b pavilion I used the Epsom Salt with fragrance oil from my soaps & it made my clothes softer than without it plus they smell better than vinager. So, it worked for me. I really noticed the difference in my towels. So, I guess it works different for other people.

Epsom salts contain magnesium which is one of the major minerals in hard water. What's happening is you're making your water hard or harder. I use coarse kosher salt or non iodized table salt.

I add the same essential oil to my wool dryer balls. I just want my clothes clean, fresh and soft. I wear fragrance so I don't want laundry scents to clash with it. I hope this helps. 😃

I make my own laundry soap, and I do add the scent Crystal's which are Epsomsalts with a nice scent. So, this might be an added boost of freshness and softness. Thank you!

Here's my recipe. It makes a very large batch, 2 large 5 gallon buckets full of the powder form. Then I make a few gallons of liquid form laundry as needed. You can reduce the recipe as you like. Ingredients: 7 bars Fels Naphtha 3 bars Zote soap 2 lbs Baking Soda 2 Boxes Super Washing Soda (55oz boxs) 2 boxes Borax Laundry Booster (4lb. Boxs) 2 boxes OxyClean (3lbs boxes) 3 to 5 bottles Scent boosters (Salt Crystal type, not the waxy circles) Directions 1: Grate up bar soap. Mix with all other ingredients. Run through food processor to make smaller bits. Put into 5 gallon bucket(s) w lid, or your choice. Directions 2: In lg pot add 1 gallon water (I use an empty laundry soap, or orange juice etc jug, fill that with hot water, then add to pot, to get exact jug amount. Add ½ cup dry soap mix and bring to a boil until all dry mixture is dissolved, while stirring. Then remove from hot burner, let cool slightly, and pour into your jug. You can add about a spoon of liquid glycerin (which will help it stay mixed). It slightly gels and you will need to shake the bottle before use. I just love this mixture. I'll have soap for many many years to come from this. You can also reduce the bars of soap if you like. Fels Naptha is great for stains, and Zote has citronella which helps keeping mosquitoes away. Crystal scent beads are made from Epsom salt and is a water softener (the other waxy ones may clog up washer). Kimono Snail I’ve noticed it definitely softens the clothes. The smell isn’t as strong as commercial softeners, but you aren’t getting the toxins from the synthetic fragrance or exposure to all of the bad ingredients. Plus, it is so much cheaper!
I have a question.. can some of the essential oils cause a fire in the dryer.. and if I have grey water will it kill my plants.. I’m new at this trying to be mindful with the planet..

Essential oils won't cause your dryer to burn. Plants may be affected by grey water
