Hans Zimmer - Interstellar - Main Theme
Piano Version by Patrik Pietschmann
Hi, my name is Patrik Pietschmann, I'm a keyboard player, arranger and hobby programmer from Germany. Since I am a huge fan of Hans Zimmer, I did an arrangement of his Main Theme from the "Interstellar" soundtrack. In this video I have tried to combine my live piano playing with the visualization of the music material by programming my own "Synthesia"-like software.

Did you know that Hans Zimmer wrote this piece after reading only one page of the script, where Cooper says goodbye to Murph? He didn’t know the genre or the story anything. He just made something incredibly heartfelt about a promise from a father to his daughter, and in that he managed to capture so much more.
After showing this to Christopher Nolan his response was “well I better go make the movie then”
I just recently found this out myself. ….SMH….INCREDIBLE!!!! Or maybe better said….EUREKA!!!!!
It was actually a hypothesized son, not a daughter. Zimmer wrote the original score thinking about his own son. He talks about it in the BTS on the original soundtrack.
In his masterclass series he said nolan said about a son and a daughter connection. Hans thought about his son when he wrote the original melody
I recently came across that story. Just goes to show how monumentally talented Zimmer is. Once in a generational talent.
I will never get tired of saying that Interstellar is a masterpiece
Eu queria poder esquecer que eu assisti esse filme, só para poder experimentar a sensação de assistir como se fosse a primeira vez..

One of the all time greats
I had trouble following what is going on in this song the first couple of times I heard it. But I have since listened to maybe 20 different pianists over the past month and it gets more and more mesmerizing as I try to break it down. If you look at the sheet music, you would think it is easy to play. But just try playing it. Deceivingly complex. Maddeningly so. Basically 3 dominant notes repeating while 3 chords are weaved through and around them in a variety of arpeggios. Great song.
The faster you move in space, the slower you move in time..
Get reminded of it every time I hear this masterpiece.

It's 4:58 AM in the morning. Couldn't sleep. So, here's to a stranger talking about her life.
Interstellar has been a life changing movie for myself. I remember I watched it when I was 16, on my own in the cinema. I had no friends during my school years to friendly explain how amazing this movie was because they perceived me as a weirdo who want to watch and dedicate 3 hours 'confusing' movie.
The soundtrack--First Step by Hans Zimmer, has been one of many things I played on my phone until this very day. When I found this video, I couldn't stop playing this soundtrack on all of my music platforms for, I think, more than a year now since the pandemic started.
It's because of this video too that I decided to buy a piano exactly the same as yours a month ago to learn. Not for anyone, but for myself as a goal. I tried to merge my work schedule while learning this piece to always keep going with my life and days that feels like torture with my depression.
I am on the 3 out of 7 pages of your music sheet today. There are some spots that are still tough for someone who never touched a piano before, but I am very determined.
It's like, whenever I played this video on my earphone or my speaker, my mind is at ease.
It's just me, and the infinite time of darkness and space.
I played guitar all my teenage years, becoming an adult with this music makes me able to cope with my piano, at least for a while.
Thank you.
I will let you know when I am done learning this. It should be soon, hopefully.

Best version of this song ever. Beautiful clean piano sound with the sustain pedal
This song is so perfect for the theme of Interstellar because it gives you that feeling of no matter how hard you may want to do something there are some things that are just impossible to do. And instead of wasting your whole life trying to do this impossible task your time would be much more valuably spent with the ones you love. So many people miss the most important line in that movie and it's when Michael Caine admits that the plan was never going to work and that Earth cannot be saved no matter what we do. Even if we were as green as anyone could possibly be we'd still have to leave Earth. Earth was not meant to be saved. It's meant to be left. Sadly though, most people can't handle that reality and they very foolishly think it can be saved and by doing so waste their entire lives for something that can NEVER happen. I believe this is why in the movie the crew realize this and they try to find their loved ones once they realize the mission will never succeed and try to salvage what precious little time they have left. It's unbelievably depressing but something about it gives me a tiny shred of hope for some reason.
😴
To everyone who wants to learn this, do it. It really seems a lot harder than it is, you will find it hard at first (if you are new to piano) but just practice. at one point you will have it in your muscle memory, then you can start improving it more and more... its really not that hard. Only thing that still holds you back from learning this is you cuz you are lazy.
Hahaha thank you this actually really motivated me
I agree. I'm a novice myself and have only practiced this piece for a little bit yet, but I have analyzed the video and it doesn't look that difficult. The most difficult parts are the arpeggiated chords in both hands in opposite directions which might seem impossible at first, but it's really a matter of practicing a lot. After that the speed becomes the most difficult part, but that also is a matter of practice, as your speed will increase over time.
Im not lazy, I have bills lol
Well and that ai don’t have a piano 😂
All jokes aside tho, I would fucking love to learn this masterpiece

But the universe isn't endless...
Samuele Petullà and how do you know. How does anyone know 😂
Samuele Petullà "It wants to continue forever, just like the universe" I'm sure what he meant was that the universe is expanding and wants to keep expanding and continuing forever like the music is
This was a masterpiece! I love Hans Zimmer, he is so talented...
I just realised that the ending is just the right hand passages and left hand passages combined, and the music fits so perfectly to a realization of the magnitude. If you learn 3 parts of the song you can play all of it. Hans Zimmer and patrik are genuines of out time.
Absolutely love how the song starts off unassumingly simple and progressively gets more complex. Almost like a space mission that starts out smoothly but slowly starts to unravel and fall apart. Love it.
I would have thought of that
You know interstellar is basically just that?
@@aarettilillia1639 is interstellar a good movie? I know inception is good and it has same director and hans zimmer making the music
@@sandyellie2918 oh my friend... younknow how sad green mile from stephen king is? Basically 10× more(in a gold way), tho dont think it as sci-fi. It has a so f*ckimg good story, so emotional, it made me (14m) cry. I so recommend
@@aarettilillia1639 that’s literally why he said that
Seems alright to learn. Then comes 3:51...
play slowly and you will do fine ! patience.
wowm8comon I'm learning the main theme from The Last of Us. Just started the game, not in very much yet.
its not THAT hard
lol exactly what I thought haha
Dude, that was 1:03 for me.
Hans Zimmer is the most amazing artist I have listened to till date. From Spirit, to angels and demons, to da Vinci code to dark Phoenix to Interstellar. His music gets scribed on your brain.
A music of greatest peace❤love it. Thanks for playing🤗. Who else are listening this in 2023?
To any amateur who wants to learn this: *DO IT*
I've learned this in about 2 months, 3 months to play it smoothly, no piano experience, cant read sheets, about 2h every other day. The part at 2:39 might look scary at first, but after a day or 2 (about 6h total) you will get it into muscle memory and play it without needing to look at your left hand at all.
This is motivational to read. How did you start off exactly? Can you make a video of yourself playing it? I've been listening to this since it released and been dieing to learn
Did you learn it from this video or did you use a different tutorial?
@@NataliaAnnette From this video, just replaying parts. The grapgic of keys "falling" down helps a lot.
but the part 3:52 its like hellllllll still not able to play that perfectly in speed
@@sagarbag1473 Not really! You already learn it here 2:50 for right hand and the left hand is still the same :)
"Those aren't mountains. They are waves!"
one of my fav moments of the movie
Yeah those gigantic waves just rushing through
Absolute chills even to this moment
Ay ay ay
This made me tear up
Letting the tears flow
