    Thanks for the review. I was definitely interested in in the 66i but Im thinking of getting best of both worlds with the 86i. Are the features ( on land) maps ect the same as the 66i. Thanks in advanced. Cheers Australia

    Nice video. I believe the 86 can record the raw data, is that correct? Do you have any experience of using the data with the RTKLIB program to improve the accuracy? I’m wondering if when combined I could get the accuracy down to cm accuracy.
    Thanks

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly i don't have any working knowledge of the RTKLIB programme. This unit produces a .gpx or .fit file, as long as the programme enables you to import that you will be all good.

    Hye, wanted to know.. is 86i good for road navigation.. as i wanted to buy 1 for my fishing boat, and also wanted to use them for my cross country motorcycle riding.. hope can help clear things out, can't find any on internet

      I personally would go for the Montana 700i if you are looking for a multi activity GPS unit, as this comes pre installed with city navigator. Garmin's Car SatNav system, made for motorcycling. I hope this helps.

    What is the battery life like? Are batteries removable? I use a garmin gps for work doing bush work and have an inreach for safety. It would be GREAT to have a single unit, but no battery can last -25-35 Celsius.

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks for your question. The 86i will give you 25 hours of battery life, to extend it beyond this you can't swap it so you will need a power bank.
      I hope this helps.

      If you are wanting to put Garmin YOPO ACTIVE maps on your unit you can purchase these directly from Garmin - www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/586905/pn/010-D1566-00 - if you are wanting TOPO PRO which country are you after? I look forward to hearing from you.

      Apologies we have not tested this on water, with maps for the road you can do this for cycling etc, I would recommend checking with Garmin to see if any of their marine chart maps that they sell which are compatible with the 86i would allow for this, we have just been using the unit for Hiking & Cycling, Kind regards

    Which one is better this unit or the Garmin Inreach +. I got the Inreach + for our son who hikes in spots in California where there are no cell towers. Now getting one for our daughter who will do the same situation but in the Colorado Rockies.

    Can this unit read the “hi def relief shading” from the G3 Vision Charts (micro sd)?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly we have not tested what you are asking but Garmin do say the G3 Vision Charts are compatible with the 86i so I assume so. Are you in the UK and do you have the map card in question? If so we can test it for you in our unit if that helps.

      @@ukgpstraining I’m in the states, I haven’t found yet where the 86i is compatible with vision charters, just regular G3 blue charts is all I’ve seen. Learning that it can handle the G3 vision is a big help, thx!

    Thanks for the Video. Is it possible to use it also as normal navigation Device, so search for an Address like on Car Navigation and then get a route calculated and will it show turn left / right Infos? For Marine ussage, or Hiking, do I need a different Map to buy? Can I choose, if I want to get nevigation on hikik tracks or water (for Marine ussage)? Thanks

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the message, the device is not really designed for car navigation due to the size of the screen and no voice alerts, but it is compatible with Gamin City Navigator maps which do allow postcode searches in Great Britain where we are based and have tested this function, you can with the city navigator maps route on roads and get turn left turn right instructions, Garmin also sell a range of maps suitable for marine use that are compatible we have not used these before ourselves, Kind regards GPS Training

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can download satellite images directly onto the unit using wifi for free.
      If you also download to PC/ Mac and then transfer to GPS you will pay. This GPS is meant more for on the water but can be used on the land, if being used for solely hiking the 67 is a better option - th-cam.com/video/KlI64gT1Cjs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OOtsBIflmq9a4g4S

      I am guessing you are trying to message using the Explore app, if so I would unpair your phone from the GPS and repair it and see if taht sorts it. Make sure you also have the connect app closed down as this may be causing problems.
      If you bought the GPS from us or have one of our support packages please do give us a call and our tech team will get your sorted.

    what is the difference between the 86i and 66i ?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main differences are - 86i floats, therefore is slightly larger and it does not come pre loaded with Garmin’s TOPO Active maps that you get on the 66i.
      I hope this helps.

      Many thanks for your question. The Garmin GPSMAP 86i is very similar to the Garmin GPSMAP 66i i.e. a top end outdoor GPS unit that has two way satellite communication, but the 86i is slightly larger and has buoyancy built into it. What a waste of time and money!
    Way overpriced, huge, clumsy and ridiculously fiddly menus !
    Pure Stoneage technology level from A to B ...
    Any modern mobil phone has better user interface and costs a third.
    If Inreach safety is a priority, Mini could be a half way acceptable option...

      I purchased one for our son who loves to hike and it still works just like it did like on day 1. His Garmin Inreaxh + is 6 years old and has lasted longer than any smart cell phones, I have ever had.. I have no regrets. Gonna purchase a second one for our adult daughter. She hikes in the sticks deep in Colorado Rockies where the cell phones don’t reach. I don’t buy Starbucks, I don’t eat out much and I only replace my smart cell phones every 5 yrs when y husband’s job gives him a new one. I get his hand me downs . I value Peace of mind.
