‘Jungleland’ is absolutely one of the greatest songs ever written. Perhaps the best in Springsteen’s entire catalogue. Glad to hear Charlie giving it some props here!
Totally agree. Jungleland is the song I want to hear for the last 9 minutes 38 seconds or so of my life. Such a beautiful song. Massive kudos to Charlie.
@@WakaWaka2468 basic to play and basic to compose are two very different things. Don’t convince yourself that being able to play a composers music puts you on their level. You may be able to play these songs. We call can. Being able to understand why a composer selected their notes, voicings, substititions, etc. is entirely different.
Charlie is such a gifted musician, you can tell he lives and breathes it. Elton has some bangers, Mona Lisa’s and Mad Hatters is incredible, Funeral for a Friend also
His recall is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! For me - less of the vocal tremolo. Incredible music technician, analyst and song writer. Easy all-time top ten. Thank you for sharing!
I just decided the other day that Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me was probably my favorite Elton John song. Love his choices here as a huge Springsteen and Billy Joel fan as well.
He has many bangers in every album of his. His catalogue is so huge its hard to choose the best song. For example he's got Indian sunset, tonight, Carla etude, etc. His deep cuts are underrated.
Hearing Charlie play Billy Joel songs makes my heart burst with all the feels. If he ever covered Billy Joel album or songs I would die of happiness. I am in my 30s, but I grew up with a dad who adored Billy Joel‘s music (my dad has played piano and guitar as a hobby since he was 15, and I grew up hearing him sing and play All About Soul, Angry Young Man and Summer, Highland Falls on the piano at home many evenings). My parents actually used to get into little tips about how often my dad was playing the piano and my mom needed his help with my three siblings and me 🤣. I know Charlie‘s entire discography, and Billy Joel’s like the back of my hand (I don’t have many peers my age who know and love Billy Joel‘s music aside from Piano Man or We Didn’t Start the Fire. Just saw Charlie in DC at the Warner Theater on 10/30, and he is so unbelievably talented. The combination of Charlie and Billy Joel would just blow my mind emotionally. The first song I ever learned the words to and sang out loud aside from a nursery rhyme was “I Go To Extremes” from a carseat at age 3. Charlie, you’re awesome! And Howard for connecting with and supporting such great artists over the years.
Ok, Charlie I'm gonna give your albums a listen since you're in tune with classic music from the 70's and 80's...music that existed before you were born. I've always liked some of your songs but I will give your whole albums a listen starting with your debut. You're amazing on the piano.
When my kids are in control of the dial and a Charlie Puth song comes on the radio, I always notice the transition. I feel like they should precede his songs with an announcement: "we interrupt the mindless drivel that dominates modern pop to bring you a tune by someone who can actually write songs." I am not at all surprised to learn that Puth has been influenced by these other great songwriters. Musically he is in a different tier from most of the other songwriters getting airplay these days.
I first became a kinda charlie fan, and then George michael (mega)fan, and when Charlie mentioned George, I was so excited. I honestly didn't know George had inspired Charlie
Listening to Charlie discuss music and lyrics and seeing how lit up he is…is sheer joy for him and for us. And when he learns something new, the penny drops and keeps spinning…🇳🇿🇳🇿🐑🐑NZ
Howard is a phenomenal interviewer. He can get anyone to open up, and here, in the spirit of Larry King, he says so little to give the guest the space to shine. Larry King always said the problem with interviewers is their own egos. They talk too much. Howard has really honed this skill as he matured. He has brought so much dimension to guests that are often seen as one dimensional. This is an example. Harry Styles another. But there are soooo many others.
Freedom '94 has some amazing piano parts. George always found the best musicians. He was an amazing writer too. Hand to Mouth, Praying for Time, Father Figure...etc. As for Elton, "Funeral for a Friend" is his Bohemian Rhapsody his symphonic masterpiece. Incredibly powerful licks. Ok with Jungleland for Springsteen. And you could pick several from Billy, but mostly in his younger days. Most artists produce their best stuff early in their careers because they are songs they have worked on for years. .
On Charlie's album called Voicenotes there is a collaboration with James Taylor in a song called "Change". It was composed by Charlie but has totally a James Taylor sound to it. Wonder song.
The best Billy Joel song to me is, New York State of Mind and Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, Leace a Tender Moment Alone. Elton John to me is, Yellow Brick Road, Bennie and the Jets, Sacrifice. They both have amazing songs, but the pianos in these make the songs something unique. George Michael/Wham! Everything She Wants, Father Figure, Freedom.
1:40 100٪ agree with him! Th version with George Michael is just perfect! I can't even listen to the original version of the song cuz the live one is just too good!!
I could watch Charlie breaking down songs for hours.
agree !
For real...
How can we make this a thing???
Yes!!! 🙌🏼
‘Jungleland’ is absolutely one of the greatest songs ever written. Perhaps the best in Springsteen’s entire catalogue. Glad to hear Charlie giving it some props here!
Totally agree
I got chills just listening to him play the intro.
No question about it…
I wish he would've mentioned Vienna by William Joel
Totally agree. Jungleland is the song I want to hear for the last 9 minutes 38 seconds or so of my life. Such a beautiful song. Massive kudos to Charlie.
It is incredible how Charlie has complete command of the piano. Like an artist with a brush.....just genius.
Well he is an artist.
It's basic stuff

@@WakaWaka2468 lets not forget he also went to school for music
He's amazing!
Kudos to him for being one of the few mainstream artists whose musical skill and knowledge is so deep.
Although he did choose their most famous songs. For it to be truly deep I need some under-the-radar masterpieces.
@@thejason347Absolutely correct on most but Long ago and far away is not one of James Taylor’s most famous songs
Great call :)
Really dug this segment. Charlie is a talented dude and I love that he has reverence for these other great artists.
Ditto
One of the best interviews of Charlie Puth, asking actual questions beyond his perfect pitch. Well done Howard
Eugh. So true. All the other interviews feel like the equivalence of someone asking a colour blind person what colours things are.
I really appreciate that Charlie is such a true lover of music
Dude has mad talent.
…and perfect pitch too! 😉😊
Charlie is such a gifted musician, you can tell he lives and breathes it. Elton has some bangers, Mona Lisa’s and Mad Hatters is incredible, Funeral for a Friend also
Do you have anything growing in your backyard?
You can just tell how much Charlie loves and is in love with music. I love watching him. All of these interview clips are amazing.
There’s nothing more peaceful than watching Charlie play the piano
James Taylor, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young = Musical Prophets
WOW What a memory to just recall these songs out of the blue.. Incredible.
Can you imagine a tour where he just does this? Can this be a thing please??
His recall is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! For me - less of the vocal tremolo. Incredible music technician, analyst and song writer. Easy all-time top ten. Thank you for sharing!
Yep, Charlie admits he is not a great singer but his strength has always been sheer musicianship and songwriting.
Charlie's interviews are always masterclass
The audio mix is ridiculously good
Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, piano is unreal
Also Mona Lisa’s and Mad Hatter’s
I could watch this guy all day! Amazing vocabulary of music in that brain!
This kid is a genius! I just became an instant fan!
I just decided the other day that Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me was probably my favorite Elton John song. Love his choices here as a huge Springsteen and Billy Joel fan as well.
Finally! Someone agrees with me that "Don't let the sun go down on me" is Elton's greatest song.
i agree with you too! mona lisa’s in #2 for me
Your Song his best for me.
He has many bangers in every album of his. His catalogue is so huge its hard to choose the best song. For example he's got Indian sunset, tonight, Carla etude, etc. His deep cuts are underrated.
I especially love Daniel, the melody is special. How can we choose, Elton, Billy and The Boss have so many spectacular songs!
When you realize how much of a genius Howard is for allowing Charlie to display his genius
Lmao Howard sitting there knowing he’s just playing and testing his knowledge of music 😂 thank you for letting him show off we love it!!👐🏼
I couldn’t stop listening to this interview yesterday
His love of music makes me so happy, it’s beautiful.
I want an album of these songs, he's incredibly talented. Truely one in a million talent.
This should be a series of artists doing this Breaking down their fav songs
Knowledgeable, skilled and talented in all his genres. Cool, calm and collected in his chosen music
Charlie is a freak of nature. What he does with music is just hard to comprehend
To hear him talk so passionately about songs that were popular before he was born. I’m really impressed.

Endless talent!! I could listen to Charlie playing that piano and jamming all day 🤩
That piece......Jungleland!!!.I tear up everytime!!

Omg. Bang on. Those fingers on the keys
I could listen to Charlie play different songs for hours!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
OMG this is the most emotional I've ever been listening to charlie and I know all his songs
I first became a kinda charlie fan, and then George michael (mega)fan, and when Charlie mentioned George, I was so excited. I honestly didn't know George had inspired Charlie
I wish he’d do a piano cover album- that’d be amazing
no artist can relate. he's unique. what a genius.

Charlie went to Berklee but even without that he is one of the best artists of our time.
He breathes music, it's amazing! Could have watched this video for 2 hours!
I think he's the best musician artist in the world at the moment❤️💯
Charlie is so talented. This should have a million views
Charlie has a great recall for music history. Didn’t know that about George. Genius
He needs to do a cover album of the songs on this clip.
Omg yes!!
Fascinating. I love hearing Charlie break a song down to sections/parts...brilliant.
This is very captivating. He could do a live tour like this
Charlie will have a career in music, front or behind, as long as he continues to breathe.
A young man with an old soul. And he picked my favorite JT song and gave the shout out to Joni. He could have been born in the 60s.
So good. I’m by no means a Charlie Puth fan, don’t know his music at all, but man he’s got some chops.
Talented musician and writer❤️
“ticking” is, in my opinion, elton’s greatest piano work
Charlie reminded me of some of my best songs when i was young and he played the piano so well, thanx a lot.
charlie spot on , getting JUNGLELAND chills right now
I loved this interview. Totally cool for musicians
Charlie talking about George Michael, I’m here for that ❤️
I could watch him talk about music all day. I love Charlie Puth.
2:01 love this chords coming home!

The taste 🤌 And obviously really talented as well
God I could listen to this guy walk me through music with his piano all day.
Charlie is a great musician ❤
Totally agree with him that “don’t let the sun go down on me” is one of Elton’s greatest. It’s so emotional
I started tearing during that Springsteen run.
George Michael one of the best to ever do it👏🏻
It's so obvious when Howard truly respects a guest. He shuts his yap and actually listens.
He's so talented.
I love Charlie! I'm obsessed and believe he will be the next huge star! The man is truly gifted.
I think this is actually sour shoes. All these years in the phone it’s good to finally see you in the studio.
In a world full of Gen Y&Z crappy music Charlie is one of the rare few who shines like a diamond. They should follow his lead!
james taylor melodies are instantly recognisable

Super talented young man
I'd pay for CP doing a cover album.
My favorite? All Billy joel catalogue .... Piano Man ha tutti gioielli nel suo repertorio... 👏🎹
Such a talent
Geez this dude is crazy talented. A true artist.
His influences are my influences. But I can't play music. It just lives inside me, paying rent by inspiring me.
Charlie puth just won over an entire generation
1:40 100٪ agree with him! Th version with George Michael is just perfect! I can't even listen to the original version of the song cuz the live one is just too good!!
wow. i'm speechless. what a talent.
officially in love ❤❤❤
Charlie is so freaking cool… a true musician and so low key
“where am i gonna be in the 80s?” 🤣🤣🤣 he’s so good omg
This leaves me speechless.
Impressive interview Charlie
Amazing how much I agree with Charlie
Charlie is insanely talented
Gonna need one of these every week
Mad skills I can watch this all day
