Dr Gersh clearly explained estrogens. I’ve been on a hormonal rollercoaster for 51 years starting with a cancer- induced hysterectomy on my 19th birthday, to Premarin for 2 decades, then my primary care provider taking me 100% off estrogen because it was a cancer risk, but then I started getting new problems like thyroid, inflammation, osteoporosis (which I since reversed to osteopenia) and other gynecological issues. Now, my new 😢gynecologist put me back on estrogen , saying I should never had been taken off it - but only low dose.
I wonder if Dr Girsh has different suggestions for those with early surgical menopause vs typical menopause. I appreciate her attitude on whole health & lifestyle.

I would like to know why at age 42 I got Breast Cancer. I was told it was estrogen fed. I read the path report which said, "angry and aggressive". Chemo killed my ovaries; I went immediately into menopause. Dr thought that was good and said I had too much estrogen anyway as it was killing me! He said "stay away from any estrogen products". Why did my body turn on me? I have been a scared woman the rest of my life. Oh, I also had fibroids at the time and have long thick full hair. HUM

That sounds very frustrating. While the doctor was probably trying to simplify the conversation and be helpful, it's important to understand that estrogen alone doesn't cause cancer. If it did, everyone would have cancer because we all (men and women) have estrogen. I hope this episode gives you some peace of mind about estrogen and that you find a functional doctor to support you on your journey.

I’ve learned about proper eating and feel that the whole estrogen thing is very complicated. Thanks for your podcast.

Felice Gersh MD talks about progesterone (brakes) being the balance to estrogen (gas). It seems like she doesn't like the term estrogen dominant. You can still be low in estrogen but have too much relative to your progesterone level. Also check out David Brownstein MD on iodine research. Different parts of the body need different nutrients when something isn't healing properly. For muscles it's calcium and magnesium. For ligaments it's manganese. For glands like thyroid breast ovaries uterus prostate pancreas etc it's iodine. He uses Lugol's Solution bc it has potassium iodide and elemental or nascent iodine. Different glands prefer different forms. For example thyroid prefers potassium iodide like in salt added to prevent goiters (however it can evaporate and not getting as much) and breast tissue prefers iodine.

40:00 What if I have a Mirena IUD AND im on Lo Estro and I dont get any periods, is that safe? This was prescribed for my endometriosis. I just continuously take estrogen, but I could take a weekly break every month if that is better? (I am 42 and I understand you cant give any health advice but lets just pretend)

Talk with your doctor about this because it's a very personal decision.

@@TheSpaDr I will just have to keep researching because my Dr. didn't seem to have an opinion either way and doesn't seem to know.
