    I have the Ka-Bar model 1245 Tanto 8", and it's the knife that's meant to compete with the Leatherneck. Purely a combat knife.....I can see no other purpose for it. As of right now, if society melted down, this would be my go-to Urban Combat Knife. But I'm definitely going to get this Modified Tanto and replace it with that.
    Before I got my Fox Knives 598 fixed blade Karambit, the 1245 Tanto had the sharpest tip of any knife I've ever owned. It is absolutely needle sharp, and you can see the tip glitter. That Karambit however completely smashes it out of the water in the sharp department. But it's a far different knife design and not really comparable except for sharpness.
    If you get a chance to review any of the Fox Knives Karambits, I highly recommend you buy one and review it. The 598 is the only fixed blade model they make (to my knowledge), and I like it that way. Certainly nothing wrong with the folders though. Quality knives with good steel and terrifyingly sharp!

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wonderful commentary my friend, thanks for sharing, been wanting to preview a karambit and Fox has some nice models, never pulled the plug as my states knife laws are very strick, but I'll get one for review one day, agreed on the kabar for a good replacement as a self defense only knife, it's a sweet model, I would recommend a different sheath though, thanks for watching

    Would be interesting once you refine the edge to do some testing with sheathing and re-sheathing then putting it through the sharpness meter and see. And to my knowledge a larger Bowie is designed to be front heavy to be a effective chopper. If the POB is close to the handle it would be more of the fighting knife genre and not an effective chopper. Just my 2 cents. Loved this video brother!

    Hey, the Bowie is suppose to be heavy. It was meant to break a sabre. You hold it with the spine down, so you don't damage the edge when blocking a sabre slash. Also, when stabbing, the edge is up and cuts out and up as it is withdrawn. 🙂 native Texan and Army vet, I have read a little on the history and use of a Bowie knife. Though I'd share.

    I just bought one of these, and *I love it!* Except... regarding the sheath, I want to ask Kabar, *"What happened?.."*
    It is *terrible!* - You ab-so-lute-ly can-not get a fighting grip while sheathed; and that stupid Kydex flappy part where the belt frog rivets on, has a sharp edge of its own - taking a rather nasty chunk from my middle finger knuckle.
    I get what they were doing trying to pirate off of dive knife design, but they really should have paid closer attention to the source material designs, including hilts. Dive knives often have narrow finger areas, with wider backstrap hilts, specifically so you can grab it with gloves on, and still use the button locks. That doesn't work well with the Kabar trademark mostly-round oval hilt. That flap is just... awful design.
    I reckon I'll carve my own sheath. But for this price... I shouldn't have to.

    • @JoeSteel1
      @JoeSteel1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes thanks for commenting....they dropped the ball on the sheath...cause it falls in the tactical line of knives....but the blade is the highlight of this piece...new sheath can be made...but for the $$ could have been better executed
