When the teenage girls from our group came across her having a cup of tea on the terrace of the local restaurant, she was gracious enough to allow them to take a photo with her. When things were at their very worst:
      2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy.

      Beware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again.
      After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way.
      Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet
      - will seem to rise from the dead
      - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one.
      One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist.
      Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent.
      "Many events, including ecological upheavals, wars, the schism in My Church on Earth, the dictatorships in each of your nations - bound as one, at its very core - will all take place at the same time."

    Just watched this film today at the Toronto International Film Festival. I'm always a sucker for a good coming-of-age story, but this one was by far one of the best I've seen. It's an artistic film that really immereses you in the perspective of the boy (outstanding performance by the young Jude Hill) as he struggles to navigate both conflict within his family and that of the early years of the Troubles. Kenneth Branagh was actually here for a talk-back afterwards and I could really feel that it was a very personal project for him, inspired by his own childhood experiences. The film also has a uniquely haunting soundtrack brilliantly balanced with bits of humour. The choice to present it in black and white was also an excellent move by Branagh. Outstanding performances all around, but Catriona Balfe's in particular stood out. Wanted to rewatch it as soon as I left the auditorium. Much more to dissect!

    • @brendanfisher
      @brendanfisher 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Can I ask about your background? Did you have a knowledge of Belfast and the Troubles before you saw this film? I'm keen to know how International audiences will respond to the accents, the storyline and the history of NI.

    • @tomding462
      @tomding462 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@brendanfisher No, I didn't really know much about the Troubles prior to seeing the film. I still don't, but I knew vaguely that the conflict had religious and nationalistic motivations that were complex and dated back centuries ago. But for me the film was far from political in tone. For others who have lived through the Troubles, it might be a different experience watching it, but for me, the heart of the film was the personal and familial struggles at being uprooted from home. I myself was an immigrant as a child and really identified with those aspects of the story. It was also just very beautifully written and shot. I'm also just a really big fan of Sir Ken. But as a cinephile I do love learning about different cultures and periods through film. The audience at my screening was also really enthusiastic and responsive. I know some initial reviews from the US said there should have been subtitles because of the unintelligibility of the NI accent, but I used to dabble in acting and had practiced a bunch of different accents so the NI dialect wasn't a problem for me to understand. In fact I liked the authenticity it gave to the film.

    This looks like a goodie. So glad Jamie is getting a chance to be appreciated for his talent. He got loads of praise for The Fall, but hasn't since the 50's trilogy, although I think he deserved praise for Christian Grey. I'm excited to watch this movie from Kenneth Branagh. My whole family is from Ulster. My mum left in 1962 before the troubles got bad, but left behind everyone else. We are an Orange and Green family, with my Grandfather being Catholic and my Grandmother being a Protestant. So glad that they cast Jamie Dornan in this role. He's a great actor and I feel he'll just get better with age.
