How To Mop Floors | Simple Cleaning Tutorial

- This video is all about how to mop floors with the good old fashioned string mop.
The string mop is my favorite mop to clean with! I feel like it does the best job at getting floors crisp and clean.
There are 2 ways to use the string mop. You can go with a level 1 which is called damp mopping or you can go with a level 2 cleaning which is called slop mopping.
The level 1 cleaning is a general maintenance mop. It is for floors that don't get very dirty and are mopped regularly. Floors with low traffic.
Fill up a bucket with warm water, pour your favorite cleaning solution into the water, ring out the mop until it is mildly damp and use it to mop your floors. You are wiping off the floor the way you would wipe off your kitchen counters.
The level 2 cleaning is for floors with high traffic and are very dirty. Maybe you have large dogs going in and out of your house or there is a layer of hair spray on the floor. This is when you want to go with the level 2 cleaning aka slop mopping.
Fill your bucket up with hot water, pour your favorite cleaning solution into the water and drench your floors with the water. Use the mop to scrub the floors. Next, rinse and ring the mop out as dry as you can get it and use it to collect all the dirty water from the floors. You may need several buckets of water to complete this process.

hello !
I have big issues about motivation and cleaning, this probably come from my depression when I was young. Seeing you clean with such a positive energy really motivate me to do so , this makes me feel like it could be a pleasant , almost playfull, experience and for someone who has a brain wired around "cleaning = bad" this really helps me. I'm going to follow your channel to finally invest me into cleaning better my living space. Thank you very much !
Hello there, happy to help!! Welcome to the channel and great to have you:)
Thank you for helping me be an adult!
Happy to help!
I got embarrassed at work because someone had to show me how to mop and i wasn't understanding✨. Thank you for this.
Happy to help!
My manager told me my mopping was sloppy so i have to watch tutorials 😭😭
Last week i was named wit another classmate to clean around the cooking classroom and i didn't knew how to mop. I tried my best but then the teacher asked me if i ever did this, and i said no, shestarted mocking me and she cleaned in my place. No one ever teached me how to use cleaning tools like mops, brooms etc.
However this video is very nice, i love how you explained step by step, now i just hope i wont gonna be ashamed of a teacher ever..
Happy to help!
I can relate! I didn't learn how to sweep until I was about 30. I'm nearly twice that old now and I'm just starting to feel confident about mopping. I didn't have a good example to follow at home, so it was mostly about figuring it out myself.
That makes me sad to hear that your teacher mocked you - the very opposite of what a teacher should do! I have always been grateful to a 7th grade Home Economics teacher who taught me to wipe water spots off a counter top - something that would never have been done in my home, but made a big difference. I wish sweeping and mopping had been taught too.
This video holds up even today. So much better than all these ridiculous systems that have been developed to make it easier to mop without having to touch the mop and ring it out. The string mop works better and is much cheaper. These "moping systems" will break down after a year or two or even sooner.
You are so correct
Im a teenager and I wanted to help my parents. So when they left the house I looked for a video and yours came up. Thanks!

@@CleanWithConfidence I wish I did too. My palms always get rough and really sore when I'm mopping and squeezing the mop. Please do you have any advice for that?
Your videos are exactly what I've been looking for!
Wonderful! Glad you are getting some value out of them
Nice video! Looking forward to your other ones. Growing up, my mom was a horder...so no floors to clean. I like to make sure I'm cleaning correctly. Thank you!
You are welcome!
Thank you I need to keep my back straighter because it hurts now after my new job. Some people think cleaning is simple but theres a technique for everything to achieve good results.

Hey thanks for this video! This was exactly what I was searching for!
You are welcome!
The crucial bit for me is dry cleaning with various sized brushes to start with, saving the more time consuming moping. And whereas in the beginning I found it an annoying chore, I now find it therapeutic knowing I'm doing things correctly.
I haven't even finished watching the video but I'm already liking it strictly on the fact that he did a spin off move with the mop (dead) 💀
I love your video man. I'm newly single after 11 years of marriage. Whenever I tried to mop I felt like I was just slinging filth everywhere!! Lol! Thanks for this. You're my new cleaning encyclopedia.... I need to see if you have recommendations for dried caked slime. I have a Slime Scientist 👩🔬 in my family.
Hey John you are welcome! Glad you are enjoying the videos!
Also, check out clean my space...
Its difficult when you never done it🤣🤣
So helpful! Just moved into a townhouse that has laminate wood look floors that I SWEAR have never been cleaned. This is exactly what I needed. Too much square footage to go on my hands and knees for it all.
Awesome! Happy to help!
Thank you for helping me how to learn to mop 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You are welcome
I just got into a situation where my dad got upset because there was too much water on the floor although i was trying to dry the floor by soaking the mop first. Thank you for this informative video at least you're not insulting anyone for not knowing how to mop or forgetting how to mop.
Happy to help👍
Thanks for teaching me how to use a mop properly now

my parents never really made me clean and whenever I was the one who had to clean in class during Fridays I always felt so stupid :,( I hope u know how much your videos help even after so many years. ❤

You are very welcome!
Great video! 👍 Really helpful
Thanks!
I understand this man to the fullest
Thank you. I hate to mop. This makes it look easy.
You are welcome!
Thanks for a nice presentation. Just a couple of suggestions, especially regarding floors that are not new and are high traffic areas (bathrooms especially): although you did mention cleaning along "the trim" how about a few more suggestions for cleaning along "the edges" of your tile floor and most of all, how about those corners where the dirt and the gunk piles up like little snow drifts (and the old wax for the non-waxless floors). Thanks again.
You soak floors in squares and then mop up the excess water 💦 it gets the edges and corners funk clean
Thanks for the information
Awesome video, now i have no more excuses
Glad you found it valuable!🙂
I’m terrible at cleaning and don’t know where to start . This was really helpful .
Welcome to the channel Ashleigh! I have a playlist series on the channel entitled “Cleaning Routines.” You should start there and then if there are specific things you want to know how to clean along the way you will find them on the channel as well.

This is great if you have theses kinds of floors.so many different kinds of floors. You should do a video on old vinal kitchen floors.
Very helpful! New subscriber🔔👍🏻🌼🌸🌺🌻
Happy to help, welcome to the channel!!!🙂
I use the Vileda Easy Wring mop. It's like a good old string mop, but the bucket has a pedal that spins the mop head to quickly and easily remove the excess water but still keep it wet enough, works great. You can also remove the head and throw it in the washing machine (I wash it with bleach to effectively remove stains and disinfect it at the same time).
I was spoiled by my mom so much I never clean anything.. long story short I got bad grades and had to work like this thanks helping man
happy to help!
very good demonstration - and I want to say hello to both you and Mr. Fuzzball! Sweet Dreams Mr. Fuzzball! I just cleaned my bathroom floor. Thanks again for the tips! - Rob in Los Angeles
Thanks for the comment Mr Rob!
What got you into starting a cleaning business?
Ha! Now that's a long story.
Basically, I kinda fell into it by accident. I was fired from a local air conditioning company for my reluctance of crawling under houses. My wife had started cleaning homes on the side to bring in a little extra income and since I was unemployed I figured I would give her a hand. Here we are 12 years later and I am still unemployed lol.
What kept me in cleaning, was after doing some number crunching, I was making more money cleaning part time then when I was working full time at the air condition place! Or working full-time at any job for that matter.
Thanks for replying - that was very nice. That a really interesting story, buy the way - I wish you the best of success - and you really should think of getting into some sort of comedy work part time - to see if you like it - you just seem like you have a little something in you that people would like. Just a tip. Good night! - Rob
It was very helpful

Ha! Love it! The quote I mean.
Thought it was just me that liked the straight left to right movement! That's how I was taught to do mopping.
Thats the correct way👍🙂
Your videos are funny too 😂♥️
Glad you are enjoying them🙂
This was useful. I just subscribed
Happy to help! Welcome to the channel 🙂
@@CleanWithConfidence thanks. I tried your tip today. It worked better than what I used to do. Thanks a lot ☺️
Nice clean shoes you got there ;-)
Ha! Thanks bro. I use my running shoes to clean lol.
I've never learnt how to mop or sweep the floor. I've tried doing it but after five minutes I get so tired.
This video makes mopping look so easy and simple. Even after watching this video repeatedly and tried mopping many times and I'm still not able to do it properly. I can't figure where I'm going wrong.
I can relate! It takes muscles and practice to get used to it! I was over 30 when I finally mastered sweeping! I remember my arms getting SO tired at first - but after several months it was no longer a problem.
About mopping - getting good at that has taken much longer because I had a large family and it was always hard to find a time to do it WHEN no one would be walking on it. Mopping uses the same muscles as sweeping, so once you've got those muscles, you can do either.
Amrita you doing better at mopping now?
Thanks!
You are welcome
I have to mop the floor in a gas station, this is super helpful!
Great! Happy to help!
Thank you so much for this whenever i look up how to mop they havw the spinning mop and. Neve told me how to ring out the mop

Thank u!!! Big up

What is your opinion about Bissell Crosswave wet-dry vaccum? I have been doing the manual mopping two phase method for my large ceramic tile floor which is quite exhausting and been thinking of switching to a wet-dry vaccum.
Never tried it actually
I like this
How long does it get to take the floors to get dry completly
I enjoyed watching your video. I am dealing with sticky floors
Here is a video I made about how to fix sticky floors: th-cam.com/video/WyEO6GdKpFc/w-d-xo.html
Hey buddy, another great video, informative and fun, you'd make a great teacher...a very hot one!!! Although not too sure about wringing out a mop by hand??? I always use a wringer inside the bucket, BUT it's all about personal preferences. Really enjoyed it, and I wish you and your business even more continued success. Maybe you could do a 'how to clean your pool' vid, wearing some speedos....I'd love to see that!!!....at least think about it!!! Take care buddy 😀👍
Hey AJ glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes how you wring a mop is just a personal preference thing. As long as the job gets done that's all that matters!!
+Clean With Confidence Absolutely I agree mate, and you do a great job. I really envy how in America your homes are so spacious, I wished we had homes like that, and they're so beautifully made too. Once again thank you for a real good video, all the best to you my friend.😊👍👍
I like your thumbnail for this one. It looks like you are letting out a battle cry before clashing with the forces of floor dirt.
You are absolutely correct!!!
Also great video, love cleaning so this is good stuff to know.
Thank you
Is there a level 3 cleaning? Never mopped anything before, but I bought a house recently, and then I got hit with a flood. My basement is like an alluvial plain.
Thanks bro
You are welcome
nice vid, dude
Thank you!
Superb
Thanks!
Do thanks for the tips I'll make sure to like share and subscribe your video with my friends but for real I thought I heard my sister phone it was actually your video but thanks bro you're the best
You are welcome! Glad you liked the content.
Do you have a video on how to clean mop head especially when its entangled with stray hairs?
Sure don't. The only thing you can do is use the cleaning technique in the video or pull them out one by one with your fingers. I don't recommend putting mop heads in the washing machine because I hate having to untangle all the strands. You can avoid getting alot of hair in the mop by sweeping of vacuuming the floors first before you begin mopping. Good luck!
#1. investing in a mob bucket with a wringer is well worth the investment.
#2. I buy mop handles that allow for replacing the mop head. In this way, I can choose different weights of mop heads and have at least two mop heads on hand. One for initial cleaning and the first rinse and the second mop head of rinsing only. After the floors are done, I hang the mop heads on a clothes line, fence, or a saw horse and rinse throughly with the hose and allow them to dry outside.
#3. If you think you are NOT going to end up either bending over or on your hands and knees with a clean cloth or sponge to get the baseboards clean after the mop left splashes or residue then perhaps you should inspect your baseboards again.
This is what I do for really dirty floors (or anything else that can tolerate water). I put my water/solutions down (a couple of cups or more) and just cover the floor with the mop. When it's all soaking, leave it alone for about 20 minutes. The solution will dissolve most of the dirt without you having to scrub it over and over again. When you go back, just mop up the loose water and rinse if you want to. The tough stuff comes right up. I use this technique on my stove, counters, windowsills, floors, sinks, porches, etc. It's like letting your dishes soak in the sink for awhile. It gets out most of the ground-in dirt with just a few swipes.

Nice
Thank you!
Love your presentation. One suggestion for your next video. You might want to add the cleaning up after mopping step. Rinse and wring mop, clean bucket, store mop where it can dry out, and so forth.
Yes sir, I actually already did a video on that. The video is called "How To Clean a Mop."
You are so sweet. You don't seem judgy or condescending. I'm having my kids subscribe.
The only thing is I want to give you my spinwave! Life is much easier but I want you to do a video and show ME (45 year old woman) how to keep the streaks out!
Welcome to the channel! Typically, if floors are streaky it's for 1 of 3 reasons. 1, they are still dirty. 2, too much cleaning solution was used. 3, they were still a little too wet and not dried properly. A tip for drying you floors is to turn the ceiling fan on high while you are mopping.
@@CleanWithConfidence thank you!!

I think you may have answered this down below but not sure. I always thought mopping was a two phase job: first--you apply the pine sol as you demonstrate but then two you finish with a "clean rinse mop" to remove any other remaining residue from the floor. Will experiment with just phase one and use a small amount of pine sol and see how that works. Thanks for the video!
Yes sir, you are referring to the slop mopping technique. The first phase leaves the floor really wet and allows the cleaner to loosen up the soil. You can even scrub the floor with a deck brush during this time. After that you dry the floor with phase two.
Can I trim my long string mop with scissors? Thank you for the video!
Probably so, I would just be concerned about it falling apart afterwards as you use it.
I wish you would add affiliate links to your videos because I totally have to go searching for O-Cedar mop and all the materials you use in your videos. I would love to know that you are getting a piece of the pie from all these companies that you are helping. Because of you I actually know what I'm doing and I feel confident and excited to clean more often. I used to hate it, but now I love it.
Thanks for the testimony! I am glad you have found the videos helpful!🙂
do you use the mop to mop the whole area in one go or do we have to rince it in clean water and THEN dampen it in soap water?
Not sure what your question is. You just have to change the water as needed. Once the water becomes dirty you have to change it to continue mopping. If the floor is very dirty it might take 3-4 buckets of water to get it clean.
Thomas, great videos sir 👍🏼 Serve just switched from laminate floors to ceramic tile all over. Should I ditch my microfibre flat spray mop and go back to string mop? Tiles seem ok with the flat mop, but maybe because they are still be new?
Thanks! Yes sir I think a string mop works way better on ceramic tile than a flat mop.
@@CleanWithConfidence gotcha, so flat mop isn't bad per se, but string mop just way better !
@@the_judge_8262 A string mop will do better a getting down in the grout lines. That's really the only difference. Also, string mops are better for really dirty floors. Flat mops are more for maintenance type work.
How do you clean/sanitize the string mop for your cleaning business.... or does everyone get their own ??.. I'm just wondering because I've been struggling finding what mop to use in my own. Thank you!
Just check my channel. I have a video about how to actually clean the mop itself, or just type "how to clean a mop" into the search bar on youtube and you will find my video.
