I wish David wouldn't have died honestly. Each makes good music but only together does this masterpiece attain life. Gary's tunes feel almost as if they are trying to tell a story while David's are setting up a crazy beat for them. So i kinda wish they would have stayed together to make sick new songs on their planet.

There are great analysis around the nature of this song in the comment section, I´ll try to do my humble take. It looks like David is using a symmetrical harmonical pattern with little variation, while Gary rather than distorting the original melody, channels the idea and harmonizes with David´s motif, taking the composition to a higher and richer expression. I´m not a synth expert but also sounds like Gary has wider take on polyphony too, probably the reason why David talks about an impossible chord when both motifs have been arranged together.
They both harmonise surprisingly well, each is also very nicely put together. (They’re just made with differing composition philosophies in mind.) So I can’t really say one was objectively better than the other.
It's not a children's cartoon, it's for at least one person 12 years old and up. because it has many scenes with double meaning! however, I agree. It's one of the best cartoons ever made.
