a technician can have an answer quickly
I hear you. I think Tesla’s concept is good and their technology is awesome. But as a car company in this auto industry there are some question marks. You did good with your camry hybrid. Tried and true and holds its value super well if you ever decide to make a change in the future you won’t loose
My friend, you are amazing. You are generous, you are an excellent teacher. And as I have had the occasion to say, you are so good even I think I am capable of performing (oil change, other interventions you teach...) Yes, I was convinced, I would observe the 8000km limit between oil changes... and make sure to let the ICE motor run for a tank a week, not plugging in a Prius / RAV Prime otherwise creating problems with the "innards" for lack of lubrication... so I am buying a Tesla. Thank you for so much excellent work, it really convinced me that "I'm too old" to be a slave to OIL anymore. Thank you for your continued expositions of quality ICE information.
I I own a rav 4 prime and am concerned about having a full electric charge, driving down the road at 70mph, and the battery runs out and switch to hybrid mode, should I be concerned about the engine all of a sudden going from 0 to 2500rpm, or whatever rpm’s it jumps to. I always let a car warm for 30 secs or so before taking off.
Really enjoy and value your videos on the RAAV4 Prime. Understand the charging schedule, but it is not as flexible as it should be to allow for time of day electric rates. Question assume a 120 V charging connection and its appx. 12.5 hours to obtain a full charge. Further assume that you set the charging schedule to be ready at 5 AM which implies a 4:30 PM starting time. However, I would like to understand what would happen if you plug the charge cord at 8 PM which means that only 9 hours are in front of the 5 AM start time. Will it stop charging at 5 AM? Obviously I understand that the unit will not be fully charge (appx. 75%) Thanks for your input.
QUESTION: I have had the R4Prime now for a little over a year, and I just crossed 4K miles. So, I don't really drive a lot anymore (thanks to Covid I work from home now). Basically, the car sits with zero charge unless I know that I'm going somewhere. Is that bad? They say don't keep it at 100% charge, but is zero charge also not good? Should I try to maintain 50% charge?
Great video! I have a charging question that has not been answered anywhere. Next month we are ordering a 2022 RAV4 Prime XSE Premium. I’m going to purchase and install a hardwired 220 volt charger in our garage to handle daily charging. When I visit my son 2 states away can I also purchase a 110 volt plug-in charger to use in his garage even though it might take way longer to charge? I hope this makes sense.
Did you not watch the video?? Don’t be stupid!! This is NOT a Tesla!!!!! It comes with its own charger, which is the only one that should be ever used. All you need to provide is an electrical outlet. Period!!!!🤦♂️
Question, i ordered a rav 4 prime is arriving soon is the 2022 version, should i wait to buy better the 2023? Please advice and thank you for your time
I sent an email to Carcarenut asking about the Toyota battery charging algorithm. When the battery is at 100% is that 100% of the 18kw or 100% of the usable 14kw? Longevity studies suggest not charging over 80% and less is better combined with no deep discharges.
What is the best way to find a rattle? 2021 RAV4 Prime. 3 days old. Rattle is somewhere near driver side A pillar, speedometer instrument panel, steering wheel column. Rattle is high-pitched, 1-2 seconds in length and is active when going over rougher pavement or lane reflectors. Thank you.
Hi! First is the pressure test. As you drive put pressure on each of the panels you mentioned until it changes, gets worse or goes away. Then remove that panel and see if it goes away. If it does insulate the connection points and you’re good.
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you. As best as I can tell, it is coming from steering wheel area, probably the 2nd piece in not counting the horn. It sure sounded like it was coming from the A-pillar base area but pressure testing indicates otherwise. Thank you for your quick reply and great TH-cam content.
@@johncrump328 Hey John, a fellow Rav4 Prime driver here....not sure if you found the rattle or not. But for me...I actually found a "Technician's pry-type tool" inside the rear driver side panel. When I was taking it off to install a rear tailgate switch to run the wire towards the 120v plug by the rear passenger side, I found it as I took the panel off. WOW...I was surprised. Guess as it goes through the assembly line with the fast paces and repetitive assembly line, the person just forgot about it. It didn't cause any damage or anything. But just a first time I've ever seen it. So maybe in your case, an assembly line worker might have dropped or left behind something in one of the A pillars or door panels maybe. Good luck buddy. Can you do a video on using Techstream to check hybrid battery health. Ie. graphing min and max voltage blocks by charging and discharging the battery?
Thank you! I wanted to bridge the gap between dealership technicians and owners/diy mechanics. The ultimate goal was provide advice direct from real world experience.
Thank you for another educational & informative video!! Being the 2021 Venza, 2022 Lexus NX and the RAV4 sharing the same platform, is the Venza's battery also resides on the outside of the chassis and fully sealed "air-tight"?
Have you done a video on the RAV4 battery recall? I tried replacing the stock battery of a 2014 RAV4 Limited with a new stock Toyota battery, but the new one was not the same height as the old one. I put the battery on the counter in the Toyota Parts Department to show him and he said that the new one IS the correct one. WRONG!
I love your videos. You are explaining so many tech little details that no one is doing on other chanels. Can I ask a question about regenerative braking power limits? If you will go down on rav4 prime from a very high hill for very long time. Do you also can charge the battery up to 80 % like in combation engine mode by the button near the shifter? I have seen videos with a prius hev where the battery becomes full so fast on big hills. Also I have seen a tesla video where a dude charged 14kwt just by regenerative coasting from very high hills. Can rav4 prime do the same With his big plug-in battery?
I would be interested in his opinion on the issue with the 12v system of these plug in and evs seem to be a common problem with phev and evs for some reason.
I having issues finding places to charge my prime. I live in a condo complex and no capabilities of charging at home. Was thinking about purchasing a jackery 1500 and configuring it to be able to charge it for the 4-5 miles at a time. It could get me to another spot to charge it elsewhere. Your thoughts
When the car tells us that it is charging at 100%, what is the actual battery charging value. Is it harmful to leave the car plugged in for 24 hours or more?
If you have the car idling with the motor on, how long would it take for a depleted battery to fully charge using the engines power and regen? Also, can you have the car plugged in while doing this to accelerate charge time?
Thank you for all of your great videos, I've learned so much from them. I just purchased a 2021 RAV4 Prime in Portland, Oregon as they don't sell the Primes in Washington State yet. How do I find a dealership (in the Olympia or Tacoma area) that has a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician that is certified to service the RAV4 Prime?
Hi! Dealerships that sell a RAV4 prime will have technicians trained to work on them. You’ll only need this specific technician for diagnosis and heavy repair not for simple maintenance
Regarding the Rav4 prime, I've heard from comments made that it is better to do an overnight charge of around12 hours of gradual charging as this will increase the lifespan of the battery as opposed to high power quick charge of 2 or 4 hours. Is there any truth in this? Would love to know your thoughts. Regards Robert Riva.
Thank you AMD for all your great work and info. I'm awaiting a Prime in less than a Month now. If I were interested in installing an Hour counter that counts only when the ICE engine is running, do you have a suggestion where I could tap into 12v to trigger the hour counter?

Congratulations on 100k subscribers!!! This is just the start to a great channel.
Thank you!
This is my first go to place for info.
Ken
Congrats on 100k subscribers. What a grand time to learn about Toyota from you. Thanks so much. Many blessings.
Thank you!
Thanks for all your videos about toyota,it really helped me a lot.pls post more videos about 2021 xse camry.thank you again
Learning that these vehicles now retailing for $100k in the US which is insane!
Hello 👋, splendid video. Love the detailed explanation. If you drive the rav4 prime without ever plugging in - will all Hybrid/AWD features work?
Daniel.
Thank you daniel! Squeaks like that can be hard to find but don’t give up on the dealership they will eventually find it
I would love some more videos about the primes vehicles. I recently purchased a RAV4 Prime.
This video just makes me more excited for the upcoming hybrids. Like the tundra and the 4runner. If they can do all this with a RAV4 imagine what they can do with those.
Tundra Hybrid will be the ultimate test for hybrid. Lets see what they do with that.
I haven’t seen a setting to limit the charging other than charge mode which does charge to 80%
Good to know information. Not what you'd see in the owner's manual, but not as in depth as "Service Information."
Tacoma 2019 the engine is noisy Sometimes people say that is injector cleaner Process tha is true ?? Thank you for you make all the videos very 😊
Hi! The engine is loud because of the direct injectors and that’s normal.
Do you recommend waiting until the electric battery is depleted fully before recharging the RAV4 Prime battery? Or can you “top it off” and plug in after doing a short errand so you always have it at peak capacity?
Hi! I would deplete it fully before charging
Hi! Up to 84mph is what’s listed but it’s not recommended because as you mentioned it becomes counter productive
Hi! I haven’t seen or heard any issues on that. However one thing that causes this is uneven tire pressure or even very high tire pressure
@@TheCarCareNut great, I’ll go check the pressure now!
Thank you!!!
Btw: in Canada -SE and XSE comes standard with Large 6.6kW charger
Interesting. Wish that was the case in the US
Same in Norway
Now I need to find out in UK
Nice video. Thank you AMD. Looking forward for next one.
100K 🎉 🎊 been waiting for this!!!! Congrats....
Thank you my brother!
AMD, Great content! Do you recommend anything to deter rodent from the Toyota? Rodent appears to love to chew on the cables.
I'm sure Toyota's engineers have thought this through much better then Mitsubishi, Kia and MG (among some others that are for sale in my country)
Excellent content as always, can't wait for more.
I hope you can do a video on the Lexus ux300e some day.
For Rav4 Prime only 13.3% to 90.6% of battery capacity is available.
@@NatureLover-ey5ub that's actually good. Much better then I thought. That and the fact it has no DC charging might mean the battery can life for a good 15 years at least.
@@dgurevich1 I guess this is the reason that Toyota could provide 10years/150,000 miles battery warranty.
Honestly many will debate this but officially there’s no accurate way to know the health of the high voltage battery
AMD, You have reached 100K Subscribers!!!!! It is official :D
Thank you! I still can’t believe it!
@@TheCarCareNut Your modesty and expertise are the keys to your success.
May the Lord continue to Bless you and keep you too. Congratulations on the 100K achievement. Is there a reason Toyota can't get higher power output on the normal hybrids?
Thank you Brian! They don’t want to push the engines then they start consuming gas and at some point it becomes counter productive
@@TheCarCareNut AMD, Did you hear they are using the Highlander Hybrid powertrain on the new Lexus NX?
Excellent explanation.
JT
Hi! Thank you! I would still consider rust proofing if you live in the rust belt. Even though they are covered and made better but still it would help
Love your videos. I still didn't hear from you about this-- Can I charge my 2021. Rav 4 Prime in my garage? Is it better to have the garage door opened a couple of feet with a strong fan moving air around the car??
Congrats on the 100k!!!! Happy for you.
Thank you!
Congrats on the 100K!!! Great content as always!
Thank you Travis!
Question. Does the car still have 302 hp after the EV range has depleted? Or is that a separate battery that has its own HP rating.
Thank you for you vid AMD. Is it possible to drive the car entirely on gas? My electricity is quite expensive. Is it worth it to drive that way?
It’s very possible and it would then drive like a conventional RAV4 hybrid with more power. But if that’s the case I would opt out for a regular RAV4 hybrid
@@TheCarCareNut thank you so much for the response AMD! Been a fan since you started.
Hi AMD,
just recently found your youtube channel as we are doing research for new rav4 and highlander, love your videos. specially related to toyota. my wife and i both have toyota, mine is highlander 02 with 269000 km and my wife rav4 07 with 245000km. i used to be transmission mechanic so i do most of the service myself. looking to upgrade to newer highlander hybrid models and rav4 prime. are they ok for doing DIY oil changes?
and question 2, are they ok to have 2nd set of snow tires with spare rims? any issues or can newer model toyota can have 2 set of tire rims with air pressure sensors? i am guessing the snow tires will lower the gas miles on both right?
I just want a Prime of some sort in my later future. RAV4 or not. Toyota 4 Life!
Prius prime
Hi! In that case it will continuously charge until you unplug it because it hasn’t reached fully charged
Hi! Keeping it at low charge is preferred. Fully charged and not driven is not advised for long term health of the battery

Very good video! I just wish these cars were easier to find.
Take care and stay safe.

Rav 4 prime does it charge when it running on Highway or local except wall charger. ?
I having issues finding places to charge my prime. I live in a condo complex and no capabilities of charging at home. Was thinking about purchasing a jackery 1500 and configuring it to be able to charge it for the 4-5 miles at a time. It could get me to another spot to charge it elsewhere. Your thoughts
when you use the engine to charge the battery is there a significant hit the fuel economy vs not charging it?
When the car tells us that it is charging at 100%, what is the actual battery charging value. Is it harmful to leave the car plugged in for 24 hours or more?
If you have the car idling with the motor on, how long would it take for a depleted battery to fully charge using the engines power and regen? Also, can you have the car plugged in while doing this to accelerate charge time?

I just purchased a 2021 RAV4 Prime in Portland, Oregon as they don't sell the Primes in Washington State yet. How do I find a dealership (in the Olympia or Tacoma area) that has a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician that is certified to service the RAV4 Prime?
Hi! Dealerships that sell a RAV4 prime will have technicians trained to work on them. You’ll only need this specific technician for diagnosis and heavy repair not for simple maintenance
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you for your response. Once again, I highly appreciate your videos!
Hi! Your best option is to utilize the charging schedule. using the charge soon after it’s fully charged Is best for the battery longevity
Thank you AMD for all your great work and info. I'm awaiting a Prime in less than a Month now. If I were interested in installing an Hour counter that counts only when the ICE engine is running, do you have a suggestion where I could tap into 12v to trigger the hour counter?
