    Great review man. I’ve had the 1245 Tanto for years. Thinking one of these has to come into my life soon. Thanks for sharing yours!

    I know it's supposed to be a "modified tanto", but honestly, I bought mine because it reminded me of the antique knives I've seen that were made from broken cavalry sabers.

  • @kevinmorrice
    @kevinmorrice ปีที่แล้ว +3

    i hate that its called a "modified" tanto when you realise its design is actually the traditional tanto style

    Finally a good review on this knife. Its good to know that the sheath doesn't dull the knife. This is a problem I have with the Cold Steel Secure-Ex sheaths. It seems that hard shell sheaths shouldn't be form fitting to avoid dulling it and retention should be on the guard or somewhere away from the blade.

    • @FreestyleSwordsman
      @FreestyleSwordsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the sheath does dull the knife I had to change sheathes

      @@FreestyleSwordsman - So why do Ka-Bar, Cold Steel and other companies still use these sheaths? How bad do they really dull?

    • @FreestyleSwordsman
      @FreestyleSwordsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raleighepp5274 because they’re cheap lol. And depending on how tight the fit they can dull them substantially, but usually it just takes that “razor” edge away and leaves it usable but not hair popping sharp.

    Hi, sorry to bother you, I've been asking everywhere about the protection of this type of knife, I'm a newbie, and I would like to ask, can the surface of this type of coated knife be oiled?

    This knife seems fantastic for cutting only and is very sharp. Other blade designs shaped like the Becker BK7 BK9 do good at cutting and also chopping.

  • @Vladpryde
    @Vladpryde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have the 1245 version and the tip on that thing glitters it's so sharp. I'm definitely going to be getting this Modified Tanto version though.
    If you want a terrifyingly sharp knife, try a Fox Knives 598 fixed blade Karambit. I have that knife as well, and it is THE sharpest knife I've ever handled in my entire life. Nothing else even comes close, not even the Ka-Bar 1245.

    I think this is the best kabar out there. I have the sp6, very good knife and steel. This tanto has the best guard on any kabar. Nice and thick. The marines version was designed as a utility and the guard tilts the wrong way.

    "5 minutes in and the knife is still in the sheath" LOL! I totally agree! The only thing worse than 5 minutes in and the knife is still in the sheath, is unboxing videos. I could care less about watching somebody open their mail. To make it even worse, many of them babble for 5 minutes before they even open the box. I just want to see the knife, and tell me your thoughts on it.
    Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of buying one of these myself. Kabars tend to come with that toothy edge. My USMC Fighting knife was like that too. It looks like they sharpen with a 60 grit belt and call it a day.
    Not that it really matters, but I'm from NY, and it's pronounced Oh-Lee-Ann, not Oh-Lean. Not a big deal though, most everyone pronounces it wrong, lol. It has nothing to do with how good or bad the knife is.

    This was a very good review! I am considering between this vs cold steel 3v magnum tanto 2 (price isnt an issue as such), curious to know your opinion sir.

    • @FreestyleSwordsman
      @FreestyleSwordsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the magnum tanto 12, it really depends on your intended use. Plan to get a 3rd party sheath regardless of which knife ya choose. The glass infused nylon ones will dull the knives. The kabar has more meat, the 3v takes and holds a better edge. All comes down to preference in the end.

      Both are good for self defense. Kabar has a better shaped kissaki, more traditional rather than the chisel/American style.

    The classic Ka Bar does nothing for me. It is like, it is ok but not interested. The updated grips vice stacked leather is a big improvement. Classic Tanto vice the Chisel Tip type Tanto is really nice. Hmm. Not Rat Tailed tang -thick, super nice. Some knives are so thick they are more crowbar than knife. Looks like the new one you have is a dedicated knife meant to cut. I am sure it can take a beating as well being a Ka Bar. Very impressed.
