- Play FM23 in a brand new way! In this series I'm going to show you what it's like to play Football Manager as the Director of Football.
Fresh off a successful stint at Everton, Kirk Sheridan has moved to Germany and taken on the challenge of lifting Borussia Dortmund back to the summit of European Football. New club, new rebuild, new Assistant Manager, same moneyball rules.
Let's make it the best adventure yet.

Director of Moneyball | Episode 1 | Borussia Dortmund
As the Director of Football, I'm doing this the hard way:
No match tactics
No team selection
No training
No team talks
All of that will be left to my staff. Scouting, recruitment, data analysis, unearthing bargains and embedding a club DNA - that's my job here.
And to help us complete this total rebuild, we will be applying the Nine Rules of Moneyball:
1. Promote youth ahead of transfers
2. Only buy players aged 20-25, with decent data sample size
3. Shop outside the usual markets - transfer listed and out of contract players, low reputation leagues
4. Improve defence before attack
5. Always improve the weakest area of the team first
6. Don't buy strikers unless absolutely necessary
7. Sell players at their peak age
8. Always be scouting for replacements
9. Sell any player if a club offers more than they are worth

I've had a really shit day in a really shit week, seeing a new Moneyball drop puts me at 99% happiness, hearing Kirk refer to me as a 'Most Excellent Friend' pushes it up to 100%.
Great to have the series back, excited to see how things develop with Dortmund, I'm guessing it will mirror real life very well considering Dortmund operate on a very similar system in real life, sign low, sell high!

Why don’t you try to offer them out again for higher prices? The rules of moneyball don’t state that you can’t negociate… 😅
Speed is of the essence! If I had a full window I would haggle more but I want to ship out the old guard as quick as possible so the new younger players don't rely on their leadership. I negotiated where I could - Vieira to Bayern was 8m up on the Juve offer - but given how empty the scouting centre was i definitely put my focus on finding new signings this summer! One DoF can only do so much 🤣
This is going to be a nice challenge , new AssMan new formation new tatic , this is one of the Oldest squads I see almost Barcelona like
Yes, this one may take a while! I've focused on the 30+ group so far but possibly a few 27+ to move on before the window closes
