I use the mini 2 paired to my smartphone so I can view the maps, send texts, and access all the other features of the mini on my phone.

You can't get a one-gallon bucket that holds two gallons.

I bet you Garmin will make that two gallon bucket sooner or later 😁

Can't the GpsMap devices run in standby mode for 30 days like the Explorer? It's obvious that if you run a larger screen and a better processor to run better maps, battery life won't be as good.
But maybe I'm wrong and it is possible to have everything, in which case you just found a great business opportunity.

Not so obvious because my edge has much larger screen and battery for days. The Inreach also use battery sending gps data to the satellites to update tracking information. In that case the 66i goes up to 300h and the mini 2 and explorer up to 30 days.

@@reversingentropy Ok do the 66i has almost 13 days of of battery life which is about half of the battery life of the mini 2.
Garmin probably could improve that if they updated the processor but 13 days is not the 3 days you mentioned in the video.
Anyway, there are several other companies making satellite communication devices which use the Iridium satellite network. Perhaps those would be a better fit for you.

@@yarpenzigrin1893 13 days ? Did you test this your self ? Not saying i dont belive you, but I thought 3 days based on other TH-camrs real life testing.

@@reversingentropy 300 hours is 13 days. Does the Mini 2 battery actually last 30 days (720 hours)?

@@yarpenzigrin1893 no, probably not. Like i said going off other peoples experience. The consensus seems to be that if you are not careful you might not have much battery when you really need it on te 66i and that the mini 2 or explorer + don't suffer from this problem.
