I’ve just started hrt at the tender age of 60 after years of suffering and not knowing any of this! I wish I had known 10 years ago after struggling with work and life. unfortunately my GP knows nothing about menopause, I wasn’t even offered it by my gynaecologist. It’s actually quite disgusting that women have been neglected by the medical system to the extent that doctors barely study menopause at medical school. It’s crazy when women make up half the population!
You're absolutely right however if you notice that the more men that are physicians that started podcast or having women physicians and their research and explaining to them doctors like Dr Peter ativia Andrew huberman and I forgot Sarah something I forgot a last name they were very interested in they listened to to prove to the world that yes it's a was a terrible inequity to our health menopause. But like you can't get a physician to spend more than 6 mins and when I ask a question about my hormones and hashimoto's they literally say nothing, only ok I have other patients. This is so degrading to dismiss me anytime I have a question about my bc cancer, thyroid nodules, thyroid labs my comorbidities. I'm so done with their terminating me saying they couldn't satisfy my demand. One oncologist lied and said he could no longer be my oncologist because after the chemotherapy I would not takel the AI therapy anastrozole . 2 oncologist . I have complained prior to their releasing me as a patient so maybe that is the real reason But if it is a real reason it's the wrong reason and they should be held accountable for their lack of knowledge in a hormonal field because they are breast cancer prostate cancer deal with lung cancers. So if it's breast cancer or ovarian prostrate you best believe it's driven out of hormone

I just went to the doctor today, Jan. 31, 2024, and told the nurse that I was going to start it even if it was bad for me. I have been suffering for almost 8 years this spring. I infuriates me that I have suffered so long after asking over and over. This taboo topic needs to end. I talk about it every time I can. My GD sent me to the gyn, and she didn't say squat either. No explanation whatsoever. She did put an IUD but didn't tell me why. I plan on staying on it for the rest of my life. I just turned 59.
@@357QueenBee, I hear you. I suffered for 13 years and finally found someone to help me. I’m on BHRT and couldn’t be happier. I’m sleeping again. Plus my blood pressure came back down to where it was before. I started BHRT when I was 57. I’m now 60 years old.
@@TrudyContos-gq1bw there is another doctor here on TH-cam talking about women on HRT even after cancer. I will start saving these videos so I can share them. She talked about using the patch under the waist. There is another doctor that is so sick of the dismissal of women on menopause that she started seeing women via zoom.
Trying to get multiple doctors to have a conversation about HRT was so demoralizing and frustrating. The healthcare system is failing women even when we try to advocate for ourselves. Appreciate the video/interviews.
Please consider having on some doctors who think quite the opposite of what Dr. Gunter says. Doctors like Dr. Louise Newson from the UK, Dr. Mary Claire Haver from Texas and Dr. Avrum Bluming, an oncologist who has helped hundreds of women in the past twenty plus years. He wrote the book Estrogen Matters. It would be nice to hear the other side as well.
Agree! We need updated info and not being talked down to. Women are suffering! We have 1/3 of our life to live and we deserve a good quality of life and want to PREVENT heart disease which is the #1 killer of women in which is directly affected by losing estrogen, as well as decreasing risk of Alzheimer’s and osteoporosis. It’s not just symptom management and it’s not just lowest dose for shortest period of time either. I didn’t need antidepressants I needed estrogen! Once I got the hormones needed (not compounded) everything turned around.

I am glad i came across this video and thankful for evry comment here...I am active doing my homework since my GP did not want to consider prescribing any HRT, I am 51 and live in the Nederlands, the country where you must be dying to get your Dr to look thoroughly into your case 😢...i am going through hell at the moment, in every way, my body hurts, my bones, my sleep is disturbed, enxiety hitting hard, sad dont even know why,...and yet i do fight all that by excercising earing healthy and practice meditation, but seems like that is not helping much ...i feel unhappy....thank you for sharing everyone and for reading me ❤
Do whatever it takes to find the right practitioner if you have to pay out of pocket. It will save your life. I know I’ve been there and at 59 am just now getting help I need. But I’ve lost a lot of time and it shortened my life I’m sure of that. The medical profession has failed all of us everywhere.
I just started HRT 2 days ago. I'm 46, thought I had been going crazy for the past 10 years. Within 4 hours of using my patch. I feel like alive again. I've had a dark blanket over me for the past 8 years had all kinds of tests and everything came back perfect. Some to a women doctor on Friday just gone (Sunday today) and within 10 mins she said all that you have spoke about is classic Perry. I didn't have hot sweets or the normal things that everyone talks about. I have had anxfor the past 8 years, I have had Agoraphobia, depression, then, low moods. Awake at night and up in the day or having 100 naps a day and still feeling tired. I now after a few days have been to the shops up early, to be early waking up feeling amazing. I'm so excited x Girls go get a patch HRT patch has done more to me in a weekend, I recommend them
If you want great menopause information you should listen to Dr. Barbie Taylor, Dr Louise Newson, and Dr Mary Claire. They are all a wealth of information. You should have them on your show.

We've known this for over 20 years, but the HRT specialists don't know the brain research. You must get high doses to handle mental health and food drives. Energy depends on both estradiol and testosterone. So, you need all 3 for the brain! Estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. Get it any way you can. YT "Create A Menopause Recovery". I coach women on all aspects of menopause health. We have brain fog solutions, but it is a process.
Simon, this 57 yo postmenopausal woman is deeply grateful that you apply your thoughtful and in-depth interview style drilling into questions for women and both those with limited time and adequate time (not just here in this episode but in others) and using the concept of different avatars/profiles with different needs. I plan to listen to this again for sure (having just completed it). Have gained so much from listening to your podcast over the last couple of years (as well as reading your book) and have made changes large and small including a daily drink of fortified soymilk, adding ferments regularly, picking up a regular resistance training habit and hitting that hard while adjusting my pre-existing running habit to include a great deal more time in zone 2. I've followed Joel Fuhrman's eating plan (another guest) for the last 2-3 years and between the two of you (very complementary actually - in practice his diet recommendations line up quite well with yours and he is even talking more about protein these days especially for the older set) I am healthier now than I ever was. Its a relief knowing for those of us that cant take bhrt have other alternatives..ive been weight training for over 25 years and have been in menopause for 10yrs and it helped tremendously, now i need to bump up my wright even more. Still struggle with sleep but working on it. Just bought her book!

Progesterone has beneficial effects on the body beyond protecting the uterus. Its a muscle relaxant, a sedative...and has other as yet unstudied larger effects. For instance that menopausal anxiety is often addressed or reduced via progesterone. Not to mention the ability to sleep....
I wish I had that reaction - I had the opposite. I went on micronized Progesterone and it made my blood pressure raise and brought on PMDD symptoms. It felt like my heart was hurting. I guess I'm one of the few who have Progesterone intolerance. My doctor won't let me try alternatives - maybe due to the risks of the synthetic version?? I've been on the pill, and I don't recall having any issues during that time.
Still listening to this… I’m post menopause by 2years (I’m 51yrs) and didn’t suffer any hot flushes, sweating or disturbed sleep. What I have gone through is weight gain and foggy brain. No matter how much I train with weights, resistance & hiking (which I do most days), no weight loss is happening. It’s like my metabolism has completely stopped. I eat very clean & nutrient dense but no matter how much I tried, the calorie in, calorie out, certainly does not work post menopause! This is very deflating and I’m going to try body identical hormones. Got my hormones tested (privately as dr wasn’t interested) and they were extremely low (all 3 of them)…
You might want to Google or search TH-cam for information on losing weight + woman + menopause. As I recall, the harder a peri menopausal or post menopausal woman trains, the more her metabolism shut down.
@@DaneArcher2000 thank you but it’s not that.. I’ve started to lose weight now but I also started bioidentical hormones. Made a world of difference in everything.., I don’t train too crazy either but I still like to train as makes me feel good and my bones strong. I don’t lift really heavy and only do 30 mins hike most days. Hormones were the answer for me….

She really hates alternative practitioners but in my experience I’ve gotten way further with alt med than standard med. And I’ve never been harmed. It’s interesting in this day and age she feels so free to attack alt med when so many of us use it.
She doesn’t look like an empathic person at all. She is a scary narrow vision doctor even though she seems to be promoting better treatment than conventional treatments.
I ONLY got help and taken seriously by a naturopath who never tried to push anything, just suggested the option of HRT to see if it helped. I was so reluctant but I'm glad I decided to try it, been a game changer. I take oral progesterone at night and I fall asleep so quickly now, and once a day apply a cream made by a compound pharmacy of testosterone and estrogen.
I should add that I've had two primary care docs or PAs who knew nothing about HRT, or warned me of it, causing fear, and told me meanly "you can't turn back time." I cried, feeling humiliated. Glad I found alternative medicine.

They unnecessarily took my uterus AND only left me with one half of an ovary claiming it was “functional” without testing my blood once. I fell off a cliff in every way imaginable and suffered terribly as a result for 15 years. Am angry and am damaged.
Every channel I watch, the interviewer asks questions regarding weight gain problems and how to deal with it. They never discuss issues regarding people who NEED to gain weight, gain muscle and who might have difficulty doing so. Once again, I'd like to recommend to please remember to always address both spectrums. Not everyone is overweight. Some people are underweight. I realize many people are overweight. But, I'm underweight, 54, post menopause, in remission from chronic Lyme, etc. I eat super clean and healthy. I see many underweight people even though most are overweight. Address both. Don't leave out the underweight spectrum in podcasts.
Here in US seems like more like a ten year peri-menopause phase. The average age of menopause in the US (Which is considered to be one year after last menstruation cycle) is 52. Most women start seeing hormonal decline symptoms (the most obvious one being skin laxity /wrinkles/thinning/ lack of collagen around the early 40's.

I had to have a complete hysterectomy in 2021, sus 36 cm ovarian cyst, plus a whole ton of smaller cysts. So surgical menopause... I was 36. Dr. Gunter's book was so helpful.

Hi Simon, I am a nutritional medicine practitioner and skin expert, and would love to come on and chat about menopause, skin changes and nutrition. It is great we are beginning to have these open discussions.
My mother suffered so much after her surgical induced menopause, eventually she quit trying at the age of 58 years old. I am not saying any one condition is at fault. Whatever was going on with her was undiagnosed. Considering that we all have a mother, we should be kinder to women. Especially in older age. More research needs to be conducted on women’s health. We deserve better healthcare.

Lots of opinions and handled differently on many channels, as someone who has never taken HRT but went through earlier than some later than others, we are all unique and therefore no one persons symptoms will be the same. Helped the flushes by sleeping with a pet cooling blanket, never been identified as obese, but know others struggle with weight and hair loss, so many symptoms. Help brain fog by playing games, and working on my memory. Won't use medication due to their effects. Great to hear a man who is happy to discuss the Menopause. It would appear different countries have varying opinions also. Thanks for posting. Hope anyone suffering gets the support and aid that they need. Please professionals don't dismiss alternative therapies off the cuff, that is in fact ignorance. I haven't changed my diet, regime to maintain weight I just don't over eat and walk a dog, but maybe I'm lucky.
I am 69 years old and a retired physical therapist . It is very common for both men and women to gain weight in middle age . We all slowly lose muscle mass decade by decade starting at age thirty .Losing muscle mass does lower metabolic rate - you simply use less glucose when your muscle mass has dimi ished. My understanding is that losing Estrogen does lower metabolic rate. I suggest listening to Robert Lustig MD who has multiple podcasts describing how ultraprocessed food contributes to weight gain because of the added sugars-. Excessive sugar is added to o processed foods because for many people these foods are addictive. They can't help coming back for more. This is especially difficult to overcome it f you are middle aged or older. Liquid sugar in sodas or fruit juice are especially egregious- drop these immediately if you need to lose weight. See Dr.Lustigs talks for s detailed explanation.

I have the same issue. My periods were every 25 days like clockwork, maybe every now and then a day late or early. 12 hours after getting the vax I had horrendous cramps which lasted a week despite not being due for 14 days. That was mid ‘21. At the end of ‘21 I had a smear and mentioned to the nurse who arranged an ultrasound (it picked up cysts on my ovaries, after many other tests I found out I have endometriosis which is a whole other story). For a year after the vax my cycle was erratic. Since around the end of ‘22 I started having hot flashes, anxiety, loss of libido, and joint pain. Had my hormones checked in October ‘23 which confirmed I’m in the menopausal range and my ovarian reserve is poor for my age. My last period was 196 days ago. Everyone told me that the vax couldn’t have done anything, but I was perfectly fine before it. It’s a clear watershed in my menstrual life. I don’t know what it did, but I’ve never been right after it. This is a stage I didn’t think I’d reach until I was in my 50s, not when I’d just reached my 40s.
I am in perimenopause it started when I was 41 and got worse and worse I finally got on HRT at the age of 44 ny question is will being on HRT make it easier to lose the fat on my midsection that I've acquired during the past 3 years?

This was incredibly informative! I've been on HRT for two years and hitting the gym for seven, yet I learned so many new things. I've always wanted my endocrinologist to measure my hormone levels during HRT - it just seemed like a logical step. Without that, how do we ensure I'm getting enough of the replacement? Yin yoga and a healthy varied diet of whole foods is hugely beneficial to women of all ages, it builds muscle strength, and a trimmer figure after 9-12 months practice or sooner, without too much but enough strain on the body. Gentle bouncing on a rebounder for a few minutes regularly keeps bones strong (protects against osteoporosis) and clears the lymph system, (glands) Adrenal glands are a different gland that sits on your kidneys.

It has been HELL for me, I get these pain with ectopic heartbeats that really hurt and scare me soooo much. Migraines, diziness, vertigo etc. I don't care about the hot flashes.Its awful but noone talks about that sympthom 😢
Overall great information. I really appreciate the guest's attention to scientific detail. I do disagree with movement of fat to visceral belly fat is an age related issue. What about the drop in estradiol, then body uses estrone which exists in fat. My body at age 38 just changed. No difference in diet or lifestyle, I'm clear on that. Thankfully I'm on HRT at age 42, and I've noticed notable changes in my body just with the hormone therapy. I have not changed my diet or lifestyle.
I like the comparison between hrt and medication for erectile disfunction. Because it goes two ways: yes, treat it with medication if you have to, but lifestyle medicine might just work equally well and go to the root cause. And yes, women, like men, get to choose which route to take. What I don't like about this episode is that it doesn't give the 'try out whole foods plants based route first' advise. After all, that prevents loads of stuff, aside from hot flashes. (I write this realizing that so far I have it easy, so who am I to judge... Then again, that does seem to be because I went wfpb a few years ago. 49, still having my period, without pain or hot flashes)
Simon, could you point out anything that specifically addresses osteoporosis prevention? I have not heard one of your speaker talking about dosing specifically for this and how to make sure, via testing or other modalities, you are indeed absorbing enough estrogen for this purpose. I am 56, I had a few months of perimemopause symptoms as I still get irregular periods. However, I am in the class of " skinny women" with both family history of osteoporosis and I have been already diagnosed with osteopenia. So I started HRT 9 months ago . I insisted that I get tested 3 months later. My estrogen was 11 so likely I was not absorbing it. So why there is such insistence of not testing? I can't imagine that big Pharma studied these hormones without testing blood levels for absorption and efficacy and get FDA approval.
The best thing you can do for your bones is lift weights, vitamin d and optimum protein intake. You can’t reverse osteoporosis but you can halt it. Blood tests for estradiol levels are extremely unreliable especially in perimenopause due to constant fluctuations. For example, I was told I was a poor absorber and had my trans dermal estrogen upped to 275mg. This resulted in hyperplasia and me undergoing investigation for uterine cancer, twice! I even had the Mirena fitted.
@@TheProofWithSimonHill Simon I bet this person is referring to Jen Gunter, who upsets a lot of people. (Im not one of those people). I am wondering why we are still insisting that menopausal women need a daily amount of protein that’s physically difficult to get. Most of the sane people agree that anyone eating enough overall calories to meet their energy needs is inherently getting enough protein (with rare exceptions for people with zero dietary diversity).
The woman’s body stores the abdominal fat on purpose at that age, because that’s where the body stores the oestrogen reserve when it’s no longer being produced from the usual supply
I’m 49, still on my period as well. I started BHRT , including low dosage of testosterone because I’m Asian, don’t want bone loss. I lift 3 x a week, spin classes and yoga. I take cyclical HRT. Never have symptoms so it’s for prevention.
Off course go on hormons… it helps more than beeing without. Women in my fam and friends been on them for 30 years. No problem exept from bigger breasts. It save you from many more dangerous things.
Not sure what you’re noticing there. I was listening and repeated what I heard to clarify the point my guest was making. Takes a lot of close listening to have 2-4 hour conversations based on science.
Not taking HRT for dementia prevention is interesting. If you endure chronic poor sleep, that's a concern where dementia is concerned. So if you restore sleep to women, is that not an indirect benefit for cognitive health? Also, I'd love more studies for women taking HRT who are very fit. I consider myself a middle aged athlete.
I started HRT for 5 months. Im 58 . My menopause went away. And felling good for bones . Estradiol 0.5mg ,2 times a week. Progesterone 200mg. Oral at time to bed . Blood test (lab)last month. (Estrogen, Progesterone, testosterone) my dr said . My testosterone highted a bit . But she was not say how much high. Keep going everything is fine . Just said 6 months later come back to test liver . My question is : can i ask my dr reduce dose Progesterone 200mg to 100mg ? Thank you so much
@@joanneclark8256On HRT all three hormones get balanced. My progesterone was zero; I'm 58 and have all the parts. I started at 100mg of oral compounded progesterone and pellets for E and T. All of a sudden, I'm sleeping and dreaming again. It's great! And I'm not aching while sleeping. I'd convinced myself that maybe I only needed to sleep every other night. Need that Progesterone for calming and sleep.
So the fact that obesity is associated with breast cancer does not mean it is the root causative factor. It is quite possible or likely even that another root is causing both these events. For instance hormonal imbalance or insufficiency involving among other patterns metabolic disorders with insulin resistance...high cortisol...etc etc etc.
We need to know Dosages Maximum we can take of Estradiol, maximum of testosteron , because doctors are Not giving the right dosage!! And No body talks about average normal Dosage!!😞
Great talk. I suggest medical doctors should stop referring to hot flashes as acute, when in fact they can often be a chronic issue, lasting for decades.
So my question is I went through I think I'm very long pretty menopause with that I do have Hashimoto's so all I remember is that I got hot flashes. Cuz having Hashimoto's but thyroid conditions that go up and down I just asked your Moto's you got a menopausal state your whole life.. lol But, I also developed BC In 2019? and it was ER PR early stage but spread to lymph nodes. But, my bones have felt so real and always body aches I worked a hard jobs FedEx drove so heavy lift a little bit which was probably the best thing I could have ever done however now 60 and when I had the surgery for the breast cancer was in 2020 would it be possible that I could do the HRT for my bones now it's 60 after the breast cancer because a lot of doctors won't even think about it they don't even want to hear it but my bones are aching and I've had 36 yrs of thyroid asthma all the medications cause bone loss and then I think I experienced perimenopause for a long time at least 10 years then boom just had my last period at 49 so when your brings me to 50 or actually 6 months probably the 50 years of age so how can I go about getting hormone replacement therapy with estrogen if my doctors won't even talk about it.
The way that some of these women present the information concerns me. There was some contradictory information about efficacy. To be honest it sounds like Dr Gunter has in a way been brain washed by BP.
Menopause has been sheer hell for me, adult ADHT.... that is adrenal fatigue, its real, another 10 year's and you will know about it, I was told i have 6-12 months of HRT and then have to suck it up??? Don't know why my hubby got lifelong supply of testosterone and Viagra, his symptoms were lethargy, low sex drive, and not lasting as well....well this is what pill women need to swallow, we are 50% of the population and deserve a better deal!! There is a lot more shit going on here... a whole lot more than just a happy sex life...😡🤬😡

Just as an end note had estrogen dominance, and a hysterectomy as a result, we need better health care, as a result of my investigation, I could have prevented what happened to me, sadly this is what I learned as an afterthought..... gross incompetence of the medical profession, if I know, they should know more, a whole lot more of preventive medicine, sadly this is not the reality, this makes me mad 😡
What hormonal status is DCIS Casey I had invasive and dcis papillary crib form with radial scars and a 1 mm focus of IDC. So, my question is can someone with a her 2 take HRT ? I was borderline and never onco tested they tested wrong specimen. But IDC I believe was ER POS PR POS. But I'm thinking if it's estrogen related you know I still have my ovaries I never had a child. I could understand the concern we're giving hormone replacement therapy of estrogen because the estrogen causes breast cancer but so does the endocrine dysfunction of the external chemicals in the plastics and everything else, so I guess we'll never know if it was the organic estrogen or the external volatile that causes the erp are Cancers of the breast? But big I'm almost 1 2 3 years next year will be 4 years I will be I believe in remission after 5 years I think they say you're in a remission actually would this be not a good idea for me to take hormone replacement therapy I know for sure my estrogen dropped because one thing about I didn't know what the cancer but my hair was so beautiful because I guess I had a little overload investigate I don't know but the day it dropped I always thought it was like Hashimoto's but today by estrogen drop so did my hair it looked like crap again but the surgeon I guess of the estrogen my hair was beautiful thick and I never had thick hair before my life LOL. But I could see the boat my bones I can't even use my thumb my knees I mean I had a rough job for many years jumping off this shipping docks motorcycle accidents I mean but now I'm paying for it I guess but I don't feel I'm paying for it that way I feel like I'm that my bones is so weak and no energy. But I was post menopause for 5 yrs before my cancer was detected but Brian mammograms indicated dense breasts only and I didn't find that out until 2019 for my second mammogram

The medical community needs to be immunized against politely correctness. If they are to serve their patients they need to weigh them, take their blood pressure and talk about BMI, obesity, fat and health. Anyone who has improved their lives in any way has first had to acknowledge and name their issues. I am currently obese at the top of stage one, which is better than the bottom of stage three that I used to be. I had to face my fat before I could start to eliminate it from my body. Political correctness might be loud, but it is a cancer on society. Sanity must prevail, especially in the medical system.

I’ve just started hrt at the tender age of 60 after years of suffering and not knowing any of this! I wish I had known 10 years ago after struggling with work and life. unfortunately my GP knows nothing about menopause, I wasn’t even offered it by my gynaecologist. It’s actually quite disgusting that women have been neglected by the medical system to the extent that doctors barely study menopause at medical school. It’s crazy when women make up half the population!
You're absolutely right however if you notice that the more men that are physicians that started podcast or having women physicians and their research and explaining to them doctors like Dr Peter ativia Andrew huberman and I forgot Sarah something I forgot a last name they were very interested in they listened to to prove to the world that yes it's a was a terrible inequity to our health menopause. But like you can't get a physician to spend more than 6 mins and when I ask a question about my hormones and hashimoto's they literally say nothing, only ok I have other patients. This is so degrading to dismiss me anytime I have a question about my bc cancer, thyroid nodules, thyroid labs my comorbidities. I'm so done with their terminating me saying they couldn't satisfy my demand.
One oncologist lied and said he could no longer be my oncologist because after the chemotherapy I would not takel the AI therapy anastrozole .

I just went to the doctor today, Jan. 31, 2024, and told the nurse that I was going to start it even if it was bad for me. I have been suffering for almost 8 years this spring. I infuriates me that I have suffered so long after asking over and over. This taboo topic needs to end. I talk about it every time I can.
My GD sent me to the gyn, and she didn't say squat either. No explanation whatsoever. She did put an IUD but didn't tell me why. I plan on staying on it for the rest of my life. I just turned 59.

She talked about using the patch under the waist. There is another doctor that is so sick of the dismissal of women on menopause that she started seeing women via zoom.

Please consider having on some doctors who think quite the opposite of what Dr. Gunter says. Doctors like Dr. Louise Newson from the UK, Dr. Mary Claire Haver from Texas and Dr. Avrum Bluming, an oncologist who has helped hundreds of women in the past twenty plus years. He wrote the book Estrogen Matters. It would be nice to hear the other side as well.

Agree! We need updated info and not being talked down to. Women are suffering! We have 1/3 of our life to live and we deserve a good quality of life and want to PREVENT heart disease which is the #1 killer of women in which is directly affected by losing estrogen, as well as decreasing risk of Alzheimer’s and osteoporosis. It’s not just symptom management and it’s not just lowest dose for shortest period of time either. I didn’t need antidepressants I needed estrogen! Once I got the hormones needed (not compounded) everything turned around.

Do whatever it takes to find the right practitioner if you have to pay out of pocket. It will save your life. I know I’ve been there and at 59 am just now getting help I need. But I’ve lost a lot of time and it shortened my life I’m sure of that. The medical profession has failed all of us everywhere.

I just started HRT 2 days ago. I'm 46, thought I had been going crazy for the past 10 years. Within 4 hours of using my patch. I feel like alive again. I've had a dark blanket over me for the past 8 years had all kinds of tests and everything came back perfect. Some to a women doctor on Friday just gone (Sunday today) and within 10 mins she said all that you have spoke about is classic Perry. I didn't have hot sweets or the normal things that everyone talks about. I have had anxfor the past 8 years, I have had Agoraphobia, depression, then, low moods. Awake at night and up in the day or having 100 naps a day and still feeling tired.
I now after a few days have been to the shops up early, to be early waking up feeling amazing. I'm so excited x Girls go get a patch HRT patch has done more to me in a weekend, I recommend them

We've known this for over 20 years, but the HRT specialists don't know the brain research. You must get high doses to handle mental health and food drives. Energy depends on both estradiol and testosterone. So, you need all 3 for the brain! Estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. Get it any way you can. YT "Create A Menopause Recovery". I coach women on all aspects of menopause health. We have brain fog solutions, but it is a process.

Simon, this 57 yo postmenopausal woman is deeply grateful that you apply your thoughtful and in-depth interview style drilling into questions for women and both those with limited time and adequate time (not just here in this episode but in others) and using the concept of different avatars/profiles with different needs. I plan to listen to this again for sure (having just completed it). Have gained so much from listening to your podcast over the last couple of years (as well as reading your book) and have made changes large and small including a daily drink of fortified soymilk, adding ferments regularly, picking up a regular resistance training habit and hitting that hard while adjusting my pre-existing running habit to include a great deal more time in zone 2. I've followed Joel Fuhrman's eating plan (another guest) for the last 2-3 years and between the two of you (very complementary actually - in practice his diet recommendations line up quite well with yours and he is even talking more about protein these days especially for the older set) I am healthier now than I ever was. Thank you and please keep them coming.

Its a relief knowing for those of us that cant take bhrt have other alternatives..ive been weight training for over 25 years and have been in menopause for 10yrs and it helped tremendously, now i need to bump up my wright even more. Still struggle with sleep but working on it. Just bought her book!

Progesterone has beneficial effects on the body beyond protecting the uterus. Its a muscle relaxant, a sedative...and has other as yet unstudied larger effects. For instance that menopausal anxiety is often addressed or reduced via progesterone. Not to mention the ability to sleep....
I wish I had that reaction - I had the opposite. I went on micronized Progesterone and it made my blood pressure raise and brought on PMDD symptoms. It felt like my heart was hurting. I guess I'm one of the few who have Progesterone intolerance. My doctor won't let me try alternatives - maybe due to the risks of the synthetic version?? I've been on the pill, and I don't recall having any issues during that time.

Still listening to this… I’m post menopause by 2years (I’m 51yrs) and didn’t suffer any hot flushes, sweating or disturbed sleep.
What I have gone through is weight gain and foggy brain. No matter how much I train with weights, resistance & hiking (which I do most days), no weight loss is happening. It’s like my metabolism has completely stopped.
I eat very clean & nutrient dense but no matter how much I tried, the calorie in, calorie out, certainly does not work post menopause!
This is very deflating and I’m going to try body identical hormones.
Got my hormones tested (privately as dr wasn’t interested) and they were extremely low (all 3 of them)…
You might want to Google or search TH-cam for information on losing weight + woman + menopause. As I recall, the harder a peri menopausal or post menopausal woman trains, the more her metabolism shut down.

I don’t train too crazy either but I still like to train as makes me feel good and my bones strong. I don’t lift really heavy and only do 30 mins hike most days. Hormones were the answer for me….

She really hates alternative practitioners but in my experience I’ve gotten way further with alt med than standard med. And I’ve never been harmed. It’s interesting in this day and age she feels so free to attack alt med when so many of us use it.
She doesn’t look like an empathic person at all. She is a scary narrow vision doctor even though she seems to be promoting better treatment than conventional treatments.
I ONLY got help and taken seriously by a naturopath who never tried to push anything, just suggested the option of HRT to see if it helped. I was so reluctant but I'm glad I decided to try it, been a game changer. I take oral progesterone at night and I fall asleep so quickly now, and once a day apply a cream made by a compound pharmacy of testosterone and estrogen.
I should add that I've had two primary care docs or PAs who knew nothing about HRT, or warned me of it, causing fear, and told me meanly "you can't turn back time." I cried, feeling humiliated. Glad I found alternative medicine.

They unnecessarily took my uterus AND only left me with one half of an ovary claiming it was “functional” without testing my blood once. I fell off a cliff in every way imaginable and suffered terribly as a result for 15 years. Am angry and am damaged.
Every channel I watch, the interviewer asks questions regarding weight gain problems and how to deal with it. They never discuss issues regarding people who NEED to gain weight, gain muscle and who might have difficulty doing so.
Once again, I'd like to recommend to please remember to always address both spectrums.
Not everyone is overweight. Some people are underweight. I realize many people are overweight.
But, I'm underweight, 54, post menopause, in remission from chronic Lyme, etc. I eat super clean and healthy.
I see many underweight people even though most are overweight.

Just saw an interview with Eydie Desser, she is really excited aboard being plant based and improved her symptoms of blood pressure and eye sight.
Here in US seems like more like a ten year peri-menopause phase. The average age of menopause in the US (Which is considered to be one year after last menstruation cycle) is 52. Most women start seeing hormonal decline symptoms (the most obvious one being skin laxity /wrinkles/thinning/ lack of collagen around the early 40's.

I had to have a complete hysterectomy in 2021, sus 36 cm ovarian cyst, plus a whole ton of smaller cysts. So surgical menopause... I was 36. Dr. Gunter's book was so helpful.

My mother suffered so much after her surgical induced menopause, eventually she quit trying at the age of 58 years old. I am not saying any one condition is at fault. Whatever was going on with her was undiagnosed. Considering that we all have a mother, we should be kinder to women. Especially in older age. More research needs to be conducted on women’s health. We deserve better healthcare.

Lots of opinions and handled differently on many channels, as someone who has never taken HRT but went through earlier than some later than others, we are all unique and therefore no one persons symptoms will be the same. Helped the flushes by sleeping with a pet cooling blanket, never been identified as obese, but know others struggle with weight and hair loss, so many symptoms. Help brain fog by playing games, and working on my memory. Won't use medication due to their effects. Great to hear a man who is happy to discuss the Menopause. It would appear different countries have varying opinions also. Thanks for posting. Hope anyone suffering gets the support and aid that they need. Please professionals don't dismiss alternative therapies off the cuff, that is in fact ignorance. I haven't changed my diet, regime to maintain weight I just don't over eat and walk a dog, but maybe I'm lucky.

I am 69 years old and a retired physical therapist . It is very common for both men and women to gain weight in middle age . We all slowly lose muscle mass decade by decade starting at age thirty .Losing muscle mass does lower metabolic rate - you simply use less glucose when your muscle mass has dimi ished. My understanding is that losing Estrogen does lower metabolic rate. I suggest listening to Robert Lustig MD who has multiple podcasts describing how ultraprocessed food contributes to weight gain because of the added sugars-. Excessive sugar is added to o processed foods because for many people these foods are addictive. They can't help coming back for more. This is especially difficult to overcome it f you are middle aged or older. Liquid sugar in sodas or fruit juice are especially egregious- drop these
immediately if you need to lose weight. See Dr.Lustigs talks for s detailed explanation.

I'm 39 and have been experiencing perimenopause symptoms since the age of 36 after I received the covid vaccine. Coincidence Or correlation?
I have the same issue. My periods were every 25 days like clockwork, maybe every now and then a day late or early.
12 hours after getting the vax I had horrendous cramps which lasted a week despite not being due for 14 days. That was mid ‘21. At the end of ‘21 I had a smear and mentioned to the nurse who arranged an ultrasound (it picked up cysts on my ovaries, after many other tests I found out I have endometriosis which is a whole other story). For a year after the vax my cycle was erratic. Since around the end of ‘22 I started having hot flashes, anxiety, loss of libido, and joint pain.
Had my hormones checked in October ‘23 which confirmed I’m in the menopausal range and my ovarian reserve is poor for my age. My last period was 196 days ago.
Everyone told me that the vax couldn’t have done anything, but I was perfectly fine before it. It’s a clear watershed in my menstrual life. I don’t know what it did, but I’ve never been right after it. This is a stage I didn’t think I’d reach until I was in my 50s, not when I’d just reached my 40s.

This was incredibly informative! I've been on HRT for two years and hitting the gym for seven, yet I learned so many new things. I've always wanted my endocrinologist to measure my hormone levels during HRT - it just seemed like a logical step. Without that, how do we ensure I'm getting enough of the replacement? I was a bit confused by her explanation before, but now it makes complete sense

It has been HELL for me, I get these pain with ectopic heartbeats that really hurt and scare me soooo much. Migraines, diziness, vertigo etc. I don't care about the hot flashes.Its awful but noone talks about that sympthom 😢

Overall great information. I really appreciate the guest's attention to scientific detail. I do disagree with movement of fat to visceral belly fat is an age related issue. What about the drop in estradiol, then body uses estrone which exists in fat. My body at age 38 just changed. No difference in diet or lifestyle, I'm clear on that. Thankfully I'm on HRT at age 42, and I've noticed notable changes in my body just with the hormone therapy. I have not changed my diet or lifestyle.
I like the comparison between hrt and medication for erectile disfunction. Because it goes two ways: yes, treat it with medication if you have to, but lifestyle medicine might just work equally well and go to the root cause. And yes, women, like men, get to choose which route to take. What I don't like about this episode is that it doesn't give the 'try out whole foods plants based route first' advise. After all, that prevents loads of stuff, aside from hot flashes. (I write this realizing that so far I have it easy, so who am I to judge... Then again, that does seem to be because I went wfpb a few years ago. 49, still having my period, without pain or hot flashes)
Simon, could you point out anything that specifically addresses osteoporosis prevention? I have not heard one of your speaker talking about dosing specifically for this and how to make sure, via testing or other modalities, you are indeed absorbing enough estrogen for this purpose. I am 56, I had a few months of perimemopause symptoms as I still get irregular periods. However, I am in the class of " skinny women" with both family history of osteoporosis and I have been already diagnosed with osteopenia. So I started HRT 9 months ago . I insisted that I get tested 3 months later. My estrogen was 11 so likely I was not absorbing it. So why there is such insistence of not testing? I can't imagine that big Pharma studied these hormones without testing blood levels for absorption and efficacy and get FDA approval.
The best thing you can do for your bones is lift weights, vitamin d and optimum protein intake. You can’t reverse osteoporosis but you can halt it. Blood tests for estradiol levels are extremely unreliable especially in perimenopause due to constant fluctuations. For example, I was told I was a poor absorber and had my trans dermal estrogen upped to 275mg. This resulted in hyperplasia and me undergoing investigation for uterine cancer, twice! I even had the Mirena fitted.
I have to agree with some of the comments about that dr . He needs to interview other doctors. I myself wasn't too fond of her.

I am wondering why we are still insisting that menopausal women need a daily amount of protein that’s physically difficult to get. Most of the sane people agree that anyone eating enough overall calories to meet their energy needs is inherently getting enough protein (with rare exceptions for people with zero dietary diversity).
The woman’s body stores the abdominal fat on purpose at that age, because that’s where the body stores the oestrogen reserve when it’s no longer being produced from the usual supply

I’m 49, still on my period as well. I started BHRT , including low dosage of testosterone because I’m Asian, don’t want bone loss. I lift 3 x a week, spin classes and yoga.
I take cyclical HRT.
Never have symptoms so it’s for prevention.

Not taking HRT for dementia prevention is interesting. If you endure chronic poor sleep, that's a concern where dementia is concerned. So if you restore sleep to women, is that not an indirect benefit for cognitive health? Also, I'd love more studies for women taking HRT who are very fit. I consider myself a middle aged athlete.
I started HRT for 5 months. Im 58 . My menopause went away. And felling good for bones . Estradiol 0.5mg ,2 times a week. Progesterone 200mg. Oral at time to bed . Blood test (lab)last month. (Estrogen, Progesterone, testosterone) my dr said . My testosterone highted a bit . But she was not say how much high. Keep going everything is fine . Just said 6 months later come back to test liver . My question is : can i ask my dr reduce dose Progesterone 200mg to 100mg ?

@@joanneclark8256On HRT all three hormones get balanced. My progesterone was zero; I'm 58 and have all the parts. I started at 100mg of oral compounded progesterone and pellets for E and T. All of a sudden, I'm sleeping and dreaming again. It's great! And I'm not aching while sleeping. I'd convinced myself that maybe I only needed to sleep every other night. Need that Progesterone for calming and sleep.
So the fact that obesity is associated with breast cancer does not mean it is the root causative factor. It is quite possible or likely even that another root is causing both these events. For instance hormonal imbalance or insufficiency involving among other patterns metabolic disorders with insulin resistance...high cortisol...etc etc etc.

Great talk. I suggest medical doctors should stop referring to hot flashes as acute, when in fact they can often be a chronic issue, lasting for decades.
So my question is I went through I think I'm very long pretty menopause with that I do have Hashimoto's so all I remember is that I got hot flashes. Cuz having Hashimoto's but thyroid conditions that go up and down I just asked your Moto's you got a menopausal state your whole life.. lol
But, I also developed BC In 2019? and it was ER PR early stage but spread to lymph nodes. But, my bones have felt so real and always body aches I worked a hard jobs FedEx drove so heavy lift a little bit which was probably the best thing I could have ever done however now 60 and when I had the surgery for the breast cancer was in 2020 would it be possible that I could do the HRT for my bones now it's 60 after the breast cancer because a lot of doctors won't even think about it they don't even want to hear it but my bones are aching and I've had 36 yrs of thyroid asthma all the medications cause bone loss and then I think I experienced perimenopause for a long time at least 10 years then boom just had my last period at 49 so when your brings me to 50 or actually 6 months probably the 50 years of age so how can I go about getting hormone replacement therapy with estrogen if my doctors won't even talk about it.

Menopause has been sheer hell for me, adult ADHT.... that is adrenal fatigue, its real, another 10 year's and you will know about it, I was told i have 6-12 months of HRT and then have to suck it up??? Don't know why my hubby got lifelong supply of testosterone and Viagra, his symptoms were lethargy, low sex drive, and not lasting as well....well this is what pill women need to swallow, we are 50% of the population and deserve a better deal!! The medical community needs to be immunized against politely correctness. If they are to serve their patients they need to weigh them, take their blood pressure and talk about BMI, obesity, fat and health. Anyone who has improved their lives in any way has first had to acknowledge and name their issues. I am currently obese at the top of stage one, which is better than the bottom of stage three that I used to be. I had to face my fat before I could start to eliminate it from my body. Political correctness might be loud, but it is a cancer on society. Sanity must prevail, especially in the medical system.
