- The updated RAV4 is here and Toyota has a few changes. On the outside of the XSE Hybrid you will find new headlights, front fascia, and wheels. On the inside you will be greeted to the unique soft-tex interior, 8in infotainment system, and plenty of storage. Under the hood is a 2.5L inline-4 that produces when combined with (2) electric motors produces 219HP & mated to an eCVT. Is the NEW 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a BETTER compact SUV than a Honda CR-V?

Congrats! The touch screen looks a bit obtrusive sitting that high on the dashboard. Does it get in the way of the view out the road?
@@AndrewTocco nope. Don’t really notice it when you’re looking at the road. The big screen really is helpful when you’re driving and trying to find what you’re looking for.

If I live long enough I'll probably be posting the same review saying that I remember when my Rav4 was only $36,000 new when I bought it :) I am retired and besides the basic electric windows, Apple car play and AC all I want is the adaptive cruise control. The cruise control is rare on used cars on lots. One in 10 have it. I will probably have to buy new.

My wife loves her 2021 RAV4 XSE Hybrid. The MPG claims are real! This is a great in-town vehicle as well as a very comfortable long distance road machine! The Twinkie tray, avocado holder, and In and Out door storage is great in this vehicle. The hybrid technology is second to none. Another solid winner from Toyota!!
Thank you! I was thinking about the AWD...rav4, crv or a honda passport. Main concern was if the rav4/crv would have enough power for out of state trips 2x a year.
What is the road and/or wind noise like? I understand that is a pretty common complaint? Do you like the Dynamic Navigation package???
It barely gets 35mpg at best. Diesel trucks get that now days. The rav4 is the most uncomfortable vehicle i have ever owned and I'm talking 20+.

I love the detail you go to explaining the interior and exterior i love the snack jokes and Lori's camera fallow through how she smoothly transitions from the door panel to the dash its the little things that make it a good video also plz don't change the way you do your vids they're so entertaining to watch and i know what to expect next like after the door panel comes the dash then the info-tainment then the price its just simply well made and said well done the both of you thanks for what yall do

hey guys! My father wants to buy a RAV 4 Hybrid with 218PS. Do u guys think its a car which will last long? Cause we wanted to buy a jeep at first, but jeep has no experience with plug in and hybrid. Toyota is such a company which offers high quality cars. Whats your opinion on the RAV 4? Will it be worth it and do u think it will last long without running to a garage everytime?
As always, great review by Raiti's Rides. I like how Toyota didn't try to do too much with an already excellent vehicle design, keeping the refreshing to a minimum. I currently own a 2018 RAV4 Hybrid in limited trim; it's the best all-around vehicle I've ever leased and owned. The vehicle I'm looking forward to is the upcoming Toyota Corolla Cross in hybrid form. When it arrives, I'm certain that Raiti's Rides will give it the usual excellent and unbiased review.
I got a 2018 rav 4 hybrid limited as well, and i will keep buying them over and over because ever since 2019 in the rav 4's they started that stupid ass tablet shit..... I think the tablet is big and bulky and ugly as shit, i hope they go back to integrated screens, also I wish they would go back to the cruise control at the bottom right and not on the steering wheel that's dumb as hell... :/

Anyway I have ordered the 2022 RAV4 Adventure Hybrid, safari green with orange and black interior. Arrives in May. Are US dealerships getting that trim level ? Toyota Japan won’t sell the Prime to NZ sadly. Rav 4 is a nice looking vehicle. I don’t need millions of tech inside the cockpit to be happy. Correct when you say that Honda needs to lift their game.

bought me a 2021 rav4 hybrid XLE. Could not have been more happier. Such a gorgeous body! The lunar rock color is beautiful! I contemplated between this , Honda CR-V, Taos and Seltos. Decided to go with a rav4. Thanks so much for the review Joe!

Depends on what you want. Personally I find the CR-V to be more comfortable but I agree that the Rav-4 wins in almost every other way

Despite the obvious (looks) it also is just a far better built vehicle. Honda is having issues with the CRV’s. Mainly the turbos.

One thing as Rav4 hybrid XSE owner, it has rather soft suspension (and I have "sport tuned" suspension). Adventure/Trail model had horribly soft suspension!
@@James-il3tq I currently drive a 2007 Lexus. I hope a RAV4 has a stiffer suspension, if only slightly.
You’ll love this current gen RAV4. I own a 21 RAV4 TRD Off-Road and love it. Suspension is great and the engine is spunky but as Joe stated, the Hybrid may be the soft spot since it has a bit more HP with the better MPG.
You will love it..but don’t get the le because for a couple thousand more you get the power liftgate sunroof and heated mirrors. Mileage is as advertised..I average 39.5 mpg in mine.
RAV4 Cavalry Blue looks awesome. This XSE or XLE version is going to be my next car 2022. Can't wait.

However, I am waiting on my order for a Limited Hybrid myself.
It has been a long wait because of the Chip Shortage.
I want the Tech & Weather Packages. The Tech Package I have been told is harder to get because of the shortage.
This trim you are showing would be my 2nd pick. It is a nice trim but the Limited is 'better' for me.
I only wished Toyota added the HUD to the RAV4.
Our son just purchased a 2022 Prius Limited and it has a HUD and a large screen.
Still I like your reviews. You are 'Understandable', Knowledgeable, and 'Entertaining'.

I have the gloss black on my 2019 Rav4 hybrid XSE and you bet it is scratched a LOT (I off-road and drive a lot). No regrets though!
its not a big deal when you figure that vehicles have body color fenders too its the same thing..

I was also a senior in high school when my mom bought the new 2002 RAV4. She gave it to me in 2016 and it lasted till 2018. Hehe
Honestly, both the CRV & the RAV4 are awesome Bullet Proof SUV’s with each brand having slight differences in marketing options! CRV has AWD, Remote start, moonroof and heated front seats all standard for a great price. RAV4 wins on styling points and more MPG! Overall, your purchase decision will come down to what package best suits your needs for the $$! You won’t be ZONKED either way!

Love your videos, been a fan for awhile! Wanted to clarify one point -- is that true you can get up to 32 *miles on pure electric with the Hybrid (non-Prime) version of the Rav? I have the previous generation (2016) and with that you can get ~1 mile maybe and with lower speeds. I didn't think the pure electric range in the 2019+ models had improved by that much. Figured it was a few miles at most. Any additional insight would be great! Cheers
Was just going to comment this. I think I read that the prime is what has 30 miles of range and ev mode on just the hybrid is if you're stuck in traffic/construction

It can not. I think he was thinking prime at the moment. Those are rated 42 miles, but you can get as high as 60.
Very noisy engine though
I just got a 2021 rav4 exactly like this (except the dark gray color) 2 months ago. I'm glad I did not wait for a 2022 as it appears the only difference is the wheels and headlights. I like these wheels better than the 2021 I think, but the headlights on the 2021 are much better imho.
Likewise!! I was really torn because I was waiting for the 2022 Corolla Cross. After driving this Rav 4 for a couple months though, I’m so glad I got my ‘21 Rav 4!
I have put on 109,000 km on my 2016 RAV4 Hybrid since picking it up new in June of 2016. What a great vehicle, my liters per 100 Kms has been a steady 6.4 combined city and highway for the 6 years I’ve had it. No warranty work required, only serviced the brakes at 90,000 Kms and regular oil changes. Great in Ontario Canada winters too. So glad we bought it.
I'll be getting my RAV4 hybrid that I ordered 2 months ago very soon, as I just got word last week that it's been built, is currently in transit, and should be at the dealer for me to take delivery sometime the week of Christmas!
Mine's a 2021 though and an XLE Premium. It's another one of their blues, their darker one, Blueprint.

Wish mine would have been built as what would likely have been one of the first few '22s, but hey, I can't complain as I'll be quite happy with what I'm getting.

I started liking the RAV4 when Toyota went to this body style. Much nicer for the American market, imho. I’m really impressed with all the features both inside and out. I actually like this more than the Honda CR-V, and I have always been a Honda guy. Great review!
Haha same!! There's an 09 CR-V and it needs a younger brother for the gage so, thinking of this one! Fuel efficiency seems amazing for the size, not as low as the C-HR but still super low for this size. Had the H-RV hybrid in my mind but don't wanna feel cramped in the backseat although it's very roomy and leg spacy but...a RAV4 is a RAV4 so. Hope I will push this one! Cheers m8!
I like the box look more than the round look, but I wish it had more of a sci-fi styling that cars are adopting again. I just lost my C-HR. Godzilla came out of nowhere.
Not sure if you're serious - Honda is killing Toyota as it relates to styling, handling, and safety. Not even close, especially with minivans and SUVs
@@eventhorizon9512 I really like Honda's sci-fi designs. Lots of sharp angles, hard edges, bevels, insets, and contrasting colors. Basically aesthetic complexity. I love it! I just wish their electronic steering had more torque by default.

We just got a black RAV4 prime not long ago and wished it was that blue color . It’s beautiful.

@@RaitisRides I think Hondas 3 main vehicles should all use some kind of hybrid tech at the 29k for Civic, 33k for Accord and 31k for CR-V. The fact that the newest Civic doesn't tells you that Honda is having trouble keeping up.
Now Toyota just needs to get their inventory issues resolved. We’ve been looking for an XSE Hybrid for months and no dealerships have them.
Have you even been in this world for the past year? It’s not their fault. It’s a chip shortage in China that sends a piece of the car to the automaker to install so that the technology can work. It’s not just Toyota, it’s all brands. Have patience.
@@barbz_zayne not just that but they didn't expect the rav4 hybrid to be this popular. Demand exceeded supply by a lot so they've had trouble getting these on the road
You got to factory order nowadays. Might take 6+ months but you’ll get exactly what you want!

Cavalry Blue is an amazing color (not to be confused with Calvary, which has nothing to do with the cavalry), it kind of reminds me a little of BMW's Yas Marina Blue.
As for the question of whether to choose a CRV Hybrid or a RAV4 Hybrid, I believe that Toyota's hybrid tech is the best in the world, being a series-parallel system that Toyota has been developing for over 20 years! It has been integrated into their lineup to a greater degree than any other manufacturer.
Did they fix the gas tank issue…..filling up more than 10 gal..

It does but on cruiser and up not on the XSE

Hey joe and Lori, how are yall (sadly, tomorrow is Monday).
The refresh Toyota Rav-4, dosen't looks that different (just the head lights are different (I know it's a mid life refresh), and it's not more prettier or uglier (well it's more "rugged" I guess).
Supposedly, (by what toyota says, and "Driving.ca") is that several trims in the RAV4 lineup will see new wheel designs; a new Cavalry Blue colour; updated headlamps; illuminated interior switches; and an eight-way power passenger seat, while all offerings for 2022 receive a locking glove box and LED interior lamps.
But joe, (or anybody who read this).
First of all: How are y'all day, (or weekend) and what midsize suv in this range will you choose.

I'm happy with my R4P but the hybrid is the better buy. I feel better good about having the PHEV with current gas prices, but it's hard to beat the value of the regular hybrid.

Rav4 is a great vehicle. But 3 issues - Noisy engine and Wind noise above 50-60 mph
And also brakes make some noise while break release
Yes it is so loud on the highway!! And the park brake kills the 12v so your car won't start

It’s a fully loaded XSE and I love it , you did a great a job with this video and I think I just became a life time Toyota customer, love everything about the car , love the attention I get on the road. Awesome vehicle, I see a highlander XSE in my future rather than a Tesla.

After our little guy was born last year, I traded in my Stinger GT AWD (tuned to +400HP) for a RAV4 XLE Hybrid and didn't think twice after driving away from the dealer. As an engineer I could tell the RAV4 was build solid and well thought out.
I currently have a 2020 Kia Forte gt with a tune and exhaust and was wondering if I’d be content in a new rav 4 hybrid cause I love the awd and ground clearance with good mpg.

I have a 2021 in Blizzard Pearl, but I'm definitely drooling over the beautiful Cavalry Blue. With the blue painted shocks, is it normal to have paint chips wearing off the blue paint on the shocks. I have driven under 4000km.
