    Recently I just got into cleaning routine (yes, I'm gross and disgusting and lazy like that) and your videos are my go-to cleaning videos (plus, the videos are super inspiring!) I've been using deck mop for my house and I can tell you how frustrating it is! Not only hairs and dust sticking in the cotton fibers, it looks yucky too (one of many reasons why I hate mopping) After watching this, I want to try out microfiber mop. Thank you for sharing and inspiring us!

    I recently started watching your channel. A couple of months ago I picked up the O Cedar spin mop. The first time I used it I had to throw it into the washing machine. Since I find that it cleans very well and isn't grungy after each use. But I still throw into the washer when done. The spinner on the bucket really dries the mop out well. It is the best mop I've ever used.

    My mom doesn't mop. She washes the floor on her hands and knees with rags. She thinks that mops just spread dirt around.

    • @lorineidtinytoadplot744
      @lorineidtinytoadplot744 5 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I agree with her but, I don't get on my hands and knees, I use a mop with a flat bottom, the sturdy kind, and about 3 or 4 cotton towels, depending how dirty the floor is. I find the plastic wash cloths / micro fiber don't absorb and just smear dirt all over. Cotton absorbs the dirt and grime without leaving streaks.
      After I'm done I throw all the cotton towels ( had towel or dish towel ) in the washing machine with the dog bed and some cotton rugs, if they need to be washed. Easy peasy, and clean ☕💃
      PS my dog bed is a small blanket or a dark colored towel so its easy to just throw in the wash.

      It is true. I found a way around it. No need. Just make sure when the mop water begins to change color dump it, rinse the mop, and keep going. Sweep big debris then vacuum the floor prior to mopping. Vacuuming after sweeping will show you that a lot is on the floor after a sweep. Make sure your mop water doesn't turn black. As soon as the mop water turns colors dump it. I tend to dump multiple times when mopping. Cleaner mop water leads to better results. Sometimes you need to mop twice if it is really dirty. After the mop water dries vacuum the floor again (you can vacuum the next day if you get tired). I vacuum a lot. Get good claning stuff. Buy namebrand mops like o-cedar microfiber and see if it helps.

    • @kona6812

      @@sparklyrainbowbunny noooo steam mop on laminate! Laminate is a foto on chipwood! If you steam it water will soak into the chipwood and the edges will swell! Better take a alcohol base cleaner and use as less water as possible (I spray the solution onto my mop myself)!

    • @kona6812
      @kona6812 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @The Unknown vacuum the floor first, then mop it. If it is persist dirt than appley little solution direct on the spot and let time work for you, but not on the edges! After 2 or 3 minutes wipe it off with the mop. The mop should never be wet, so you don't ever have streaks. You can ask for melamine sponges to get rid off the most difficult adhesions.

The swiffers were always a waste of money for us... they're a joke for those with kids. If I had to do only one: Mop or Vacuum... I'd have to say Id prefer to vacuum. The head is round, has microfibre 'hair' and you squeeze it using the foot pedal and it literally spins the water out ... when our first one died we bought a different type and totally regretted it. I will never turn back now :)
    By the way, great videos!! I've actually been enjoying cleaning my house lately ... I'm doing it in the right headspace and its waaaay more fun :)

      I had both the Roomba and the Scooba (I think it was called that -- anyway the one that scrubbed) I found they were more trouble than they were worth because they always had to be emptied. I had the ones that went back to their "homes" and recharged automatically. Also the batteries were difficult to find, usually had to be ordered (for which there was down time), and were quite expensive. No one in my area performs maintenance or repairs them; so any warranty or maintenance, back to the factory they go (more down time). And then they don't really do that great of a job when they are working and running. Unless someone is handicapped, I wouldn't give either one of them a recommendation!

    Thanks for your video. I feel that people should use what they want, so I'm not trying to push my preference on others, just trying to share why I made my choice. I used regular brooms and mops most of my life, but they aren't too good at cleaning. Some years ago, when Swiffer came out with their first model, a dry sweeper, I needed a new broom. I had seen the commercials on TV, and then checked one out in the store. It was extremely lightweight, which is important for disabled people, and I liked how well it had seemed to work in the commercials, so I bought it. I later bought a Swiffer duster too. The head on my first Swiffer broom eventually broke. I kept the stick to help me walk to and from my mailbox, and to keep my bathroom door propped open when I had a fan on in the hall. I kept missing my Swiffer broom because it was so easy to use, but didn't get around to buying a new one until a while after I moved to a handicapped accessible apartment. I finally bought a new one, but upgraded to a wet & dry version. I had also bought a wheeled office chair to use in the kitchen. I scoot around the kitchen in that chair as I do my chores. Because Swiffers are so light and easy to use I even sweep the kitchen floor while sitting down in my wheeled office chair. Most of the mess gets thrown out with the pad, and I just use a damp paper towel to pick up and throw away the little bit that's left. I also like the wet pads for mopping the floors, but one should sweep or vacuum the floor before mopping it.
    For really dirty outside use, I do still recommend using the old fashioned mops and brooms, but for inside, my Swiffer is a big help.
    I get around with a rolling walker, or 2 canes, or scoot around the kitchen on an office chair now, so I really appreciate a lightweight cleaning tool that actually works. If others like a different product that's cool, but my Swiffer works well for me.

    I have a love/hate relationship with the tile in our house. It's light-colored but it's also textured so it hides the dirt it traps in the little grooves on the face of the tile. Basically, I end up sweeping and mopping every other day! I use a Cedar double-sided mop (link: m.samsclub.com/ip/o-cedar-professional-dual-action-microfiber-flip-mop-with-extra-refill/prod1113583) and a very diluted floor cleaning solution in a spray bottle. It saves me from having to pull out a mop bucket every other day! Also, I have another spray bottle I use for just plain water to "rinse" the cleaning solution off of the tile afterwards. I find the rinse at the end really makes a difference in how my tile looks!!

    I mopped about 45 mins ago, something I do weekly. Just about any regular mop I've used as left ugly water stains on my floors so after some searching, I made a cover for my flathead broom using a microfiber towel and use that along with a floor cleaning mix recipe in a spray bottle (equal mix of water, vinegar and rubbing alcohol with 1 tbs of dishshoap). I spray the mix on the floor then I wipe off with the microfiber mop, one small section at a time. Much like exercise, I prefer to get that done early in the day so that I have to deal with it later because of all my chores, floor cleaning is what takes most of my time.

      1. There is a difference between "sterilizing" and "disinfecting". Sterilizing is killing ALL microorganisms on the surface and IMPOSSIBLE without special machine. As an example, surgical instruments are not disinfected, they are sterilized; floors in a hospital are disinfected. Disinfection can be done by using chemicals like bleach, using UV light or simple boiling.

    Sometimes you just have to take what life gives you. 'Cause life is like a mop, and sometimes life gets full of dirt and crud and bugs and hairballs and stuff... you, you, you gotta clean it out. You, you, you gotta put it in here, and rinse it off and start all over again. And, and sometimes, sometimes life sticks to the floor so bad, you know a mop, a mop, it's not good enough, it's not good enough. You, you gotta get down there, like, with a toothbrush, you know, and you gotta, you gotta really scrub 'cause you got to get it off. You gotta really try to get it off. But if that doesn't work, that doesn't work, you can't give up. You gotta, you gotta stand right up. You, you gotta run to a window and say, *"Hey! These floors are dirty as hell, and I'm not gonna take it any more!"*
