  • Here it is: our first drive of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton mid-size ute/pick-up. The long-awaited next-generation model is a significant one for the Japanese brand, as it looks to make up ground lost to the newer Ford Ranger/Volkswagen Amarok and Isuzu D-Max/Mazda BT-50 twins.
    So, what does the redesigned Triton bring to the table? Well, it takes Mitsubishi's tried and true formula to the next level with a series of significant upgrades, with none larger than the introduction of a twin-turbo version of the familiar 2.4-litre diesel four-cylinder engine.
    In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis drives a prototype of the new Triton to find out if its 150kW of power (+17kW) and 470Nm of torque (+40Nm) have been worth waiting for. He also deep-dives its trick Super Select II 4WD system, among other key features.

    Okay then. Don't mind the look of this 4x4 at all. A 2.4 with more everything makes me wonder if the motor will be okay in the long run. Smaller donks seem the trend though, with even Toyota's new Landcruiser going down that track. Looking forward to the full review in 2024. The new Triton has certainly caught my attention. I've just subscribed.

    👍 I drive the MQ and love the car and the engine 4N15, does this car have the same engine with an additional turbo or a completely new engine?
    It would have been nice to put AC vents in the console for the kids in the back, my kids always complaining that it is too hot and not enough AC coming from the front, I don't think the roof fan is going to satisfactory. Would I buy one? YES I would.

      Rear drum brakes are fine, don't have any issue with it. And that Triton transmission is one of the best around, I'll take reliability over an 8-10 speed which is not really necessary.

    • @nicktaylor7680
      @nicktaylor7680 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@roguetrader08 Yes your right disc brakes and 10 speed transmissions are not necessary for going to the supermarket but when towing in steep terrain they are vital.
      All of the dual cab utes except for the new ranger are woefully under braked for their tow ratings not fit for purpose.

    • @roguetrader08
      @roguetrader08 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nicktaylor7680 It's a relatively easy/inexpensive job to upgrade brakes, and all motoring enthusiasts recommend you do so if towing regularly. As you said, this applies to most utes on the market. I'll reserve judgement on the towing capability of the Triton with a 6spd until they can test it properly.

    • @nicktaylor7680
      @nicktaylor7680 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@roguetrader08 swapping out the discs and pads is not really a brake upgrade as you say. It would probably cost 10 grand to do properly. Brake fade when towing down a steep grade tends to give you a different perspective than reserving judgement based on some car reviewers paid for content.

    • @roguetrader08
      @roguetrader08 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Another example of vehicles built for the Phillipines/asian market being flogged in Australia as fantastic. Calling it bigger because its length is 1.5 cm longer and 5 cm wider is nothing short of a joke.
