There is absolutely no one better at playing that high lonesome sound than John Starling and Seldom Scene. For that matter, no one in music played as tight or sung as true as the Scene. Fare thee well men.
Wow These guys were the real deal ,they were icons there sound and unique style was in a league alone . Awesome just poetry in motion !!!!! Dammit why do people have to get old and die . I was just glad I got too witness such talent (just makes you appreciate artist and there incredible talents)
Great example of versatility within a genre - so great that the genre expands- Starling to Rosenthal to Starling to Reid to Connell - all excellent & all serious contributors with their own skills - yet able to do skillfully the entire SS challenging repetoire. Just cant be better. Tks gentlemen.
He saved my life. He was a doctor and he took a tumor out of my head. I knew him for years and he never acted like a star, he acted like a country doctor.
Really nice. It's great rediscovering Seldom Scene after more than 30 years. Saw them in Glen Rock PA at the amazing Gon' Fishin' Festival in Sept. 1977.
I don't think Phil was lost. Starling shows why he's EmmyLou's favorite singer. John got this from Merle. No disrespect to The Hag, but Starling does it better (I love the Lisner recording, with Mike on Sho-Bud instead of Dobro)

This Is The BEST Bluegrass Band In History of This Type Music!!!!💞
God is assembling a great band in Heaven. Rest in Peace John Starling, Mike Aldridge, and John Duffey.
Brilliant.....wonderful Dobro.

I used to go and see them every wed.at the Birchmil in Alexandria VA
Hey, that's cool. My nephew used to play there with his band for ROAM fests. He's in college out in Montana now.
I saw them most weeks at The Red Fox Inn in Bethesda. Early 70’s.
Starling just nails this one with Duffy on the high part. A great version of a great song.
I miss John Duffy.........This is one of my favorite song...Thanks for sharing!
This is my favorite version of this song.
God bless dearly departed Duffy.......
I am a weary traveler too.

John flying out among the stars rip
Seldome Scene was the best when Starling was with them.
There was none better.
*Was the best example of total musicianship, vocal harmony, and stage presence, in all of history regardless of genre.
Still love Duff! It's amazing how these guys keep going, even with different people.
I agree, Starling Was "THE" fit for the scene. The original line up was one of the Best in bluegrass.Doesn't get much better than that !!!!!
a tip: you can watch series at flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Vicente Cason Yea, have been watching on Flixzone for since december myself :)
Really nice.

Great performance.
tear-jerker
Written by the Canadian singer/songwriter, Adam Mitchell, who also penned 'French Waltz, Dancin' 'Round and 'Round and many other classic tunes.
I had only heard Waylon Jennings do this song... Cool!
Howdy papajoe!
Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash each did a version too.
You should hear Darrell Scott's version of this as well. He starts it out with Farther Along for the first 30 seconds then kicks into this.
@@dandean6712 Darrell Scott's is my favorite of this great song.
My favorite lineup.
Mine too.
Whoever said this is a better version of the hags version Should Seriously Get a Hearing Test.
Phil is not "lost" he is in the background out of respect to Starling and the original line up!!!!!
rothvoss farm I miss those days
This was in Duanesburg, NY, not Ancramdale @ Rothvoss Farm

RIP John Starling
He was a really good guy. I knew him for years and he never bragged about being a star. He was just a country doctor.
