    Gracias Danny! I have been going around saying “tienes que esto, tienes que eso” but I had a suspicion directly translating from English was not ideal in this situation. It’s “ hay que..” when speaking generally from now on!

    What about necesitar, se necesita? It belongs in this lesson as the mildest form of "have to." Also, tener que is like an imperative in the sense that it pretty much means you have to do it or you better do it for the good of yourself or somebody else. I'm seeing more and more skimpiness as these Spanish lessons progress. A strong grounding in grammar should come first, then examinations of particular difficulties in the language could follow.

  • @rafalg87
    @rafalg87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The "hay que" form was easy for me to understand, which made me think how it works in my language, which is Polish. Apparently we have something similar, a verb that doesn't take a subject. It's actually used just for this one purpose. Languages are weird sometimes.

    Is the pronoun necessary when using tener? I.e., is it okay to say, "Tengo que estudiar"?

    • @gerlautamr.656
      @gerlautamr.656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It isn't necessary, since there isn't any chance of ambiguity."Tengo" only applies to the "yo" form.But it's not incorrect if you use the pronoun, it only sounds a bit unnatural if you use it all the time.

    I’ve used “necesito ir” or “necesito que ir” in the past. Is that improper Spanish?

    • @nelsonrivas7397
      @nelsonrivas7397 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can say "Necesito ir", that's correct. But perhaps it's more common to say "Tengo que ir". Now, If you're going to use "necesitar" you can't insert "que" between "necesitar" and "ir". So, it's incorrect to say "necesito que ir". The right form is "necesito ir". More examples: Necesito dormir (I need to sleep), Necesito trabajar (I need to work), Necesitamos descansar (We need to rest), etc.
