as much as i love the advance tech for modern features in car. Yes toyota's infotech are outdated and slow. But functionalities and convenient buttons where is needed are way more better than every control in the infotech one itself. And haval's infotech isnt that smooths and fast enough though. Still abit laggy and is slow react. No need satellite navigation where is costing more than a phone or tablet itself, since everyone using android auto or apple car play OS app. But no Digital radio is a downside. And i'm sure RAV4 had better audio sound quality than Haval if im not wrong? Haval is certainly a bang for buck but the overall is still not appealing to me. Fuel consumption, suspensions, steering comfort, reliabilities and services, quality of anti rust material body, shifting gear stick, the look of body and conventional buttons RAV4 better. Not to mention you feel more confident on Toyota for longevity than new arrival Haval hybrid. Yes haval price tag is sound great and affordable... but it is what you get for the price tag. So i dont see much different of cost value if base on qualities and comfort comparison between them both in and out.

@@lucky.penguin.slots14 the Rav 4 was approximately $10,000 AUD more but it is also AWD, cheaper model Ravs are the same price as Havel with less equipment. l believe our Rav is worth the extra price as Toyotas hold their value better than any other brand they are also very reliable and you can expect up to 500,000km without major issues. They also have by far the biggest network of dealers in Australia. The cost of servicing id $230 per year for the first 5 years and the battery warranty is 10 years as long as it goes to Toyota every year. I own a Toyota Land Cruiser prado 2009 and a Lexus 2002 and both have been trouble free I know plenty of people getting huge distances from Toyotas. . I know someone who has a business and they own 5 LDV vans, made in China, he has had no end of trouble with them and would never buy another as they have been a disaster with continual break downs that are causing lots of trouble in his courier business..My nephew is a mechanic, a couple of customers own Great Wall Ute's, GWM make Havel. He hates working on the GW Ute's and says they are only designed to last 60,000 km. I know Havel have a 7 year warranty here but there must be suspicion as to how much trouble you will have eventually. Havel have 530 newton metres of torque feeding front wheel drive. I can only imagine how much the traction control would have to work on wet and slippery roads. The Havel looks to be great value for money and would be a good short term purchase however expect ordinary resale value and potential problems if you keep it for many years.
Great comparo! I'm from México; Infortunately, the waiting list for the RAV4 is currently 10 months. I test drove the Haval Hybrid and loced it. I will pick mine ine the next 3-5 days, since it is availability is great Great and concise review, Thanks guys
I’m still waiting for my RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser but in a couple of years I may trade for a Haval. You have to hand it to Haval and China, they are really coming along in leaps and bounds and feel in a couple of years may surpass all the opposition. Well done 👏🏽
@@EXcellentstuFF yes, if the car supports CarPlay or Android Auto, who cares about the built-in nav or digital radio? The old-fashioned infotainment in RAV4 is terribly designed.
I was disappointed that the Haval didn't have DAB but then I realised that phone coverage is better than DAB coverage and virtually every station is available in an app. Sure enough, it works well and I don't miss DAB.
Boys, I'm sorry but you have missed the mark on some of the items You can get DAB on your phone and its not a missed sales point. Haval has Auto-Parking Assist and R4 doesn't. No one uses shitty Sat Nav anymore The H6 Destroys a lot of mid-size SUVs in Hybrid/Fuel mode and you even mentioned in the written review the Haval was @ low 6s Its not a 12-15month wait like the Rav4 Haval Price is cheaper, even with custom paint. Havals internals destroy the Rav4. Rav4 looks old and dated for that amount of $. Haval looks like a spaceship inside. And i'm almost certain that they will provide software updates for the infotainment system to re-organise it and provide a more intuitive design. The only complaint im hearing is about the seat heating location in the menu You mention the suspension - this is hardly going to be a issue unless you're driving country roads all day every day. And eventually a local provider will have a suspension kit to tune if you really need.

There is no doubt that Toyota is the king of the past, and the reliability and preservation rate are very good. But Toyota was stuck in a patent it had invincible about 15 years ago, a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, an E-CVT transmission, and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Although these reliability are very good, but with the update of electronic control technology, IGBT, and motor technology, it is already the technology of the previous era. Looking at the "classic" interior, it is a masterpiece of pragmatism. The monitors erected like tombstones seem to put a 90s Toshiba TV in the car. Old-fashioned, not at all the high spirits of Toyota 20 years ago.
Toyota RAV4 would have been a good car if you could find one. I went to every Toyota dealers in Sydney today and they all said wait time of 1 to 2 years. And if you want to get a near new one right now, it is from 58,990 you have to pay almost 10,000 dollars over the manufacturer price. So the actual price difference is closer to 13,000 dollars. With that price difference, I wouldn't mind 1 extra litre/100km of fuel consumption. Plus the interior of Haval is much better looking than RAV4.
It’s very clear that Toyota’s design department is still living in the 1990s. Obviously Toyota believes us the Ozzies will support them unconditionally forever. Time to improve Toyota!
I would argue that you aren't doing a fair comparison. To say extra space is just nice to have but not needed. Then you can't compare them in that category. Economy... you can't test that in 1 day on the Haval. And also you are comparing the top level Haval to the Base Level Ran 4. The Haval spec wise is better to price against the Edge. So the price difference is not a few grand but $60,650 for the Rav4 vs $45,990.00 is a different of $14,660. That's not a few thousand. And finally... you never mentioned the fact you can't get a Rav4 at the moment. Where as The Haval Hybrid is in stock.
18 months wait list. I was reading a comment on reddit of a guy who had ordered himself one and was told to wait 18 months (why would you even, anyway..), he waited it out and rang the dealer and they told him it could take another 18 months. Imagine a problem so large that this reviewer didn't even mention it. Just happened to 'forget' that little one did ya.
@@N1rOx I had a friend with a similar experience. Told to wait 24 months, so he got the haval on a 12 month lease to cover the gap. After the first 12 months when the lease company asked him if he wanted to extend he just cancelled the Rav4 order and leased the Haval since it was just as good as far as he was concerned.
Hey did anyone miss the Lane center assist in H6? or is it there in RAV4 also. If I am not mistaken RAV 4 only has lane keep assist and not lane center assist
Think where people don't touch on with Haval is that full EV mode can kick in anywhere from 0-110km per hour. Never seen a Rav kick in full EV mode at anywhere past 60km per hour.
What I would like to know is what drive mode the Haval was set on Eco, normal or sport, when working out the fuel consumption? Also why wouldnt you compare the safety features of both cars not just the haval?
Because this review was paid for by Toyota. They don't compare anything the Haval wins on, a lot more space=unimportant, safety features and extra features are never compared. Negatives of the Toyota were not even mentioned or straight up turned into positives like that 90s interior lol.
Rav4 Hybrid - king of the segment is now a contender. That says a lot about H6 HEV. Subaru & MG HEV were no where close in comparison. The old man sounded biased from the beginning and the last segment of "I play dumb, u act smart and you win" was just outrageous and so superficial. Rav4 Hybrid with comparable features n specs is priced well above H6 price of $45k, and not to mention 10-18 months wait. Carexpert and other reviews say it averaged circa 5.7L/100km. DAB, satnav is things from the past. We have phone (carplay & AA) for that. Yes I do believe they need to get suspension tuned for Aussie road. H6 inside is absolutely modern and looks way cooler than Rav4. Ps: I own 2017 Rav4 n had own H6 briefly in 2020 (sold it coz of turbo lag and bodyroll).
Is it just me or anyone else worried that Tom is looking towards camera all the time while driving, he is hardly looking at the roads 😂 Good comparison though 👍
not aimed at anything other than cost saving and efficiency. the brand name will carry it. toyota could shit in australians cereal and they'd still pay 100k for it.
Convex mirrors are crap, also the power output on the naval is heaps more… Toyota like Mazda are overrated give it time and the naval will be as good as the Toyota remember hyuanda
Great video! I have feedback though on the not seeing whether you are in drive or reverse comment, so...when the car goes forward then you are in drive. Jokes, very good video. I don't think South Africa is getting that Haval H6. It looks so good and I would have one.
Toyota just can’t get its design right. It just felt so old and cheap, even Lexus NX which is pretty much a fancy RAV4 , outside looks like Darth Vader’s helmet and inside look way too busy….
As always your videos are fab. Appreciate your work. But I have confusion if you want to choose between Rav4 HV GXL AWD Auto CVT which is now $50453 and Haval H6 Ultra hybrid which is $46103 then which one would you go for. I am getting both the cars in next week for the above mentioned price, so availability is not the issue for me. I am really confused and unable to make the decision. After sale market of haval is not so good as compared to Rav4. And now they have raised the price of rav4 so I am not sure is it worth to buy Rav4 or haval at this time now. Is this something you can please guide on. By any chance if you can please reply little early it would be really appreciated.
@@svdfxd HAVAL hybrid without any doubt. Kindly note I am NOT talking about petrol model (it has very bad fuel economy) It is haval ultra hybrid model which you should go for without any doubt. I managed to book it for 44400 aud with few accessories. Fuel economy for haval h6 hybrid is close to 6.5 l / 100 km luxurious interior and 7 year warranty. Drawback of haval hybrid is - no satelitte navigation, only 2wd available.
Lmao this "review" is obviously paid for by Toyota, they weren't even trying to hide the bias. Haval H6 is much better in every way, shows you how overpriced the other brands are. China makes the best hybrids and EVs by far.
I am lucky I want to start looking to upgrade about Christmas 2023 to have by2024 so I love the Mazda CX-5 or the Hybrid RAV4 fuel cost leading me to RAV4 but I am going to have a good look at HAVAL hybrid! So we will see what 2023 has to offer in the next eleven months.
the space in haval make t a sweet family car. Toyota sets the meaning of quality. but if haval can catch up in next 10 years, then it may help Toyota to drop price. Toyota-tax is ridiculous expensive. I remember back in 2009 hilux is around 50k, now you pay 20k more just for the brand.
Ok. As a previous Prius owner, with the Prius my average fuel economy was 4.9 litres to 100 km. My Rav 4 with the 2.4 litre petrol averaged about 9 litres in real life. So you want to actually sell me, that a Rav 4 hybrid that weights much more than a Prius only returns 5.2 litres on the road? I'm sorry, but I'm just not buying it, no car ever returns the fuel figures stated on paper.
Rav hybrid claims 4.7 litres 100 klm FWD / AWD 4.8 litres 100 klm I have the hybrid FWD and have just over 10,000 klm on mine and the best I get is 5.8 litres to 100 klm

I chose the Haval H6 Hybrid premium because of one thing that most manufactures seem to forget about and thats tall drivers. I'm 6'5" and my head hits the roof in the Rav. Tonne of head space in the H6 and this will be my first car with a sun roof. All other cars lower there headsapce to accomodate for the sunroof. Not in the Haval! Plus, the Toyota interiors are still looking like there from the 90's.
I JUST LOVE MY H6 HYBRID GREAT LOOKS ESPECIALLY THE AUTOMATIC PARKING & THE HEADS UP DISPLAY THE DEALER TURNED OFF/DOWN THE ANNOYING TECH SO NOT A PROBLEM DROVE THE MG HS BUT THE H6 WON OUT IN EVERY WAY
The review is not accurate as the price to driveway is more than $10k more for the Toyota, they quoted driveway price on Haval and didn't mention driveway price on Toyota which is minimum $55 k
I am so hoping Haval will get rid of the lights on the bum and square it up a bit to match the front. The rounded look and basic lights give me Mitsubishi vibes which I hate!
He really hadn't done his full homework on the H6 hybrid in regards to combined power / torque. The 2 speed shift integrates both petrol & electric for tremendous power.. Sat Nav, come on bring yourself up todate ie Android auto IPhone connect..
Honestly who gives a crap about DAB or Satellite Radio? Everyone has a phone and they all run Android Auto and Apple Carplay. I rather a free and detailed Google Maps service and my own Spotify/Apple Music playlist than over the air radio advertisements
"..you CANT add these up.." EXACTLY what I want a car reviewer to say. the torque figure can't be added to 500nm. That's to a degree misleading advertisement from HAVAL. 0-100km remains at 8sec or so. THAT IS NOT a 500nm car. also for a hybrid the consumption isnt outstanding. TO be fair, China roads are pretty good so their A and B roads are standard. Very few bad B roads. So their tuning is expected for COMFORT. so expect US style ride comfort and compromise for handling. Sunroof and space goes to HAVAL. Satellite and Digital radio does nothing for me.
Won't choose any of them, the two main adventures of a hybrid are less fuel consumption and more power. I can just get an electric car instead, BYD Atto 3 or wait for the Tesla Model Y, zero fuel cost + electric motor is technically more advanced.
So basically whichever things are better in the h6 those are not important stuff, come on ... be fair in your review. There is a clear difference in seating room especially in the rear seat. Haval suspension is way better, acceleration is smoother, infotainment is way way better. Overall driving experience is better. Period.
GWM is still a privately owned company by far though being tied to the political regime which I oppose. But it is fair to say that being a private company, not owned by Chinese government, it may still at least have some decency to sell reliable products elsewhere. Although troubled with reliability in comparison with Toyota, it still has plenty of room to grow. I guess people should weigh between the political concerns and the facts of the car performance in line with their individual needs. After all, we need to respect individual choices rather than imposing our own views onto others.
Because you don't/won't take time to learn the media, does not mean its bad. I suspect you have an Apple phone? 🤔 We also understand that long term loan cars is where you can put something nice on the drive, not that this would affect your review. By the way, the gear you are in is on the dash D or R and even P. Our Discovery Sport gear dial has the same issue with reflections. As for Navigation, Waze, Google maps etc have up to date information, plus search for any service. OSM maps work without service on Android Auto, and yo can save Google maps for out of service areas. DAB is ok for major cities, nearest DAB to Cairns is Brisbane. DAB is out dated with LiSTNR and others, where there is no service, Bluetooth android auto/carplay.
Maybe haval is more powerful than rav4? It’s like you compare fuel consumption between Mercedes with Toyota. You know Toyota will win but it’s not the point. The same as “takes time to get used to the new design and no button thing”.
Havel should have offered the hybrid in the entry grade spec like the Toyota R4 attracts a broader audience eg R4 hybrid in entry spec used by several gov Dept , corporate fleet car rental, taxi, uber , Telstra and the list goes on and remember these organisations don't buy one they buy 10 to 20 in one go
Close your eye's and turn the gear selector to the left and it's in reverse turn it to the right and it goes forward. When in reverse the rear view camera is activated which should tell you something 😂
Most car reviewers in Australia are unable to come to term, how much China has advanced in car technology. Most have ancap of 5 in safety. Still have the old mentality of Chinese product like there did with early Japanese car. Also the reviews have high expectation of the drive train There are not exactly build for racing. Most owners are city dwellers with speed limit of 50km and lucky to reach maximum of 100km on daily drive. Chinese cars are alot more competitive in all aspects. Average family would find it prohibitive to buy cars above $45000 especially with the rise in house mortgage, electricity gas, petrol etc.
Very disappointed with the bias to Toyota. Haval brings modern instrumentation, an exceptional drive train at at an exceptional price. How can you compare no on-board sat nav in the Havel when smart phone connectivity does all of that. Toyota has a great proven product mechanically, but has been well left behind with technology.....
The Haval shows the gear on the screen right in front of your face - you don't need to look down at the gear indicator. This guy's a bit of a dinosaur.

Does he need to know how to work a manual choke? Hand wind a Model T? No. Irrelevant. And be honest, 99% of drivers wouldn't cope in a wet slide, because our minimum driving standards don't make us learn. 3 point turn, reverse park, and you're good to go. Blame the system, not the end product.
The Haval is hopelessly overpriced in hybrid form for a challenger brand. If it was significantly cheaper you could forgive its inferior fuel economy and other LHD quirks.
I will pick mine ine the next 3-5 days, since it is availability is great
Great and concise review,
Thanks guys
Is that LCD screen from 10 years ago? Isn't it too much to cut costs?
I'm struggling to understand how you get a fair consistent analysis while having two separate people analyse two separate cars.
How much did TOYOTA pay them SO OBVIOUS...LOL
I’m still waiting for my RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser but in a couple of years I may trade for a Haval. You have to hand it to Haval and China, they are really coming along in leaps and bounds and feel in a couple of years may surpass all the opposition. Well done 👏🏽
We looked at the Rav but didn’t like the price tag compared to goodies. Switched to the Havel best decision we made.
Hey, I am in the future right now. It is 2024. Did you trade your RAV4 for a Haval?
Who needs digital radio in 2022?
RAV4 inside is a deal breaker
And sat navigation? Who uses in car navigation?
I'm pretty sure Google maps are far better substitute to Toyota's own navigation... i've never experienced anything better than google
Boys,
I'm sorry but you have missed the mark on some of the items
You can get DAB on your phone and its not a missed sales point.
Haval has Auto-Parking Assist and R4 doesn't.
No one uses shitty Sat Nav anymore
The H6 Destroys a lot of mid-size SUVs in Hybrid/Fuel mode and you even mentioned in the written review the Haval was @ low 6s
Its not a 12-15month wait like the Rav4
Haval Price is cheaper, even with custom paint.
Havals internals destroy the Rav4. Rav4 looks old and dated for that amount of $. Haval looks like a spaceship inside. And i'm almost certain that they will provide software updates for the infotainment system to re-organise it and provide a more intuitive design. The only complaint im hearing is about the seat heating location in the menu
You mention the suspension - this is hardly going to be a issue unless you're driving country roads all day every day. And eventually a local provider will have a suspension kit to tune if you really need.

It is a straight knockout if you compare the safety features between H6 Hybrid and RAV 4
But you can’t buy the Toyota so as long as Haval has stock 😀
Toyota RAV4 would have been a good car if you could find one. I went to every Toyota dealers in Sydney today and they all said wait time of 1 to 2 years. And if you want to get a near new one right now, it is from 58,990 you have to pay almost 10,000 dollars over the manufacturer price. So the actual price difference is closer to 13,000 dollars. With that price difference, I wouldn't mind 1 extra litre/100km of fuel consumption. Plus the interior of Haval is much better looking than RAV4.
You do realise you can control the sound of the cargo door when it opens & closes. So much for knowing about researching a vehicle!!!!!!!
The only highlight of RAV4 is the brand itself, otherwise, it's sh*t.
It’s very clear that Toyota’s design department is still living in the 1990s. Obviously Toyota believes us the Ozzies will support them unconditionally forever. Time to improve Toyota!
I’d just like you to know that I’m not looking for a Toyota Rav 4 so not everyone is looking for one as you say.
The Toyota interior looks like it was ripped out from an 05 model
pity you can't get a RAV4 for over 12 months... we went Haval and test drove it and purchased it on the spot as it was instantly ready to pick up.
I hope they got paid well.
Because the haval has alot more they can't even compare it
Because this review was paid for by Toyota. They don't compare anything the Haval wins on, a lot more space=unimportant, safety features and extra features are never compared. Negatives of the Toyota were not even mentioned or straight up turned into positives like that 90s interior lol.

“Fuel economy of the H6 is not competitive in this segment”.
Subaru Forester hybrid has entered the chat…
Im concerned about body roll around corners for the H6, and handling in the wet. Can you elaborate please?
Is it just me or anyone else worried that Tom is looking towards camera all the time while driving, he is hardly looking at the roads 😂
Good comparison though 👍
i noticed that
the price for rav 4? Am I living in a different world of Aus?
One thing I like about the Haval is the way that Android Auto is integrated into the HUD. The Rav4 is more aimed at oldies that don't understand tech.
not aimed at anything other than cost saving and efficiency. the brand name will carry it. toyota could shit in australians cereal and they'd still pay 100k for it.
Convex mirrors are crap, also the power output on the naval is heaps more… Toyota like Mazda are overrated give it time and the naval will be as good as the Toyota remember hyuanda
Where to buy a Rav4 now? Please advise.
The blinkers are on the left, arent they usually supposed to me on the right?
Great video! I have feedback though on the not seeing whether you are in drive or reverse comment, so...when the car goes forward then you are in drive. Jokes, very good video. I don't think South Africa is getting that Haval H6. It looks so good and I would have one.
It on the dash as well.
We are. The H6 hybrid is already on sale in South Africa.
How can GPS be an issue, while the tech generally is 10 years behind the Havel’s offering.
it's not an issue. everyone uses their phone's now. Just like Toyota, Drive is out of touch.
does it comes with android auto wireless ?
Its wired. But wireless charging pad

Any of Toyota's car interior is as simple as 10 years ago.
the space in haval make t a sweet family car. Toyota sets the meaning of quality. but if haval can catch up in next 10 years, then it may help Toyota to drop price. Toyota-tax is ridiculous expensive. I remember back in 2009 hilux is around 50k, now you pay 20k more just for the brand.
Toyotas infotainment system! Hahaha. My 2016 Kia Sportage had a more modern system than it

Haval gets my money
Rav4 XSE hybrid FWD now cost $53k on Toyota website AWD cost $57,999
The power output of these two are completely in different league, comparing fuel consumption without compare the real performance its a rip
I am so hoping Haval will get rid of the lights on the bum and square it up a bit to match the front. The rounded look and basic lights give me Mitsubishi vibes which I hate!

Haval is much better than Toyota , I’m having and enjoying it ❤
He really hadn't done his full homework on the H6 hybrid in regards to combined power / torque.
I am still waiting haval to release phev h6 to australian market.
Honestly this is bias lol I love toyata but Chinese car brands now a days are not holding back on new features.
These two cars are now in different price segments
"..you CANT add these up.."
EXACTLY what I want a car reviewer to say.
the torque figure can't be added to 500nm.
Period.
Haval Defo wins. Rav 4 has a 3 year wait at the moemnt due to them bulk selling to taxi companies. Haval wait is currently 2-3 months.
Towing capability of both? Size does matter, Rav4 rear seat is too small.
We also understand that long term loan cars is where you can put something nice on the drive, not that this would affect your review.
Toyota is for oldies, they are legacy buyers. New gen wants Value for Money and Smart features which GWM+MG are providing at a much lower cost
Maybe haval is more powerful than rav4? It’s like you compare fuel consumption between Mercedes with Toyota. You know Toyota will win but it’s not the point. The same as “takes time to get used to the new design and no button thing”.
Havel should have offered the hybrid in the entry grade spec like the Toyota R4 attracts a broader audience eg R4 hybrid in entry spec used by several gov Dept , corporate fleet car rental, taxi, uber , Telstra and the list goes on and remember these organisations don't buy one they buy 10 to 20 in one go
You forgot aesthetics - The Haval is way better looking
Close your eye's and turn the gear selector to the left and it's in reverse turn it to the right and it goes forward. When in reverse the rear view camera is activated which should tell you something 😂

Nope the Haval is an amazing choice. Looks , tech and price point.
Lol the comment section is the opposite to your review 😂😂😂
Most car reviewers in Australia are unable to come to term, how much China has advanced in car technology. Most have ancap of 5 in safety. Still have the old mentality of Chinese product like there did with early Japanese car.
Also the reviews have high expectation of the drive train
There are not exactly build for racing.
Most owners are city dwellers with speed limit of 50km and lucky to reach maximum of 100km on daily drive. Chinese cars are alot more competitive in all aspects. Average family would find it prohibitive to buy cars above $45000 especially with the rise in house mortgage, electricity
gas, petrol etc.
Terrible review the H6 is far better than the Rav 4 and what the old man is giving it credit.
Please don't have a teenager review cars..
His driving experience is in modern, soleless cars.. loaded with tech crap..
Wouldn't have a clue what 3 on the tree, double clutch means.. you have a teenager reviewing cars?
Zero driving experience..
Wonder what he would do if driving a car, without stability control, traction control, abs braking.. and the car slid out in the wet..

That's got to be the biggest load of "old fart complaining" I've heard all day. Who the f cares about 3 on the tree and double clutching? Those things are relics of the past.
Will, if only have 10 function, give it 10 buttons. Of course everything is gona be easy.
Hahaha good one!
The Haval is hopelessly overpriced in hybrid form for a challenger brand. If it was significantly cheaper you could forgive its inferior fuel economy and other LHD quirks. Unless waiting times were something you could not do, the RAV4 is a better proposition. I know tech heads will love the H6, but I don’t prioritise that.
Haval is way better in every way, cheaper too.
